Here's a link to the crowdfunding campaign for it, if you wanna help make uplifted owlbears a reality (I did)!

Once upon a time, I recommended that they bring back several Pathfinder monsters but with a Sci-Fi Twist:
Uplifted Owl Bears
Plastic Eating Monsters (Rust Monsters)
Imperial Aboliths (Who now rule over a vast empire)
Dimensional Companions (Blink dogs)
Machine Elves (Formerly Ice Elves)
Star Furies (Erinyes who now lay waste to entire planets)
Etc.
On the subject of pathfinder monsters being made playable, I'd personally like to see cyclopses, serpentfolk, and nephilim, off the top of my head.

Well, Jacob E. Blackmon is a good illustrator.

Jacob brought me this project where he illustrated AND wrote a whole Legacy bestiary book!
With mimics that can be soda machines and uplifted owlbears!
There's just over a week left on the crowdfinding campaign.

Sounds good. Although watch out for those mimics, Owen.
I have literally had vending machine mimics in my game for a year now.
Being intelligent they utilize comm units they have installed within to scan the local info-sphere for up-to-date advertisements, which Aid in making them more believable, they also usually don't eat random passerbys and simply order delivery from local eateries while working as a blue collar living vending machine that stays stocked by online transactions.I have had such fun with them they sell most of the magic drinks and low-level serums with warm R2E dispenser, age restricted intoxicants..

This is awesome, may I copy this idea for my own games?

Absolutely!

Skinwalkers/werecreatures sure. But I'm also confused as to why
a wolf-like humanoid covered in thick white fur, patched with blue, grey or black spots
Does not scratch the itch for humanoid wolves.

EltonJ wrote:Nope.I have to ask... what about the current dog-people isn't dog-people enough?
Simplicity itself, the Vlaka doesn't do them justice. There are humanoid wolves that live in the Constellation of Canis Major. They come in white, red, grey, or black fur. They are typically naked, wearing only a belt. They have visited Earth in the past, and are the inspiration for the Werewolf legends.

Which, I'm all for that.
But that isn't what EltonJ is describing. EltonJ is describing Vlaka without the blindness/deafness gimmick or pants and changing their location of origin while also adding on a weird bit about them inspiring werewolf myths in a setting where werewolves exist.
Discouting the part where they don't wear pants, if one wants to add rougarou into Starfinder I'm not going to argue with them. I think there's room for interesting exploration in including similar races.
Like, saw we put in catfolk/amurruns from Pathfinder, along side Pahtra, and also uplifted lions/tigers. A good writer could get some mileage out of exploring the different perspectives on the universe those different but superficially similar people have.

Just off the top?
Fetchlings.
Ganzi.
Amurrun. (I'd like to see the mutual annoyance from both them and the pahtra at getting constantly mistaken for one another. Seriously: that's like calling a human "some sort of warm-hued damai.")
Kitsune and rougarou. (See above, but replace "pahtra" with "vlaka.")
Skinwalkers.
Gathlains.
Vishkanyas.
And, of course, kobolds (and wyvarans).

Good news, we've got fetchlings. They're just called kayal now.

I still don't get the point of having multiple wolf-people, but to each their own I guess.
Well, again, I can't speak for EltonJ but to me if there's a reason to have more than one it is to use that perceived redundancy to explore the comparisons and contrasts between them from their perspective; how do two so blatantly similar races(to an outside observer) handle that outside perception, how do they see one another, how do they see themselves in relation to one another.
While I personally have no interest in playing an anthropomorphized animal race at all, I do think that, especially given the established existence of uplifted animals, there's room to explore here. I'm curious as to how an uplifted bull and a nuar differ from one another and would react to one another. I'm curious about how an uplifted wolf would differ from a vlaka or a rougarou.
Having said all that, the anthro-animal races don't hugely appeal to me outside that curiosity so I'm less interested in them becoming playable than I am, say, ganzi, caligni, cyclops or some playable variant of an aboleth or a neothelid or a chaos beast since the setting is weird enough to allow that kind of thing.

Are we talking about real world wolf aliens or pretend Starfinder wolf aliens? Or pretend Pathfinder wolf aliens?
Basically what are you talking about?

They are indeed and since that entire AP deals with the Shadow Plane, it's a fitting place for them. Also the art for the Kayal is effing tight.

I do think they should have found a way to work in the shackleborn/kyton-blooded tieflings as a pc race into the volume that dealt with the velstracs.
But aside from that, some quality entries in that AP. I remember there was an alien archive wishlist thread where I was going to suggest svartalfar as a playable race before I got my copy and there they were.

So here is a, by no means comprehensive list of monsters from the six main PF1e bestiaries I think might be viable for conversion into playable races for Starfinder.
My criteria was, couldn't already have playable stats, couldn't already be converted as an SF monster off the top of my head, couldn't a member of a larger family of outsiders(so there are some outsiders but no angels/devils/proteans), and I had a CR cut off of 8/9, as that's where dragonkin & svartalfar are at. I also tried to avoid including fey & undead as I feel over all they're too... specific, for lack of a better term. And I only included creatures with an int of 5/6 or higher, didn't want to just fill out the list with awakened animals & magical beasts or we'd be here forever.
Anyway,
1. Axiomites
2. Boggard
3. Bugbear
4. Buggane
5. Caulborn
6. Centaur
7. Chaos Beast
8. Charda
9. Chuul
10. Cloaker
11. Cyclops
12. Denizen of Leng
13. Derhii
14. Derro
15. Dire Corby
16. Dragonne
17. Drider
18. Duergar
19. Ettercap
20. Ettin
21. Firbolg
22. Flumph
23. Forlarren
24. Girtablilu
25. Gowrow
26. Horla
27. Iku-Turso
28. Jackalwere
29. Karkinoi
30. Kech
31. Lamia
32. Lammasu
33. Maftet
34. Manticore
35. Medusa
36. Minotaur
37. Morlock
38. Myceloid
39. Nephilim
40. Saguaroi
41. Serpentfolk
42. Seugathi
43. Shae
44. Shulsaga
45. Sinspawn
46. Sphinx
47. Tanuki
48. Thriae
49. Urdefhan
50. Uraeus
51. Veela
52. Vodyanoi
This is not necessarily an endorsement for any of these to be made into playable races, how much any of them would fit into the setting is certainly up for debate, an argument can certainly be made for redundancy in some cases, and a lot of them would need pruning down to get into a balanced, playable form.
Just throwing names out there for discussion.

1. Axiomites
I imagine we'll see them as we learn more about how planes work in Starfinder. It would be a fun playable race actually.
6. Centaur
I'm not sure how much fun that would be in Starfinder but there are already a lot of quadraces so why not?
12. Denizen of Leng
Dude, it would STUN ME if they aren't already basically running the planet Aucturn.
21. Firbolg
Maybe a bit too...I don't know naturey? Possibly a good race to include in material about the Green Faith or the Xenodruids.
22. Flumph
Somebody's gotta be out there saving the universe. I'm betting there's a big combine of good guys fighting the Old Ones or the Dominion of the Black. I bet they're out there somewhere and they'll get around to the Pact Worlds eventually.
41. Serpentfolk
That would be a fun kind of marauding bad guy race.
43. Shae
I think when we see more of the shadow plane, we'll see more of the Shae. A playable Shae would be fun.
51. Veela
Hmmm....I imagine we'll see them eventually.

Yeah firbolgs are one I definitely waffled on putting on there. Aside from being too nature-y they're also just basically big humans which kinda bores me. They aren't one I actively want so much as they just met the criteria.
Flumphs are one I actively want and think would be a great addition. If I were to narrow it down to my top ten it would probably be something like...
1. Nephilim
2. Cyclops
3. Flumph
4. Serpentfolk
5. Seugathi
6. Veela
7. Kech
8. Chaos Beast
9. Axiomite
10. Maftet
But I'm still waffling & wanna put girtablilu, manticore & dragonne on there somewhere.
