So a little back info I'm playing in a group that is playing Against The Aeon Throne Adventure path and In the 1st book i had a human Mystic (crusader connection)w/ Star Knight archetype, did him melee fighter sense the crusader connection gives adv. melee weapon prof. he died at the crashed ship on the colony planet. On the 2nd book I was playing an Apostae born half orc Solarian did Solar Weapon build with heavy armor prof. he was killed during the prison break in the 2nd adventure path we had just got Cedona and the 3 other prisoner that the npc on outpost zed wanted us to rescue for the info and help we got from them, that's when the shit hit the fan and we couldn't keep bluffing are way thru and causing some disorder by having the signal scrambler you can get from the 1st book block out the comm signals for 4 miles (except ours), then a long string of rolling nothing above 10 for attack rolls had my Half orc killed. the 3 other players have managed to survive with all 4 escaped prisoners and have made it to our ship. Now I'm stuck with having to make a 3rd character for book 3 and I'd like some suggestions, I've played in the past a human envoy, a SRO operative, then the 2 from ATAT the human mystic, and 1/2 orc Solarian so my only don't's are no classes i played and no humans, and probably a ranged combat focused.
Thanks If you read the post and Double Thanks if you have a suggestion.

If you want to play a ranged combatant that'll have loads to do in Book 3, I suggest an exocortex mechanic. Moreso than the first two books, Book 3 is pretty "dungeon delve"-y, but your mechanic's skills will still be put to good use.
As far as race goes: talk to your GM, but if this is a new character joining to party in Book 3, then (without going into spoilers) there's a chance for the party to meet your new PC pretty near to the start of the adventure. It opens up some neat roleplay opportunities (and maybe even opens up some gonzo Azlanti races?) as long as you and your GM are willing & able to do a bit of background prep.

I have a questions about shields questions the 1st is the ac benefit they give worth it? is having that extra ac on top what ever armor your using gonna be the thing that is saving your butt. If you use shields would a Soldier be the best class with their gear boost Unburdened Shield? Is the Shield block feat worth taking?,(is any of the feat that grant you ability X if you pay a Resolve) I've only played Dead Suns and now ATAT and in dead suns I played the human Envoy tell the last book and then he got killed and played the SRO operative and in ATAT I've said in the top post my luck I've had so for my experience it seems like resolve should be saved to spend on the 10 min rest to get your stamina back or to be spent on stabilizing and staying in the fight.

I had a thought maybe a Biohacker would be fun to try after my Solarian died part of the reason the other 3 party members survived was stacking condition effects like shaken, so maybe a Biohacker that's good at that but I'd like to go Instinctive and take the Theorem Field dressing beyond that I've no clue what primary field of study I'd take or what feats.

So for the last Book I went with a Shobhad Soldier and stayed with the Melee focus, I originally gave him the Gear Boost Unburdened Shield from the Character Operations Manual pg.91, and wielded a Dragonglaive, Basic which gave my Shobhad a 15ft reach I soon came to realize that going shield was not the way i wanted to go (it took up needed bulk space for me) so i stopped using the shield for feats i took weapon focus Adv. Melee, Diehard, Close Combat, Through Lines, Stand Still, Cleave at 7th level which was the end of the adventurer my GM allowed me to rearrange feats and my gear boost be fore we start The Diaspora Strain book 1 from Signal of Screams Adventure Path, So I droped the Unburdened Shield and took Melee Striker and the 7th level gear boost is Nimble Juggernaut, My fighting style was and still is Blitz, and my feats are now weapon Focus Adv. Melee, Diehard, Standstill, Close Combat, Improved Combat Maneuver(Bull Rush & reposition), and the 7th level feat i took Tight Fit (I was having to squeeze alot in ATAT. Now that I'm looking at my feat I may drop close combat for Coordinated Shot, with reposition I can move the enemies around so that my allies could get the bonus for coordinated shot because I could move them to were I still threaten them but I don't grant the bad guy cover.

So as i said I'm starting Signal Screams Today and if you have read my other posts in this thread you know I don't have the best of luck with my characters so I've had the habit of having a few build ideas brewing in my head when I go to play for just in case this one if a powered armor user I'd like to go the new Powered Armor Jockey Archetype from the COM book i just don't know which class to start, there's the obvious choice of the Soldier probably Armor Storm fighting style, then there's the new Mechanic's option for Experimental Armor Prototype. I can kinda figure out if i went soldier route what I would do I'm wondering how good is the Experimental Armor Prototype for Mechanic? I was thinking if i did that route I'd take a heavy weapons proficiency with my feats or just a level dip into Soldier. Was thinking of a small race like Halfling, Gnome, Skittermander or even a Raxilite (I'd assume that the controls for a Raxilite's powered armor would either attach right to there LFAN (kinda like the Tsaheylu the Na'vi use with there mount in the Avatar movie) or sense they can wield a small arm with it just controls set up for a one armed person. So thoughts on Experimental Armor Prototype and how it stacks up and thoughts on Raxilite and how or if the could helm a Powered Armor. Again Thanks in advance if you post your thoughts and suggestions and for just reading my posts.
