Starfinder Society

I recently was able to play in my first online session of Starfinder, and it was a great experience. However, I am confused on how the reputation points work, and how my character retains currency/items from this introductory session. I'd like to begin adjusting my characters inventory as soon as possible.

That sounds like you're talking about Starfinder Society. The Organized Play forum would be a better place, since the way things work in Society is not the same way people would expect in a normal game.

So, for society games, you don't keep any kind of item picked up in the scenario. Anything you want to keep, you need to actually buy. The purpose of the items listed on the chronicle sheets is that you can buy them at an earlier level than they would normally be available. Occasionally chronicles also include items that don't exist in any other source. This is largely to avoid the situation of having a handful of strangers sit down at the table, and all want to keep the same item.

As for reputation points, you have two related currencies to look at: fame and reputation. Reputation increases your level with a faction at certain points, and unlocks boons and services that can be purchased with fame. For the details on this, and list of what's available in this way, you'll want to download the Starfinder Society Guide to Organized Play.
