Adepts and 0-level spells

Rules Questions

For bards, clerics, druids, sorcerers, and wizards, 0-level spells can be cast over and over without using up slots. I don't see that stated for the adept class though - they just have a "spells per day" entry for 0-level spells. Are they really supposed to work differently from all the other spellcasters?

Yep.

Sucks to be a nobody.

You can assume that their zero levels work just like everyone else's zero levels. I've never run NPC's to the extent where it mattered though.

'Orisons' is the name of a class feature that Clerics and Oracles have. 'Cantrips' is the name of a class feature that Wizards and Sorcerers have.

Adepts do Not have Orisons as a class feature, nor do paladins or rangers.

They're fricking NPC's for gods' sake. You're the DM, rule it as you see fit for your campaign. I have noticed however that there is nothing in the class text which seems to contradict the general expression of zero level spells found in every other class that has them. More than likely since they were just NPC classes, they did not put as much effort into writing these classes as opposed to ones that players would actually take.

Dark Archive

I've seen a Dev reply that the Adepts don't have the 'cantrips' class feature and cast cantrips just like 1st, 2nd, etc. spells.

I've also seen a reply from James Jacobs that Adepts can cast cantrips at will, because 'that's how cantrips work' in Pathfinder. (I had a link to that, but it no longer works, so perhaps that post has been retconned out of existence after the 'Paizo house in order' bloodbath of ought 12. Or perhaps I just failed my Craft: Link check way back then...).

So, basically, pick what works best for your games and setting assumptions. You can probably find evidence to support either stance, if you look hard enough.

Yes, but I'm writing something intended to be seen by others, so I'd like it to be rules-correct. If this were just for my own game, yeah, sure...

How would it make a difference in the specific thing you're writing?
