I don't get why people harp so much on "oh of course they are going to get un-dusted and fix everything, ah it SO takes out of the impact of them being dusted and all that happened"

But it doesn't. Not really.

If they rewind time it might, Hama. But otherwise if they just start just after the dusting...then yes.

Sovereign Court

Yeah, I still remember people being taken to the hospital after Infinity War.

I like both trailers...I just don't believe anything i see in them.

I don't agree that she would be in hiding and the others not aware of her. They were fighting JUST outside the city and would have returned there right after the battle. It would likely be Okoye, who saw T'Challa get dusted, who would have told Shuri, had she survived. And Okoye would have likely returned to the city alongside the remaining Avengers. So, they would know.

Offering someone exile isn't the same as letting someone stay in charge. One of M'Baku's main reasons for challenging the throne was he hates technology and didn't approve of a teenager effectively running the tech division.

So it's hard for me to imagine him being okay with her taking the throne. Respecting T'Challa doesn't translate as being cool with a teenager running your country

(Also, this effectively takes Wakanda's tech out of the picture for Endgame)

So the current buzz is that Endgame is going to be THREE HOURS LONG

Going to have to skip the soda on my first viewing, for the sake of my bladder...

The way I understand Wakandan ascension to work is the current King's heir is de facto the person to ascend to the throne, but can be challenged during their coronation ceremony. So Shuri by default would be made Queen, and M'Baku would have to challenge her. Perhaps you disagree (which is fine), but I see nothing in Shuri's nature that makes me think she would refuse her duty or back down from that challenge, IF M'Baku decided to challenge her, which given the chaos the world is in, he may think better of. He seems to have a good head on his shoulders and is honorable and I am not sure he would bring on more death when so many have already died.

If this IS the scenario, then it is likely not that she is in hiding from him, but that he killed her during the challenge. (And that's unlikely given how popular the character is.)

You pose a good thought that having M'Baku in charge reduces the capacity of Wakanda to produce a machina ex machina in Endgame, but so does Shuri being dusted. Just Shuri being gone dramatically reduces their capacity to produce scientific vibranium miracles.

If Shuri is indeed missing but not dusted, she could also be off looking for the heart shaped herb (a theory I've read elsewhere) since Killmonger destroyed the current crop (theoretically all of it, but I can't imagine they don't have seeds and cuttings somewhere)--so that whomever ascends has the power of the Black Panther, which would be a good thing to have in such dire times.

If the real issue is denying Wakandan technology to solve some of the post-snap problems--which I agree may be a good plot element--there's a lot of ways to accomplish that.

If Shuri hasn't been done in by Thanos's snap, my guess is she'd be working on restoring Vision without the infinity stone. They already laid the seed that she might be able to do so in the first part.

I am kind of wondering, if time travel is involved, if part of the solution for the mind stone won't just be secretly passing Shuri's advice onto Stark and co when they begin to download Jarvis into Vision, back in Age of Ultron. That would potentially accelerate the process in the future to allow the removal of the stone before Thanos shows up.

Hopefully that herb grew *somewhere* in Wakanda other than that one dark cave. :)

A forward-thinking king might have stashed HSH seeds in the Svalbard Global Seed Vault in Norway, most likely intentionally mislabeled as something less significant.

Here we Go! Big Official Trailer

.

And Official Poster

Liberty's Edge

Still doesn't show much and I'm 100% ok with that.

Must be pretty hard for the directors to put trailers together for something like this without spoiling anything.

Scarab Sages

My head-canon is totally shipping Captain Marvel and Thor.

This trailer looks great. So soon now.

One big spoilery reveal at the end.

I don't really think that's a spoiler since they were grouped up at the end of Infinity War so them traveling together is kinda a given.

Online fans are arguing whether that's Kate or his daughter or somehow both (i.e., that his daughter will play the role Kate does in the comics). I assume that is his family at the picnic in the background, so could be daughter that has gotten older (it's been a few years since AoU). Or maybe he takes her in as a protege, so she's with his family?

As for THAT, technically it's a spoiler that they don't spend the whole moving starving to death in space--but was anyone expecting that to happen?

As for the other thing I thought maybe someone was worrying was a spoiler--not it isn't that, it's the other thing. Check the long shot.

Grand Lodge

What's the long shot? Edit: Something about the sky line?

Too much showing off people I don't really care about and too little action.

I'll watch it, just to get it over with.

If you don't care about the OG avengers, you're in the wrong franchise.

You know ... man, dude ...

I'm not a big sports fan, I personally am not into basketball at all. I think I'm going to go find a basketball forum somewhere and then post how boring some popular player is, how much a team everyone else is enthusiastically talking about stinks, or maybe how I guess I'll watch some big game even though I hate both teams, you know ... just to get it over with.

Holy crap on a cracker dude ...

That's not what I was referring to, but this is getting more amusing to me as we go. :) I probably shouldn't ruin it, but to avoid further confusion:

Spoiler, in part, for the Captain Marvel movie, and in part for something different at the the end of the trailer that has nothing to do with Captain Marvel that isn't really a spoiler but someone might think it is:

Since thejeff mentioned a spoilery reveal at the "very end," I assume he was talking about the scene at the end of the trailer where Thor and Carol are interacting. I assumed he meant either one of two things:
1. If you haven't seen Captain Marvel yet (and not everyone goes on opening weekend), revealing indeed Captain Marvel is with the Avengers at the base spoils HER movie (the mid-credits sequence), but not technically Endgame.

2. Some folks have thought Thor was summoning Mjolnir in that scene and thought it was revealing the return of Mjolnir. But if you see when the camera pulls away (what I meant by the long shot), it's Stormbreaker.

Grand Lodge

I’ll check back this weekend after we see Captain Marvel. :)

To clarify my position:

I have generally enjoyed the Marvel movies - some have been less than good but most have been fun - but I'm feeling a little fatigued by them. They are very safe and by-the-numbers, and while that has worked well, it also gets old after a while and Marvel has been cranking these movies out like there's no tomorrow.
They have in general been quite entertaining, with some exceptions. The problem is the only ones I actually like are Cap and Tony (and Rhodey and Spidey, to a lesser extent) and by now I am OK with them being retired. I don't care about the other characters. Thor borders on likeable but that's all the actor and not the movies or character. The rest are mostly in a "they're OK, I guess" category with a few genuinely annoying ones, like the entire GotG cast and Scott.
What has made the movies fun is decent superhero action and braindead plots.
So a trailer that tries to make me want to see a movie by assuming an emotional connection to the characters I don't really care about doesn't work for me.

The Snap is obviously going to be undone somehow and I don't care about who most of the ones who 'died'. All I'm here for is the end of the story and hopefully some good flashy action that isn't yet another superhero slapfest.

After comparing them with the scenes from the Disney Shareholders meeting, I’m leaning to that being Hawkeye’s daughter before ‘the Snap.’

Could be both. Hawkeye's daughter could be the MCU's version of Kate Bishop.

I figured he was just teaching his wife how to shoot in a "where were you when it happened?" scene.

Liberty's Edge

That was not the actress that played his wife, and the girl firing the bow was a teenager! It’s definitely Hawkeyeteaching his daughter, Kate Bishop, or the combined MCU version of the two ...

Eh. I'm not sure I'm ready to lean into it being Kate Bishop visa vie Clint's Teenage daughter. Mostly because I want the REST of the Young Avengers to show up first.

Plus you know, Kang.

Liberty's Edge

That’s actually exactly what the rumors are saying.

No matter if that’s Kate Bishop and Hawkeye is mentoring her, of that’s his daughter and the MCU is going to merge the two characters in one way or another, the very reason for introducing her in this movie is BECAUSE Marvel is laying the groundwork for Young Avengers.

So...Kang then will show up? Because it kind of doesn't work for me without Kang. Or you know, Kid Loki.

Thomas Seitz wrote:

Perhaps more Classic baddies like Doom or High Evolutionary.

Meh. Doom is alright but I dunno we want to go down THAT road this early with FF and the rest. Kang has plenty of motivations as an Avengers villain without any need for FF stuff.

They also don't have to pull exactly from the comics. They have diverged--sometimes wildly--before. And, for the purposes of a cinematic universe, often for the better.

They could also be setting up a Kate Bishop-esque character perhaps for a Hawkeye(s) movie or Disney+ series inspired by the Matt Fraction series and/or Kelly Thompson recent Hawkeye (mainly Kate Bishop) book, which doesn't require wildly cosmic villains (although Madam Masque was recently and frequently a villain of theirs, and they used up Whitney Frost in Agent Carter... or did they....?). While Young Avengers of course may well be in the cards, there's all sorts of ways they might go about things (up to and including Kang or some variation on him... eventually). They have well demonstrated by now they are not going to be slavish to the comics.

But I don't know how they can cast a dark-haired teenage girl shooting arrows alongside Clint and NOT expect comic fans to think "Kate"--let alone throw it in a trailer--it would be really weird for that to be a fakeout. Not impossible. But weird. Still, it may just be a hint of things to come. Given ALL they have to accomplish in Endgame, I doubt we're going to see a whole lot of her, no matter who she is, so I wouldn't fret too much yet over where and how they're taking things.

I don't fret. I just thrash on my guitar while waiting for Thor and Beta Ray Bill to fight Frost Giants on Space Ships.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Starfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Whoever she is, I expect we'll get to see her turn to ash, and then, hopefully, get better.

Honestly, given how friggin' awful Marvel's recent trailers have been about giving away major emotional beats, that scene might be from the END of the movie...

Grand Lodge

Oh man, Captain Marvel was so 90s it hurts. But yeah, not really a spoiler there at the end of the trailer.

Liberty's Edge

According to Kevin Fiegie, the trailers for this movie are all only using footage from the first 20 minutes of the movie.

That.... bespeaks an absurd pace of getting the band back together.

But I'll take that over the trailers giving away literally everything.

Sovereign Court

With all we've seen, it's quite obvious he is lying. Just like they all are, like when Jackson said that Captain Marvel can travel through time and then admitted he lied.
