The forum post is a little ambiguous, it implies what number you use does not matter.
“Whichever strategy you choose, the playtest points you earn are cumulative to the campaign; you don't need to assign credit to the same character.”
So can I just assign all my credit, gm and player, all to the same character number? Even if they are for the same scenario? I see no point in making numbers if they won’t matter.
Yes. Tonya clarified in a follow-up post on that blog.
"Some people want to separate out their characters, with a different number for each. Some want one number where their character changes each time. It is up to the player how they want to look at it. In the end, the points credit to your Org Play number, not to a particular character, and the scenarios are marked repeatable so they will grant credit each time you play."
