I didn't see a GM prep thread for this yet, and it appears the Free RPG Day boxes have started shipping. I just got a copy from the game shop I'll be GMing for, so I'm assuming the folks with similar GM agreements might be able to pick up their copies too... That heads-up is primarily why I'm starting this thread.

My initial read is really positive! I'm even more eager to run it now. Here's to hoping the flavor textboxes with Skittermander slang get picked up by the players! Also, it's great to see a few time-saving options given for concluding the scenario; it'll make it a lot easier to keep in a guaranteed timeframe.

I'll get to read more into it tonight. My once-over didn't leave me with any questions... YET.

First question: As written in the adventure, can we create 2nd level Skittermanders for use with Skitter Shot, or can we only use the pregens?

Second page of the scenario reads:

Skitter Shot wrote:
Four pregenerated skittermanders can be found on pages 12-15 of this book, or players can create their own 2nd-level skittermanders using the Starfinder Core Rulebook and the playable racial traits found in the Starfinder Alien Archive.

That does lead me to wonder if it is allowable to run more than four players... I think 5 players would work fine, but 6+ might start to break encounters. Hmm...

True, I guess we we'll all just have to wait until those come out to know for sure. It still gives me a good excuse to roll some skittermanders up - at worst, it'll be an academic exercise lol

Sovereign Court 4/5 5/55/55/55/5 **** Venture-Agent, Georgia—Atlanta

Another question - can legal SFS Skittermanders (with boon) of greater than 2nd level play in this, and get credit applied to their characters, if they so desire?

Shadow Lodge 4/5 *** Venture-Captain, Michigan—Mt. Pleasant

Just remember that this wasn't written for SFS, it was written for Starfinder in general.

We'll just have to wait until the sanctioning document is released (usually a day or two before the event) or if Thirsty happens to jump in here and lets us know.

Shadow Lodge 4/5 *** Venture-Captain, Michigan—Mt. Pleasant

Has anyone done any prep documents with stats of the bad guys or gear/ability descriptions yet? I want to have some for Saturday, but don't know if I'll have time to do it myself as well as finish my ship build for it.

That is on my list of things to do. There should be a document up before Saturday.

My "understanding" (subject to change) is that the sanctioning document will be up on/around Tuesday. Nothing is set in stone, but I believe that's a working assumption internally.

That being said, I can confirm that the sanctioning document allows for players to bring a 1st or 2nd level Skittermander PC if they possess the legal boon to create such a character. Similarly, for tables greater than 4, we're making allowances to use duplicates from the other available skittermander pregens.

Squeeee! Assuming that my table on Free RPG Day makes, my 3rd nova will be earned running Skitter Shot!

Serious question; I'll be halfway through GM'ing AP1 during Free RPG Day.

The PC I'm applying the GM AP1 chronicle sheet to, can I apply the Skitter Shot chronicle sheet to him either as a player or GM?

Also, a new player with only one PC - since Skitter Shot is played with pregens can they apply the Skitter Shot chronicle sheet to the same PC? Or more specific, when a PC is "locked" in a multi-session game, can they play a pregen and apply credit to the same PC?

I couldn't find a clear answer in the Guild Guide.

Thurston Hillman wrote:

Can't wait to find out its a Skittermander race boon!

Everyone would lose their bloody minds, even if it has conditions that must be met akin to the Morlamaw Admittance boon. Which of course it would because otherwise society play would be overrun with manic 6-armed furry PCs all at once.

The Masked Ferret wrote:

Wow man, that's awesome!

I'd be at 40 credits now if the scenarios I ran at Gamestorm and PaizoCon were reported.

But 60 credits at this point, that's a really impressive accomplishment!

I think I've seen similar questions... I'm not 100% on this, but I believe the Skitter Shot chronicle is held until they receive the AP's chronicle. I could be wrong...

As per your first question, I'm not sure.

So I'm waiting on the PFS Prep forum to be created for Skitter Shot so I can upload it, but in the meantime, here are my GM notes for Skitter Shot.

Player Cheat Sheets will be coming later.

Very sweet, I'll definitely use this! I did notice the rules for poisons are not listed. That damage for just entering the radiation could be fun thematically.

One note though - the Nova Witch has a Speed of 8 per the scenario - your sheets have it listed as Speed 6.

Dammit. I like how I copy and pasted my starship action sheet from a previous scenario, and I managed to change all the references in that from speed 6 to speed 8, but I typed the nova witch stat block by hand and got the speed wrong there.

I'll fix it tonight.

I am little confused. When I look at your file (which is awesome, as always) I see an Orbital Battle and an Orbital Drone Platform. I don't see this in the adventure. Is it a holdover from a different adventure?

Ah, so I screwed up saving the .docx - that is now fixed and new versions are uploaded (which includes fixing the Nova Witch's speed)

(Pulling back the curtain a little bit - often times I copy and paste prep from other scenarios and just change small details to make things easier for me. In this case, I copied and modified my 1-03 prep for this scenario, and for some reason Word quit before it saved the final changes to get rid of the 1-03 encounter and update the starship cheat sheet for Skitter Shot.)

Called it!

As soon as I saw Thurston handing out Skittermander boons at PaizoCon, it was obvious that general availability was just around the corner. Plus the timing for the end of Alien Archive lined up well, combined with silence about a replacement.

Thanks Thurston, you made everyone's day :-)

For the folks that get/got the physical copy for Free RPG Day... Are we allowed to run Skitter Shot after Free RPG Day but before July 1st? I can't see why not, but I figured I'd check before asking for a couple of slots at a con I'm attending the weekend after FRPGD.

4/5 5/5 ***

Pretty sure that if you have it, you can run it. The availability delay is to encourage people to go to the physical stores to pick it up, rather than just download it right away.

1/5 5/55/55/55/5

Starfinder Superscriber

IDK, there's the "can I" and the "should I" for this.

Its a Free RPG Day scenario given to you for free by a store because you're volunteering to GM it as part of that day and you need to prepare.

If people start running it before Free RPG Day, they make start restricting how far in advance we can get copies or prohibit advance copies all together.

Shadow Lodge 4/5 *** Venture-Captain, Michigan—Mt. Pleasant

They didn't ask about running it before, just after. The answer in the past had always been yes. Once you own it from getting it at frpgd you can run it whenever you want.

Starfinder Superscriber

Oh, well of course you can run it after Free RPG Day!

I should have known better than to start working on one of my own...verily, you are the best! :)

One quick opinion question for you:

Because players might ask about it, do you think it would be worth adding the "six-armed" description to these? I'm honestly 50/50 on this myself, since that ability doesn't really "do" anything, per se.

Thank you so much for putting these prep documents together!

Those aren't covered by the CUP yet. So you're violating their copyright by posting that. Personal use is one thing, posting it is another.

Where are they again? I looked in the Google folder you linked to and there's only the gm sheets there. And there's nothing but the ship sheets on the PFS prep site.

Whoops, didn't think about that. File no longer shared.

Shadow Lodge 4/5 5/55/55/55/5 ****

In part using the stats from Jen's prep document, I have created ship sheets for the Emerald Empyrean and Nova Witch and added them to the PFS Prep site.

In addition, seeing as both my roommate and I are semi-immobilized (crutches, etc.) and on painkillers to varying degrees, we had some fun and created audio files for M2's announcements/interactions, as well as a couple of other little things, in case you have a use for them in your games. These have also been uploaded to the PFS Prep site (same link as above).

I hope these help you plan and run your games!

Edit/Addition: I also just threw together (and uploaded to the same location) a one-page list of starship-combat-related skills that each Skittermander has, to potentially help when it comes time for your players to decide what roles to take for the Nova Witch encounter.

This is awesome!

I likely won't use the first one, there's a bit too much reverb to understand what its saying even without the background noise of running in a game store.

I love how the last one doesn't just slow down between words but lowers in pitch.

This is a silly oversight. I considered writing a Python script to take the pregen PDF as input, extract the images, and output the pawns PDF. Not enough time, maybe after Saturday.

In the meantime, my prep has included printing Welcome To boons and chronicle sheets with new member card #s already on them, 100% filled out, and stapling them to the new member cards along with peelable member # labels for putting on the signup sheets.

That way I just tell new players to leave the # blank, and when we're done pull out a stapled packet, put the label on the blank slot with their name on the signup list, and hand them the rest.

Any new member packets that don't get distributed I can remove the card for future use (the "Welcome To" boon and chronicle sheet has the date on it).

Hey all! I tried to sketch some Paper Minis for this. Not all of the ones I did on this page worked out, but this should help another GM print up some skitters quick. It’s my art, not Paizo’s. You can print it, cut it, then glue on to card stock. Fold them. If you secure the bottom with a paper clip, they’ll be able to stand up without blowing over.

I drew the Map of the Emerald Empyrean with a Skittermander close-up. I had to share it because it turned out cute!

Can someone explain how the sleeping gas/blue whinnis poison works? If the pc makes the initial save do they have to make more saves while in the gas. Also, how would you wake a pc who has gone unconscious front this gas?

Shadow Lodge 4/5 *** Venture-Captain, Michigan—Mt. Pleasant

From my research it looks like the only way to wake them is with remove affliction or something like it. If they stay in the gas then they should keep making saves since one save doesn't make them immune to it.

Did anyone else have PCs ask to cross the eddy into the shadow plane, thinking there might have been a creeper nest or something on the other side?

I ran three times yesterday, the last party was especially foolhardy but we had extra time and it had little effect on the game so I allowed it. I had the ship powered down on the other side so the doors wouldn't work, but the observatory dome open so they could the shadowy version of the galaxy through it.

I only gave them a round before the eddy started to distort so they'd flee back to their own plane.
