Cloudburst for Armor and Shields

Rules Questions

The Exchange

I am building some armor and wanted to find the solution before I commit to this.

Agile Breastplate +1: Mithral with Cloudburst
Heavy Shield +2: Adamantine with Cloudburst

I am struck with a plasma ray gun in Iron Gods wearing the above set. Plasma is half fire and half electric damage for a total of 40 points of damage.

My POV: 20 points of fire damage and 20 points of electric go through. Cloudburst shield stores 20 damage and Cloudburst breastplate stores 20 damage. On my next turn, I am able to use Shocking Grasp for 1D6 for every 10 points of electric damage dealt. This means I have two abilities to use as a swift action (each) for 2D6 each.

This means I could NOT use it all at once for 4D6 in a single swift action. Correct?

Well, I’d have to read Cloudburst to check the premise of both items being able to store the same 20 damage, but assuming that’s correct, since you only get one swift action per turn, you are correct.

Also, flagged for wrong forum. This is a Rule Question.

Cloudburst seems to come from the Advanced Race Guide.

Cloudburst:
This armor is usually decorated with engravings of storm clouds and lightning bolts. If an attack strikes the wearer and deals at least 10 points of electricity damage, the armor becomes visibly charged with electricity for 1 round. As a swift action on the wearer's next turn that does not provoke an attack of opportunity, she may use shocking grasp as a spell-like ability, dealing 1d6 points of electricity damage for every 10 points of damage dealt to the wearer since her last turn (maximum 5d6 for 50 or more points of electrical damage taken). Determine the effect of the shocking grasp based on how much damage the triggering electrical attack would have dealt the wearer before any applicable resistances or immunities.

It doesn't seem to be applicable to shields, but I'm still checking.

EDIT: Cloudburst is listed as an armor special ability, not a shield special ability (see the Oread's guarding shield special ability for an example of a shield special ability).

Ah, it didn't come up on a search because the application I use doesn't recognise it as an item ability... That's a problem with the app, though.

Anyway, it's definitely an armour ability, not a shield ability, and even then the fact that it requires a swift action to use and the charge only lasts one round will definitely prevent it being stacked with itself.
