Is it really enough though? You gain more spells each level, but can only trade one. With a natural progression, you're still likely to end up with several spells you don't really use anymore.

Funny you mention Jolting Surge, as I picked Overheat for my example because I didn't figure anyone would HAVE Jolting Surge to swap out in the first place.

It does 4d6 damage and can rip to shreds the boss of the first AP...
You have some very strange views on what does and doesn't work in Starfinder.
