You can do more with the weapons orcs favor the most.
Prerequisites: Base attack bonus +1, orc.
Benefit: When you take this feat, choose one of the benefits below. Whenever you wield a weapon that has "orc" in its name, you gain the benefit you chose so long as you are actually proficient with that weapon.
Bully: Gain a +1 bonus on damage rolls against creatures at least one size smaller than you.
Defender: Gain a +1 shield bonus to your AC (or +2 if wielding a two-handed weapon).
Disrupter: Add 3 to the DC of opponents’ concentration checks to cast a spell within your threatened area. This only applies if you are aware of the enemy’s location and are capable of taking an attack of opportunity. If you have already used all of your available attacks of opportunity for the round, this increase does not apply.
Killer: Gain a +2 competence bonus on attack rolls made to confirm critical hits.
Thug: Deal +1 point of nonlethal damage with the weapon.
Trickster: Gain a +2 bonus on a single type of combat maneuver check that you can perform with that weapon.
This feat has no effect if you are not proficient with the weapon you’re using.
Special: You can gain this feat multiple times. Each time you take this feat, you must choose a different benefit. You may only apply one of these benefits per round (chosen as a free action at the start of your turn).
I believe I read somewhere multiple time that you require 2 hands to use a bow regardless of it's size (plus that's common sense). So, for the purposes of Defender from this feat, does the Orc Hornbow give me +2 shield to AC for a 2 handed weapon?

Ranged weapons generally aren't 1 or 2 handed as those are melee/thrown designations. [guns are an exception]
Bows are weapons that "You need two hands to use", but that isn't the same thing as a two handed weapon. As such, it's a +1 shield bonus. For instance, a [two handed weapon fighter] fighter can't use overhand chop with a bow to deal x2 str damage with a bow.
All two handed weapons require 2 hands but not all weapons that require 2 hands are 2 handed weapons.

They probably mean melee weapons, since this feat is from the Advanced Race Guide, which came out WAY BEFORE the Adventurer's Armory 2, which has the Orc Hornbow, which is the first Orc-specific ranged weapon. So the Orc Hornbow would count as neither one unless you are using the Bowstaff spell (makes it work like a Staff, two-handed) or the Empty Quiver Style feat (makes it work like a Heavy Mace, one-handed).
The option of the feat that cares about whether you are wielding a one-handed or two-handed weapon (Defender) doesn't sound suitable for using a bow unless you are using one of the above options.
Probably needs an official Errata/FAQ.

I agree with this. ^_^

I'm not sure if that is correct, as a lot of ranged weapons specify whether or not they need one or two hands, such as slings and crossbows.
Seems like we're pulling a hard rule from nowhere in order to justify not giving him the bonus. FAQ'd
Yes they say they need two hands but they don't say they are two handed weapons. All birds have wings but not all winged animals are birds...
Also, crossbows/slings can be used to attack with only 1 hand.
"you can shoot, but not load, a light crossbow with one hand"
"you can shoot, but not load, a heavy crossbow with one hand"
"You can shoot, but not load, a hand crossbow with one hand"
"You can fire, but not load, a sling with one hand"
Also crossbows even note that they are treated as light or one handed weapons for TWF, which would be very odd for a weapon that was already a two handed weapon.

Similarly, the Disrupter effect can't apply, since ranged weapons don't threaten
. . . unless you have Snap Shot or something similar.

So the Orc Hornbow would count as neither one unless you are using the Bowstaff spell (makes it work like a Staff, two-handed) or the Empty Quiver Style feat (makes it work like a Heavy Mace, one-handed).
Neither staff or mace are orc weapons, so neither bowstaff or empty quiver would help with the feat. [you're treating it as a staff/mace INSTEAD of the horn bow]
The option of the feat that cares about whether you are wielding a one-handed or two-handed weapon (Defender) doesn't sound suitable for using a bow unless you are using one of the above options.
Slight correction: the feat using the defender option doesn't look for one handed status. All it does is allow a bigger shield bonus for two handed weapons. That means all other types of orc weapons [ranged, light, one handed, thrown, firearm, ect] still gain the +1.

Like they said above, it is a RANGED weapon--1 or 2 handed is dealing with MELEE only.
Most ranged weapons take 2 hands, but do not qualify as a 2 handed weapon.
Apparently I could be shooting my bows with my feet, since apparently I don't need hands at all! Thanks dude.
Seriously, if we were to really be so asinine with this feat as to restrict ranged weapons on the basis of them not falling into a weapon table category, then I have even more bad news. There isn't a 'two-handed weapon' or 'one-handed weapon' category, just 'two-handed melee weapon' and 'one-handed melee weapon' table. Sorry guys, this feat does nothing!
Honest to god, this is a stretch and a half. If it requires both of your hands to operate, then it is a two-handed weapon.
The feat is not asking for melee weapons, it's asking for weapons. Therefore it works with orc hornbow. End of story.

One/Two Handed Weapon are shorthand for One/Two Handed Melee Weapon. Ranged weapons don't fall into either of those categories, they are their own thing.

Except firearms fall into those categories. Unless they are a unique case, which I really don't think they are, they're a clear demonstration that even ranged weapons can be two-handed and one-handed. They just bothered to explain the separation. Their operation outside of being firearms and using firearm specific rules is basically the same other ranged weapons.
Look, I'd need to see an FAQ to really think otherwise on this, but as it stands separating them is kinda silly to me. Handedness is handedness, and muddying this further is not helping here.

Huh, I never noticed that about Firearms, interesting. That just muddies things even more then, since Firearms are separated, but all other Ranged weapons are just "Ranged Weapons".
Hmm, at this time I'd still go with Firearms setting up an exception, rather than the rule. I'm thinking it's possible they only set up those distinctions for the Pistol Whip Deed, but *shrugs*

Instead of saying muddles this further you should of said
" Well that just muddies the water even further"

So you allow overhand chop with bows? You allow inapropriate size rules with bows to allow one handed use for one size smaller? I mean it's "asinine" to not allow two weapon fighting with bows using overhand chops based on the bow "not falling into a weapon table category"...

I guess this sort of makes sense . . . those feats/spells could be interpreted as making the Orc Hornbow be no longer an Orc weapon, since they allow you to use it in ways in which it was not intended by Orc culture.
UnArcaneElection wrote:The option of the feat that cares about whether you are wielding a one-handed or two-handed weapon (Defender) doesn't sound suitable for using a bow unless you are using one of the above options.Slight correction: the feat using the defender option doesn't look for one handed status. So I guess if you found some option that lets you use the Orc Hornbow as a melee weapon without making it a non-Orc weapon, OR you found some option that lets you fire projectiles to give yourself a Shield Bonus (can't think of any examples of either one), then you could get a +1 Shield Bonus(*) from using an Orc Hornbow with Orc Weapon Expertise (Defender).
(*)+2 Shield Bonus if you find an option that lets you use it as a two-handed Orc weapon.
