War zone rules / mechanics


General Discussion


So I'm going into planning a civil war arc for my players and the pinnacle is going to be a gauntlet run through the warring city. The players would need to dismantle 3-4 Magical spires fueling the conflict and reach the central building I'm looking for ideas on how this would be run.

My thoughts so far:
Continual initiative
Random encounters: Enemies attack the party, allies can be saved to join the party, stray grenades near the party, finding a vehicle to repair/commandeer, chance to move forward un-impeded
Safe zones for the players to recover stamina or buffs, these night still be attacked
Destroying a spire might free additional troops for the party, make enraged citizens instead flee or aid the heroes, or give access to heavier weapons for taking down the next spire.
