Rusty Dragon External View?

Rise of the Runelords

So I've been able to find a bunch of different maps of the Rusty Dragon, but I've not been able to find any external drawing of the Rusty Dragon. My current group is interested in seeing what it looks like from the outside. They are intrigued by the large rusting iron dragon on the roof. Does anyone know of any drawings of its exterior?

Well, this can be a really hard searching...I'm actually running this campaing, in this chapter and i think your best option is to find an ancient chinese building, and asume that in the roof is a huge rusty dragon.

Something like this should work for the rusty dragon tavern.

If you dont want to pretend that the building is "tian based", just take a look to the description in the book and look for a picture that resembles it. I've asumed that a noble family could afford a different way of building the tavern.

Ameiko is said to have bought the Rusty Dragon froma previous, local owner. There's no reason for it to have Tian architecture. The dragon itself isn't an imperial (Tian-styled) dragon either:

Pathfinder Chronicles: Dragons of Sandpoint Hinterlands wrote:
Tiruvinn: Before Ameiko Kaijitsu retired early from the adventuring lifestyle to buy Sandpoint's oldest inn, the building was a relatively run-down establishment known somewhat dully as the "Sandpoint Inn." The owners were eager to sell the building and retire to Magnimar, but they may now regret the decision as Ameiko singlehandedly turned the establishment into the town's most successful business. She renamed the place Rusty Dragon, apparently after the old iron dragon-shaped lightning rod and decoration that has graced the building's roofline for decades, but whenever anyone asks her about the choice of name, she shrugs and smirks mischievously, as if there's more to the story she's not telling. In fact, the original dragon on which the decoration was inspired by is Tiruvinn, a reclusive adult bronze dragon that has dwelt in a hidden sea cave a few miles north of Nettlewood. (...)

There's an image of the exterior of the Rusty Dragon on page 8 of Dynamite comics Pathfinder #1, illustrated by Andrew Huerta.

The drawing is the top panel of a 5-panel page, taking about the top quarter. It looks like typical two-story fantasy inn with a rusty statue of a dragon perched on top.

In the illustration, it looks like the statue is of a pretty standard Western dragon, and would probably be about fifteen feet wide and six feet tall.

I can't find preview art of that page, so I can't link to it.

Ok, i dont want to be rude, so please forgive my language, i'm from spain and i may not know how to write this so it doesnt sound like i'm an idiot.

In that definition you can read "ameiko turned the establishment in to the town's most successful business" and also "the decoration of the building is inspired in a dragon".

I like to see descriptions as a base where i can work with. Turning a desolated building into a sucessfull tavern requires a lot of work, maybe she could put a lot of "her" in the new building glory.

Overall, i just want to say you dont need to follow the rules as they were a one way path.

But Ameiko was born and grew up in Sandpoint, Varisia and had never seen Minkaian architecture, let alone that she certainly isn't the traditionalist her father wants her to be. So putting 'her' in the new building would mean, I guess, Varisian architecture.

also, I scanned the panel in question and cut it so that only the necessary aspects of the artwork (as in: the Rusty Dragon itself) are viewable. (if it's not legally on the web for free, someone doesn't want to see you the whole page for free, I guess)

It was already an inn with a dragon statue on top. There's no indication in any of the books that reference the Rsuty Dragon that she did a complete overhaul of the building, just that she was far more successful at it than the previous owners. And as others have said, she was born and raised in Sandpoint and never seen Minkai. She has no reason to completely change the architecture of the building. Also, if it was of a drastically different architecture than the rest of the town, that would likely be noted in the adventures or books that reference it.

As far as I know Kaijitsu Manor (both the Sandpoint version and the one in Magnimar) also have standard Varisian architecture. Same goes for the Glassworks.

Thanks. I completely forgot about the comics. Thanks for the reminder!
