Titans is starting to suck. First it was that damned cross-over, where they f#~$ed Wally West over some more (seriously, f!~~ you Didio). Now they're introducing relationship drama (it's like the f+$@ing CW), as well as the concept of a traitor. The artwork is pretty cool though.
Nightwing is entertaining, although they're basically rebooting his original series. Not very creative.

Oh joy! They've brought an adult Damien into Batman Beyond as the new Demon. And hear I was enjoying the series. I wonder if he'll be just as much of an obnoxious little shit as his younger counterpart....
It pisses me off, really. Beyond was the one Bat series where, so far, I was free of that damnable character. Seriously, if I could go back in time just once, I think I'd use the opportunity to somehow stop Grant Morrison from ever creating that little abomination.

Part 6 of The Fall and Rise of Captain Atom was in my box this week. Unfortunately, I don't have Part 5. Until now, I wasn't sure if it had been delayed. Those idiots at the store never put the issue in with my other stuff, something they've had a problem with before. This is why I keep a list of what's coming out each week, and bring it with me when I go. Because I can't trust them to do their jobs properly.

Finally caught up on all my reading.
DC's Kamandi Challenge has been a fun little series. It's cool to see what each new creative team does with the cliffhanger the previous team left for them. Overall, it's been very creative. The only problem is it doesn't seem to be going anywhere.
The Dark Knight III is finally done. It was a cool story. Although I felt it was kind of rushed near the end, and that Miller wasn't really into it. Still, it was entertaining.
Moon Knight was weird, but a fun run. I'm sad to see it over.
Aberzombie |
In fact, now that I think about it, with Moon Knight ended, and Man-Thing soon coming to an end, I'll be down to just three Marvel titles.
I don't see Daredevil ending anytime soon. Even if the current run comes to an end, they'll pick it up again soon enough. Infamous Iron Man won't last, though. Doom is always far better used as a villain. Nick Fury can maybe last, but I wouldn't bet good money on it.

In updating my list through the end of August, however, I noted some pretty cool shit coming down the line from DC. Mostly one shots, but there's one mini-series. Listed below:
New Gods Special #1
Mister Miracle 12-part mini-series
Sandman Special #1 (not the Gaiman Sandman)
Manhunter Special #1 (Paul Kirk!!!)
Black Racer & Shilo Norman Special #1
Darkseid Special #1
Needless to say, each of these got me excited. Especially the New Gods stuff, which has always been a favorite of mine. I know there's also a new Forager series that's been out, but since the artwork sucks big hairy goat balls, I didn't bother collecting it.
Aberzombie |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Meh. The metal stuff might be interesting, but it doesn't seem very coherently put together at the moment. The Forge one shot was decent, at least.
In the end, if it means they get their house back in order, I'll be happy. Especially if they get consign Damien Wayne to the memory hole where he belongs, and maybe shift Cyborg back over to the Titans where he belongs.
Thomas Seitz |
Well Damien does need more consistent writing. Some times (like what he did in the Lazarus Contract thingie) he becomes SUPER jerk. Other times...he just a kid that's a jerk (like in Superman #25)
Otherwise I do agree. We'll see about getting the houses in order. So far it seems...dodgey at best to get what you and I might consider "good".
Thomas Seitz |
A-zombie,
One thing I noticed in that Detective Comics moreso than the main story is Batman and Zatanna talking about either raising the dead, contacting the dead or something in between.
Also I did notice the name drop. But I'm more interested in how Teri Magnus got from 3001 (which was an alternate timeline) to Rebirth now.
Aberzombie |
I'm have come to the realization the writing in the Flash comics has, over the years, become just as convoluted and insane as the TV series. It may have even influenced the idiocy of the TV writers. Ever since Flashpoint and the New 52, it's all been screwed up. They've killed off Thawne so many times it isn't funny. And they also seem to consistently change his reasons for hating Barry. It can be maddening at times.
The lastest issue, however, had what looked to be a small bit of art inspired by the cover from issue #1 of Original Wally West. So that was cool.
Aberzombie |
So....this Dark Days Metal stuff from DC. I didn't ask for it, but the comic book store stuck it in my pull list. Normally when they do this, I just put whatever they're trying to sell me in a random location on the shelves.
First off, they've got some talent working on it, especially from the art standpoint. So that's cool.
Second off - oh joy, Batman is once again the center of the DC universe. As much as I love the character, that shit is getting ridiculous.
Third, I seriously hope they aren't going to keep harping on that crap about the Joker being some immortal. Beacuse that shit is just plain idiotic.
And it seems that, from Joker's ravings, traces of Nth metal (or some other kind of "special" metal might be responsible for meta-abilities. Interesting take on things.
Anyway, I hope it all leads to at least some kind of resolution to the whole Rebirth story.
Aberzombie |
Speaking of "rebirth"......
For the new Nightwing series, it seems to be not so much a "rebirth" as a "reboot" of the original (and FAR superior) run started by Chuck Dixon and Scott McDaniel. Except with tons more lameness, inlcuding a bunch of E-list reformed "villains" and a far less impressive Blockbuster.
I've been hoping the series would improve, but it might just be time to say goodbye.
Aberzombie |
It's kind of the same with Titans. It's been pretty annoying so far, especially with the way they keep screwing with Wally. This has been one of the less than impressive versions of rebooted characters in the current DC continuity. No Raven. No Cyborg. Lots of memory-holed character development. Very disappointing.
Aberzombie |
On the other hand, Detective has been entertaining. I'm still not thrilled it's become just another Bat-Team book, but the stories have been decent, with some interesting character development.
Except for the whole Spoiler-as-a-whiny-little-brat plot. That shit's just annoying. It'd have been better if they just left the character dead.
Thomas Seitz |
I actually LIKE Metal because clearly it is about other worldly metals and their influence on not just Metas, but magic and other things.
I dunno if it will tie up Rebirth, but I do think it ties WELL into it.
We'll see if that stick.
I skipped Nightwing mostly because I've grown VERY tired of seeing Dick Grayson. It's kind of the same thing with Titans in some ways. I will agree they have COMPLETELY screwed over Pre-flashpoint Wally. But if you're looking for Cyborg, again he's a Leaguer. Raven is with the younger "cooler" kids. I mean at least they have Young Justice type version of Aqua-lad.
Detective, for me, is more about resolving issues that I didn't know existed (like Bruce's memory loss for one and guest cameo by Zatanna)
Spoiler has lost me. But then again she lost me when she went back to being Spoiler instead of Bat-girl.
Aberzombie |
But if you're looking for Cyborg, again he's a Leaguer.
This, to me, is partly what's wrong. Cyborg is a Titan. At least, he should be.
Raven is with the younger "cooler" kids. I mean at least they have Young Justice type version of Aqua-lad.
Poor Raven, she got stuck on the team lead by the least impressive and most annoying Robin in the history of the character. Which, of course, is why I don't collect that book.
Thomas Seitz |
A-zombie,
You keep telling that to Geoff Johns and Didio. Maybe they'll listen. (I doubt it.)
I understand WHY you don't collect it (As I said I blame Damien for probably killing OG Wally West) But I read mostly in the vain hope they'll kick him off and make Starfire the leader.
Fall and Rise was good...but I didn't think it was the best Captain Atom mini-series.
Aberzombie |
I see Keith Giffen has gotten lazy. It only took him 10 issues and change to resolve his first story line in Blue Beetle.
On the other hand, there's Gerard Way writing Doom Patrol. It took him about 6 issues to resolve his first story line, but then he followed it up with what seems to be a one-shot. And it's been kind of weird and wacky. I like it.
I've got more stuff to read, but that'll have to wait. It's museum day today.
Aberzombie |
Future Quest Presents seems to have....potential. Love me some Space Ghost and Herculoids, especially when presented in a more serious light compared to what you might have found on TV.
IDW's Micronauts and Rom series continue to be entertaining. Story-wise, however, Micronauts is...off. Rom's story is just slooooooowwwww...
If I recall correctly, the Power of the Dark Crystal maxi-series is based on the script for the aborted movie sequal. I get the impression the writers of the series had a VERY bare bones story to flesh out.
Aberzombie |
Overall, I'm of the opinion DC is currently vastly superior to Marvel, especially in the writing department. And the new Mister Miracle series, of which I have not yet read issue #1, looks to continue that trend of kick ass-ness.
I'm hoping some of the other Kirby-honoring one shots lead to more, especially the Manhunter one shot. I'd seriously love to see something ongoing with that. As I recall, at one point they had a last surviving clone of Paul Kirk running around. I'd love to see him, or maybe Mark Shaw, return behind the mask.
