The Hellknight Signifer prestige class states that:

Quote:
A Hellknight signifer with a bonded object from the arcane bond class feature can perform a special ritual that costs 500 gp and takes 8 hours to complete. This ritual converts the signifer’s mask into his new bonded item, which takes up the head slot. In this case, Hellknight signifer levels stack with levels from the class that grants the bonded item for determining what additional magical abilities can be added to the bonded item.

Does this mean I can apply any head slot wondrous item to the helm or does it mean I can apply nothing to the helm in PFS because there are no wondrous item Signifer helms?

A wizard's bonded amulet can be crafted into any legal amulet, but not any neck slot item. Likewise a bonded mask could be crafted into any legal mask wondrous item.

Ok,thanks for the heads-up. Now, looking at masks I see that the War Mask of Terror has the following text:

Quote:

A war mask of terror provides its wearer with a +2 competence bonus on Intimidate checks and a +1 deflection bonus to Armor Class. In addition, the wearer may cast scare once per day.

Other war masks exist with different abilities; some have higher deflection bonuses, while others can cast bull’s strength, fear, or flesh to stone instead of scare.

Can I create a mask with the abilities listed in bold in the description? Also, can I increase the deflection bonus incrementally?

Unfortunately, no. That line describes various different possible war masks, not a war mask of terror. Only the item as printed is PFS legal.

The Signifer Mask is a specific item. You cannot use any mask to be a signifer mask. It is a non-magic item that functions as follows:

Signifer Mask, Path of the Hellknight Pg 63 wrote:
The menacing, eyeless masks of Hellknight signifers were first created by members of the Order of the Gate and are semitransparent on the inside. Those who wear them are treated as if they were wearing smoked goggles Pathfinder RPG Ultimate Equipment 72). A character with the Hellknight signifer prestige class (Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Paths of Prestige 28) can see through the mask as normal, but can also adjust her mask as a standard action to function as a pair of smoked goggles once more. signifer masks are often enhanced, becoming variants of items that take up the head item slot. Additionally, when a character takes levels in the Hellknight signifer prestige class, this mask grants the benefits and capabilities of the signifer mask supernatural ability.

Paths of Prestige describe how they work. Path of the Hellknight doesn't overrule that.

I never claimed it overruled it. Even the prestige class itself describes it as a specific item. It does not say they receive any magical mask they wish. The receive a "Signifer Mask". Path of the Hellknight then expands what exactly that mask is. While in a home game you can ignore the second book, RAW indicates what the "Signifer Mask" is and what you can do with it. So Hellknight Signifer gives you a Signifer mask that gives you some useful bonuses and can become a bonded object. Path of the Hellknight then further tells you that for anyone it functions as smoked goggles and the Signifer can use a standard action to see normally or change it back. One does not override the other, but expands on it. You cannot ignore one rule just because the other came out first.

The fact that a signifier mask acts like smoked goggles has no impact on how it can be enchanted as a bonded object. It is a mask and can be enchanted as a mask. So, what rules do you think I am ignoring?

This is certainly not true. You cannot choose "any legal mask" and make it a Signifer mask.

... I'm not saying that at all. In fact, I am saying the reverse.

You can make a signifer mask into a wondrous item via the bonded item rules. I agree that you cannot take a wondrous item and bond it to be your signifer mask.

I see. So the my whole argument was based on a misunderstanding. I may have to switch out my arcane bond before I hit 2nd level. At any rate, my apologies. It turns out I learned something today.
