Inspired by this thread, I had the idea to make a Bloodrager that uses Unarmed Strikes in combination with Natural Attacks and Dragon Style/Ferocity to maximize DPR. This monstrosity is what I came up with.
And I call him Allen. =P
Human Draconic Rageshaper Primalist Bloodrager 5 / Master of Many Styles Monk 1 / Dragon Disciple 4
This build is pretty strict in terms of meeting prerequisites and is very specific about the order in which you gain levels and abilities to get as much damage output as early as possible. Note that you need 5 ranks in Acrobatics and Knowledge (Arcana) at level 5 and are getting 3 skill points per level.
20-point buy:
Str: 15+2 racial
Dex: 15 (necessary for TWF)
Con: 14
Int: 8
Wis: 12
Cha: 11 (necessary for casting level 1 spells)
Important Feats / Abilities by level
1. Claws (Bloodline), Bloodrage, Two-Weapon Fighting, Weapon Focus: Claws(Human)
2. Dragon Style(MoMS) Improved Unarmed Strike, Stunning Fist
3. Feral Combat Training (Claws)
4.+1 STR
5. Spellcasting, Reckless Abandon* & Superstitious (Primalist), Dragon Ferocity, Claw Damage Increase (Rageshaper)
6. Blood of Dragons (Dragon Disciple)
7. +2 STR, Power Attack (Bloodline Feat) Multiattack
8.+1 CHA (to enable 2nd level spells), Breath Weapon
9. +2 STR, Improved Two-Weapon Fighting, Breath Weapon 2/day,Claw Damage Increase (Bloodline)
*Or whatever Rage Power you prefer. If your game is going past 13th level, I recommend the Beast Totem line so you can eventually get Pounce.
So, starting off, we get Claws from our Bloodline at level 1 and immediately take Weapon Focus so we can qualify for FCT at level 3. You can use your claws as primary attacks while raging or pick up whatever melee weapon suits your fancy. You have TWF, but I wouldn’t recommend it yet as the penalties are a little too heavy at low levels. A shield also wouldn’t be a bad idea to make you less likely to die (although anything heavier than a buckler takes away one of your claw attacks).
At level 2, we dip into Monk to get IUS, Stunning Fist and Dragon Style for free, giving us a strong option for single attacks and enabling us to get up to 4 attacks a turn by combining our claws with unarmed kicks, though at pretty heavy penalties.
Levels 3-5 are Bloodrager again, FCT allows Dragon Style/Ferocity to bump the damage of our claws as well as our kicks. Spells at level 5 should probably be Shield and Enlarge Person (or other self-buffing spells, your DCs will be crap), giving you a little more defense, or a lot more damage and reach.
Levels 6-9 we take Dragon Disciple to get that sexy inherent bonus to Strength, which I’m sure you’re seeing by now we’re really make work for us. The natural armor is nice too. At level 7 we get a Bite attack to add onto our onslaught. At level 8 we finally get another iterative attack (The price we pay for dipping twice), and level 9 gives us another attack with Imp. TWF, bringing the total up to 7 attacks per full-attack. 9th level also brings second level spells, though I’m not sure you need them.
Levels 10+ just continue with Bloodrager, grab Greater TWF at 13 and go to town.
I’ve never played a campaign past level 10, so I can’t really speculate beyond that, but the core of the build is there and I’m sure you can build on it as you see fit.
Alternatively, for a more defensive variant, you could take an additional level of MoMS Monk, granting an additional +1 on all saves, evasion and grabbing Crane Style giving you a -2 Att/+4 AC while fighting defensively. Feel free to combine this with the Reckless Abandon rage power for no attack penalty and +2AC. Note that doing this will throw off your level 7 feat since you won’t have the bite from DD to qualify for Multiattack, but that’s not a huge loss. I haven’t actually figured out what might be a good alternative feat at 7... If you’re going defensive anyway, maybe Dodge?
Your first major purchase should be a Furious Amulet of Mighty Fists, giving you a +2 bonus to all natural and unarmed strikes while raging. Other than that taking up your amulet slot, typical Big Six items are recommended. You also need a belt of Dex +2 by level 9 to qualify for Imp TWF. You could go for a Monk’s Robe, but the damage increase will be minimal. If your GM is nice and lets Robe of Arcane Heritage boost your Bloodrager Bloodline (And be exchanged for Rage powers through the Primalist archetype) that might be a better option.
So, let’s look at an attack sequence. At level 5 without items but while raging we have +8/+8/+6/+6 on kick/kick/claw/claw, with damage being 1d6+12/1d6+9/1d8+6/1d8+6
At level 7 with Power Attack, a +2 Belt of STR, and a Furious+1 Amulet we have +12/+12/+13/+13+/12 (adding in the bite attack) for 1d6+23/1d6+19/1d8+13/1d8+13/1d8+9 or, if all attacks hit, an average of 97 damage.
Level 10 with a +4 Belt of Physical Might gives us +15/+15/+10/+10/+16/+16/+15 doing 1d6+29/1d6+24/1d6+24/1d6+24/2d6+16/2d6+16/1d6+11 totalling to 9d6+ 144 (if all hits)
Note: This is my first post, and I’ve only played this char at level 4, but I’ve had this build in mind since the ACG came out and wanted to share.
