All we can say is that our goal is to ship early enough that most US subscribers will get them on or before the release date, but that's not a guarantee.

I can't speak on behalf of Amazon, but in general, other sellers are allowed to ship things to arrive *on* the release date, but they shouldn't be shipping anything to arrive *prior* to the release date.

Angry Wizard wrote:
If I preorder all the Starfinder products I'm going to buy through paizo, will they arrive by the release date or will they ship on the release date.

If you subscribe (which will be the best paizo-direct option, once it goes live - hopefully any day now!) they won't promise you'll get it on or before street date, however it's extremely rare for US subscribers to not have it by then. I'm overseas and in the last nine or so years I've got maybe six shipments later than street date, probably even less.

One benefit of subscribing for many (if you're super-keen to get a look at the game early) is that when they ship it to you a few days prior to street date, you'll likely get immediate access to the PDF. This hasn't actually been formally announced as a subscription perk to my knowledge, but it's the case with literally every other subscription they offer that has a PDF version, so it's a pretty safe bet.

It's worth remembering that "getting it early" is not actually a promise (despite nearly always achieving it). Nonetheless, it's generally the fastest method.

Do you guys benefit from people buying your products on Amazon? If so, does Amazon ship to arrive by release date or ship on the the release date? Their suggested release date says September 5th, so it worries me that ordering through Amazon will cause my products to ship far later after the release.

Paizo have frequently stated that they appreciate sales through every distribution channel and that they think people should choose whatever works best for them. So if Amazon is your preferred option they do benefit.)

However, Amazon is notorious for being late. It's often the cheapest option, but there have been many, many threads over they years imploring Paizo to 'fix' Amazon's tardiness and there isn't really anything Paizo can do about it.

My impression is that the frequency of those threads has died down a bit (so perhaps it's not as bad as it used to be). However, I think you face a definite choice between cheap-and-slow via Amazon or full-price-and-fast via Paizo (there will be a subscriber discount, but Paizo charge shipping at cost and this often eats most of the discount up).

Vic's words are worth more than mine. What he said. :)

You did great. A lot of people will value "genuine user experience" over whatever I have to say anyway!

Agreed. I'm in the UK and my experience of Amazon (as a Prime member) is that Paizo products arrive several weeks after the release date. My preferred option for Pathfinder (and will be for Starfinder as soon as it's confirmed) is subscription direct from Paizo. Even with shipping from the US I get products around the end of the month and way earlier than Amazon would ship.

Hi Diego,

Can you do the same for me for Order 4341564? Currently I have it set as "ship with subscriptions" because of the breaking it into child orders thing. I would like it to ship together, as early as possible, and using the USPS Priority Mail option.

And a question for Vic and/or Sara:
With PaizoCon behind you, and only 67 days to Gen Con, is there a more definitive ETA on when subscriptions might be announced?

Hey there!

I've just responded to your email about this order. Once I hear back from you, I can get your items consolidated for you. Just let me know if you have any other questions in the meantime. Thanks!

Just to clarify, does that mean the Starfinder items are expected to ship before the August subscriptions? I would prefer to keep mine combined, but if this would mean I do not receive my Starfinder items before the release, I guess I would ask the same as AkosPrime to make sure I receive it for the release (hopefully).

The Starfinder Core Rulebook will be released the same day as all of our other August releases (August 17—the first day of Gen Con), so it will be part of the August subscription shipment.

Vic Wertz wrote:

Oh. Well that changes things rather dramatically for me personally then. I thought I was going to get a chance to get it before I left for Gen Con. If that's not the case, then it really doesn't make sense to ship it separately and pay additional shipping charges above and beyond the August subscription.

I understand the business logic, but it kind of stinks as someone who pre-orders that someone willing to stand in line for a couple of hours at the Paizo booth at Gen Con is going to have their books days/weeks before a pre-order person will.

I suppose at this point I can just hope that the 'pickup your order at Gen Con' will be an option this year.

Oh well, c'est la guerre!

Paizo Employee Chief Technical Officer

We do intend to offer subscription pickup at Gen Con.

Also, just to be clear here, assuming everything arrives in our warehouse on time, we do intend to begin shipping out August sub shipments prior to the release date, with the intent of getting sub shipments to most US subscribers around that date, just as we usually do. We just can't guarantee it.

I don't want to hi-jack the Starfinder thread, but since you mentioned it and since I didn't do the on-site pickup last year because I didn't feel the need to have it my greedy, little hands that fast, I have a couple of quick questions regarding the on-site pick-up option:

1.) Since the goods change hands in Indy, do we suddenly have to pay IN sales tax? (as opposed to paying shipping?) If so, is that handled automatically behind the scenes, or is a method of payment needed to pay for the tax at the time of transfer? If we do have to pay, what is IN sales tax? (for figuring out if it's better or worse to pay tax vs. pay shipping)

2.) Will there be separate lines for subscription pickup? Or will there just be the one (usually massive) line leading to a line of cash registers where any associate can handle the subscription? This is important for planning purposes since assuming there's only the single, general line, then it's not unreasonable to have to set aside 90-120 minutes of con time to plan on spending in line. Ergo, finding the best day/time to do said line standing is important. ;-)

3.) Do you have to have your online method of payment with you, e.g. do you have to have the physical credit card that is used for your online subscription orders with you in hand in order to pickup?

4.) Will there be any way to have a friend/spousal-unit/acquaintance pickup one's subscription items? Or can only the actual subscriber pickup his/her subscription order?

5.) Is there anything we (the picker uppers) make the process faster/easier at Gen Con? Anything we should have in hand, ready to go? Any information, order numbers, user id, etc. that would make the process go smoother?

I can answer question 4, since I raised it before Gen Con last year:

No, you yourself have to be at Gen Con to pick up your subscription orders. I am not 100% sure about spouses, but a friend or acquaintance definitely won't work.

I'm pretty sure that, whether or not Paizo adds on sales tax, the state of Indiana would say, "Yes, you have to pay sales tax." Indianapolis sales tax is currently at 7%.

1. When we set the orders up, we take off the shipping and handling and charge Indiana sales tax which I believe is 7%.

2. We haven't sussed out if we plan on changing the logistics of the booth lines for this year.

3. You do not need the payment method to pick up your subscriptions unless it didn't process correctly and you need to fix the payment at the show.

4. The subscriber must pick it up. We do not currently have a system in place that would allow for anyone but the subscriber to pick up their items.

5. Know the email address we have in our system for your paizo.com account. It can also be helpful if you have the email order confirmation with the items you'll be picking up accessible, either on a smart phone or print off. If there is an issue, we then have all the data we need to locate the order in our system and figure out what's going on.

Subscriptions won't be available until late July, I think I read elsewhere?

Any updates on Starfinder miniatures?

Vic hinted pretty strongly that the subscriptions should be available in June (although didn't provide a guarantee).

Similarly, his most recent comment on the minis was that they were shooting for a September release.

So the Starfinder products page shows eighteen different goodies but also says "browsing 21 items". Perhaps there are three currently hidden subscriptions?

I'd guess "core", "accessories" and "SFS" as available at launch with a minis subscription to come later.

There are actually hidden things in the rulebooks section in some way, I believe, because is says it has 6 items, but I only see three books. And I don't think your list of subscriptions could be accurate, because there will have to be one for the adventure path. I'm hoping the current categories are how subscriptions will work out, because I'm not buying a GM screen just for the subscriber pdf of the rulebook!

I thought the AP was part of the rulebook line for Starfinder?

I haven't heard anything to suggest the rulebooks and AP were going to be part of the same line or were going to share a subscription in a long time. Recently, Vic Wertz did say that the Starfinder subscription structure would be similar to Pathfinder subscriptions, and the current organization of the Starfinder stuff suggests to me that the subscriptions will likely be:
1. The AP. Will probably have something a bit like Pathfinder Advantage, but we've been warned it won't be exactly the same.
2. Rule books. Will probably be list price, but with free PDFs.
3. Gaming aids.
4. Maps
5. Starfinder Society Scenarios

Part 3 doesn't quite match Pathfinder, but I think it's quite likely due to how the Starfinder stuff is organized on the website.

The Starfinder Accessories Ongoing Subscription is making me choose with which of four products I want to start. How do I make certain all are included?

Thanks, Sara Marie.

Roll on August. :)

I went with the default (Pawn collection, I think) and all four are now showing in my subscription page as coming up in August.

I tried all four options. It appears that you get all four of the August items no matter which one you pick. I was actually looking for a way to skip a couple of items, so I am mildly disappointed.

I apologize for the lack of clarity on that. The starting volume for the Starfinder Accessories is the GM Screen, so opting to start with that should generate all 4 items when we generate orders.

Based on other subscriptions that have had 'doubled up' months, when the month arrives Im sure it will be easy enough to get CS to cancel what you dont want.

You probably need to wait for the august subs to spawn and then you can ring/email/post in the CS forum to have the unwanted items removed before shipping starts.

Hmm. I chose the Combat Pad, and that's the only accessory that's sitting in my Sidecart, but if I look in My Subscriptions all four of the accessories show up. What's actually going to show up in the mail?

Also, I added the fourth subscription in a separate order from the other three, and now in My Subscriptions the prices for that subscription's items seem to be getting the 15% discount, but none of the other subscriptions are. That seems odd...

Yes the accessories subscription is wonky. I've ordered all four physical subscriptions, but for the accessories, only the GM Screen shows up in my order, and all four accessories are still listed in my sidecart. The accessories also sub does not show up on my forum tags not am I getting the Superscriber tag, and the complimentary Starfinder Society Subscription is not listed anywhere at all.

I also did not receive the usual email for this order.

Can someone official please clarify if it's possible to subscribe to the accessories, but not get all of them? I would be interested in subscribing, but only if it's possible to get only the pawns or the pawns and the combat pad.

edit: also, my forum tag has gone wonky; I have a comics subscription, but not a deluxe one. I'm not sure what happened there.

Silver Crusade

Ah, I just noticed the Deluxe Comics Subscriber too.

And you have to get all four lines to get the cool Charter tag? Fooie :3

Hm, the Starfinder subscription tags have been inserted in the middle of my "Pathfinder Tales Subscriber" tag. Weird.

Hm I notice David knott 242 did get the "Starfinder Charter Superscriber" tag. I diodn't although I subscribed to all four physical lines, but the accessory sub is broken somehow.

The subscription details page make reference to the following:

As a bonus, when you sign up to four physical Starfinder subscriptions you'll qualify as a Starfinder Superscriber and gain access to Paizo Advantage, a discount program that grants you a 15% discount on most products available on paizo.com. More details about Paizo Advantage can be found here.

Additionally, Starfinder Superscribers receive a free Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild Scenario subscription.

Does the Guild Scenario subscription get added automatically, or must I manually add that subscription as well?
Unrelated: My Subscription page currently shows the cover price and not the discount - Im assuming that will correct when the items release and are shipped?

Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Society Subscriber

The reply to my question is that you get the benefits of the RPG Guild subscription automatically if you have the four physical subscriptions, no need to do anything at the customer end.
Technically a Starfinder Superscriber doesn't actually have the RPG Guild subscription, just gets the benefits as if they have it.
