Magic illiterate character concept

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

So I'm designing a back up character for a level 5 campaign, I may be a higher level when I need it but eh. So the concept is a fighter, or some other nonmagic type of character, that is so lacking in magic knowledge that he is barely effected by it. Does anyone have an idea on how to build such a character, or at least one with a similar effect?

I saw the concept referenced in a Conan story, but it seemed only to work against mesmerism.

I'm not sure how being illiterate in magic protects you from being Lightning Bolted.

Most non-casting characters, animals, and other mindless creatures are compeletely lacking in magic knowledge.

That doesn't protect them against magic.

The best ways to do this I can think of are either dwarven fighter with the alternate racial that gives SR or the untouchable rager bloodrager AT.

Seconding Superstition Human Barbarian.

You're essentially making a Blank from the 40k universe - someone who is so out of sync with the supernatural that it just kind of rolls past them.

Or, you could take the RIFTS route and create someone whose natural magical talent is influenced by their own stubborn disbelief, inadvertently making them a null-zone for magic.

theres an archetype for barbarians that makes them iliterate and protects them from rune magic cant remember if its paizo or 3rd party tho

A dwarf with the trait glory of old and the feat Steel Soul has +5 to saves against spells and spell like abilities, you could even combine that with superstitious barbarian.

Are you appealing to like the nulls in 40K type trope?

What you're looking for is a fundamental disbelief so strong as to resist magic's effects.

I don't think he is, fundamental disbelief is active, being illiterate is passive.
