If you were selected to play in this campaign, please review the build rules and communicate with your team to make a working party. Make sure you play what you want, not what others want you to play. I hope to start the game as soon as everyone is squared away with their character builds and ready to step into the setting.
Please read the players guide you can download for free from Paizo
Your characters will start in a small village called Heldren. This is located near the Border Woods between Zimar and Demgazi. This area is mostly known for logging, hunting and travel. (can be seen at bottom right area of map)
Take note that this region is no where near a snowy region and it is currently mid summer. Taldor is close to the equator and so it's pretty hot around this time of year.
The best and easiest way to get the adventure started is for some reason you all are in the village. You can be living there, visiting or passing through. We will establish your characters placement in the world before we start the clock on game day.
Your game will start in the Year 4713 AR on Oathday, 17th Earstus at 12:00 pm - current moon cycle: new moon
Reign of Winter Play by Post Build Rules
- Starting at LVL 1
- Starting average gold for class and free outfit at or under 10 gp
- 2 Traits, no drawbacks (1 trait must be a trait from the Reign of Winter player's guide)
- Max starting health for your classes HD
- All Races 16 or lower RP (I encourage exotic races)
- All classes are allowed except for 3rd party, Mythic, Occult, Vigilante, Summoner, Unchained Summoner or builds focused on summoning.
- No Evil alignments
- 20 point buy for stats
- We are using Unchained Background Skills & Alternate Crafting and Profession Rules
- We are not using Pathfinder Society Rules, Hero Points, Words of Power, Ultimate Combat Armor/DR, Called Shots, Piecemeal Armor, Wounds or Vigor.
- We are not using Unchained Gameplay, Stamina and Combat Tricks, Wounds Thresholds, Magic, Consolidated Skills, Grouped Skills, Skill Unlocks, Variant Multicasting, Fractional Base Bonuses or Staggered Advancement
- No 3rd party material
- No material may be used from Mystic Adventures or Occult.
- You may use campaign settings, player companion and similar Paizo content as long as the trait is not part of an adventure path you’re not playing in and of course you must qualify to take said feature.
- Pounce (Ex) is OP and I have many issues with Paizo’s wording. A cat will only make rake attacks if it grabs, and if it grabs you can not make claw attacks. If you fail to grab you can continue with your claw attacks. In other words, no your cat is not going to get 5 attacks on a charge/pounce. We can discuss but I will not be changing this ruling.
- I do not tolerate thieving from other players or hiding party loot from your allies. All loot will be divided equally among the party. You will keep track on your own character sheets what you have in your inventory. I will be 100% aware of the items I gave the party and the items you purchased/or started the game with. If you sell items that actually belong to you, then all the gold should go to you unless you want to share.
- All character sheets must be approved before game date. I may make suggestions, but only to ensure your success.
- I would appreciate it if we can keep the rhythm of 1 post a day. If not more! If you're going to be absent please let me know. I also understand life is life so if you miss a day, just let me know you're OK and get a post up as soon as you can.
OK that's it for now. Let's chat it up and get going on character creation.

Dotting in, and thanks for having me, as well! I'm currently thinking an archer character. I really like Humans, so I'm thinking an Ulfen Human with a father who was in the Ulfen Guard and then retired to Heldren once his term was up, bringing him along. I'd probably start with fighter, but am considering adding some levels of sorcerer to head for the arcane archer prestige class.

Baxter Whitetail was part of a mischief of rats that were traveling up north. A blizard proved too much for the family and they started succumbing to the cold and he and his mother barely managed to escape to a dragon's den in the area. A white dragon resided there agreed to take care of the infant rat... for some reason.
Baxter grew up in a dragon's den, learned to deal with the cold. And became insanely curious. Amused, the dragon encouraged his investigative prowess, teaching him random bits of knowledge and teaching him about alchemy and other pursuits.

Leedwashere, here, with what I'm thinking so far. Taking Fighter as the favored class and eventually planning to dip at least one level into sorcerer before going into Arcane Archer. The intent there is to function as a ranged martial character with a few extra arcane tricks, not to steal any thunder from anyone else interested in playing an arcane casting class. Alternately, if it looks like it would be more helpful based on what others want to play, I can swap the favored class and go a bit more heavily into the arcane focus. The Statblock is also in the alias profile to make it easy to keep up to date.
He's a northerner at heart, and probably wouldn't even be in Taldor if it weren't for his father's appointment to the Ulfen Guard. He's always been a bit uncomfortable in the warmer climate, and misses his childhood home in the Lands of the Linnorm Kings. He'd hoped that they'd move back there when his father's term in the Guard was done, and was dismayed when he chose to move them to the small Taldan town of Heldren instead. Now that he's a bit older, and more adept with weapons, he's looking to strike out on his own and trying to get some mercenary work, hoping that he can find an opportunity that can help him eventually make his way northward again.

Northern Ancestry One of your parents came from the North, and the tales of the frozen lands at the top of the world that you grew up listening to excited your imagination. Alternatively, maybe one of your ancestors passed on the blood of some frost-rimed creature. You feel most alive during the chill of winter, and as a child, you spent hours playing in the snow. You rarely feel the cold, and you’ve always had a restless longing to travel north. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Fortitude saves, as well as cold resistance 2; this resistance does not stack with cold resistance gained from any other source.
Unscathed You are amazingly resistant to energy attacks because of either your upbringing or magical experimentation. Each type of energy resistance you have (if any) increases by 2 points.

Looks like we need some magic!
I'm curious DS: do you not like summoners because they eat up table time? Or think they're OP, or some other reason?
I played a summoning cleric in a pbp Kingmaker and that was fun. My main PFS character is a Conjuror wizard focused on summoning. They've been fun but I don't want to play another.

Deadly secret |

They take up too much space, time and takes a lot of the glory from the other players. I have seen summoners work and it really ends up being the summoner playing the game and the others just following. There have been at least 5 live examples I have witnessed from different people and it always resulted in the same thing. Reign of Winter doesn't have a lot of map room and will just force your allies to wait outside while your summons do everything because they can't fit into the room.
Anyways, I prefer to keep things about the players and their characters. Everyone will have equal opportunity to shine.

Doing those things on auto (and then putting them in spoilers) wouldbe super helpful.

Initiatives and passive perceptions, I'd say definitely yes. (If you don't want to make it obvious, I find putting things like passive perceptions behind a spoiler tag helps). For monster knowledges, I'd be fine with either you rolling them yourself, or putting info/links behind a spoiler with the DC listed. Stealth, I think, is something that can be appended to any action we're posting on our own behalf, but I wouldn't object if you want to add that (especially if it would be called for but was neglected).
I'd also say that saving throws are another good one to add to the list, that way we know when going into our posts if we've got a condition of some sort to factor in. Another roll that I've often done is diplomacy/intimidate/bluff if the situation called for it but no roll was given. That's all I can think of for now.

Vernonia Banks |

PDXCook here. I submit to you Vernonia Banks. A tall, young woman with fiery red hair and smooth alabaster skin. Her features are more human than Asimar but there is definitely a celestial beauty about her.
The seasons are out of balance. Reports of winter weather in the middle of summer had come in from all across the land. The head of her order has sent Vernonia to the town of Heldren in southern Taldor to investigate these reports.
Only because that is as far away as they could think to send me. Vernonia mused as she entered the town.
They never understood her affinity for fire or why Gozreh allowed her the divine power to use it. The answer was in her blood but they did not need to know that. She had been persecuted and punish for her abilities. They were not in the tenants of her faith but she knew that they came with the blessings of her god. She hoped to prove this to the others in her order and this may just be the opportunity she needed. If she could restore the seasons to their proper ways it would prove that she belonged in the order.

DS, would you be okay with a Samsaran taking the breadth of experience feat?
It's reserved for the long-lived races that were in the game at the time the feat was written (elf, dwarf, gnome) but samsarans are a famously long-lived race and it would suit the thirster-after-knowledge vibe I want for my character.

Sorry Samsaran's don't qualify for that feat. Technically you're neither or those races (not even by subtype).

Voronwe Elberion |

Say hello to Voronwe Elberion, elf arcanist.
I'm thinking of an elf who is interested in the idea of the brightness and is also into the Desnan exploring mindset. He's driven by a thirst for knowledge and is keen to engage with new experiences.
He's in Heldran to experience an obscure, rare thing (plant, food, heavenly alignment, folk song... hopefully DS can advise on what would be best).

OK I'll spend some time tonight to think on that.

Honestly Heldren is a run down village that doesn't have much life to it or visitors. Travelers pass by to get from Oppara to Zimar or vice versa and often stop at the stables to trade out horses. In fact Heldren does not have an Inn.

Deadly secret |

OK I am officially ready to get the adventure on the move on. All prep work is done. Once I get the final 2 characters locked in I will begin the first post. I am pretty excited, I'm not going to lie.
If you haven't joined Roll20 yet, please do so eventually. We will only be using it for specific maps and that won't be for a long while. However, if you do join it you will be able to see an area map with an x token. This will indicate your movement as you travel where ever....

The Pale King |

Looking at everyone else, logically I should stick with Bloodrager to be frontline tank, but I am really liking an idea that came to mind: Eldritch Scoundrel Unchained Rogue dual wielding cestuses, the imagery is just very cool.
Maybe I'll just duel wield cestuses on a Bloodrager :P
Also do you require the Fiendish Heritage feat be taken to get alternative heritages on Tieflings?

Ysabella |

Character sheet is almost finished for Ysabella the Suli Arcane Bloodrager.
She was kidnapped as a young child by an evil Winter Witch and experimented on. She managed to escape, but not without scars. She has been running for a while now and ended up in Heldren where she has tried to settle into a simple life. Unforunately for her, the past has a way of coming back to haunt you.
Haven't decided whether to used Warded Against Witchery or Failed Winter Witch Apprentice as her campaign trait. I could argue for either to work easily enough. The Bloodrager class skill list also isn't very conductive to background skills so I still have to pick those.

Baxter Whitetail |

So Baxter would have ended up here if only because his mother figure (the dragon) had gotten tired of him and told him to leave for now. So he's wandered about, getting his nose into things. He would have just recently come into town because one of the robbed caravans he tracked down had a letter in it to a person living here. He was hoping he could finish delivering the letter since it was all that was left when he found the caravan. The bandits had taken everything else and he wasn't capable of getting it all back himself either way.
Who the letter is to is ultimately inconsequential, but Baxter likes seeing mysteries come to a conclusion.

Okay, Voronwe was travelling to Opara and saw a rare orchid on the road.
He is guessing that it could be local (he is wrong) and decided to spend a few days exploring the area.
You forgot your 2 background skill points. You can put them in Appraise, Handle Animal, Know (Eng, Geo, His, Nob), Linguistics, Sleight of Hand, Profession, Perform, Craft.
