Merisiel evade power vs Pirate Hunter barrier

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

I have a question about Merisiel's evade power, specifically with respect to the "Pirate Hunting" barrier.

Here is the Power of the barrier for quick reference: "Summon and encounter a random ship, or a random monster if you are not on a ship. If the summoned card is undefeated, leave this barrier face up on the location deck and put the summoned card next to it. Characters at this location encounter the summoned card as their first exploration each turn."

Here are my questions:

I know that Merisiel could evade the barrier when she first encounters it, and it would be shuffled back in the the location deck. My questions are about what happens if I choose to NOT evade the barrier.

Merisiel encounters "Pirate Hunting", and she chooses NOT to evade. She is on a ship, so a random ship is summoned (do I include ships that I an not currently in that in my fleet as well as ships I do not own?).

So now Merisiel encounters a Ship. Merisiel choose to evade the encounter, and now I am unsure what happens next:

Is the ship banished and defeated? From the rules from what I understand "after evading a summoned card....banish it unless you're instructed otherwise." According to the evasion effect rule "...it is neither defeated nor undefeated, and the encounter is over." Hence, I feel like I should banish the ship, but it's technically not defeated, so now I'm confused what should happen with the barrier. The ship was not defeated nor is the ship present anymore (since I'm suppose to banish it), so does that mean I should summon another random ship for the next character or is the barrier defeated? Or should the ship NOT be banished and hang out for the next character?

Can anyone clear this up for me? Perhaps walk through possible situations?

Love the game (even if I have to spend some time on the forums getting clarification on rules),

When you summon a random ship, you draw randomly from any ship in the box. That will usually mean every ship with an adventure deck number equal to the scenario you are playing, except the ship that is currently your ship.

This FAQ answers your question about what happens if you evade the ship. You set Pirate Hunting faceup on the location deck, and put that ship you summoned next to it. You do NOT banish the ship. The first time you explore each turn, you encounter that same ship until you manage to defeat that ship.

Thanks for the reply and the clean answer to both questions.
