How often are Scenarios released? Sheduling question.

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to plan out this year's Pathfinder Society tables. I've created a calendar and spreadsheet, but I don't know how often scenarios are released.

Is there a schedule that is commonly used by Paizo (that is, are new scenarios released every two weeks, every month? Every second Tuesday?)

If anyone can help me with this, it will make my scheduling a lot easier.

Thanks.

Two scenarios a month, excluding some outlier months like this August, thanks to Gencon. Scenarios generally come out either at the end of the month or on the 16th or 15th.

Thank you. This is very helpful.

Much appreciated.

One additional question.

I was looking over the pattern of how scenarios are released by tier.

Why does Paizo release games in what appears to be a haphazard fashion? That is, why not release scenarios in order of tier in order to create a "campaign" feeling?

In short: what is the rationale behind the current "haphazard" tier-pattern?

What am I missing here?

You are missing that people are all over the levels.

I try desperately to play characters from level 1 to 12 in sequence. I find I hardly can ever do so.

Thanks for this and, fair point.

Just spit-balling now. What if the model was changed to allow for level 1-12 advancement by releasing scenarios in tiers that overlapped?
So release two 1-5 followed by a 3-7 next? Etc.

Anyway, Paizo knows what they're doing. I just find the hopping around between scenarios/seasons in order to level-up very distracting and a discouragement to verisimilitude.

I also like the idea of creating a "season 8" character and running it from start to finish. With say, 24 scenarios released a year, a character could likely use a combination of normal and slow-track to play them all. :) That would be pretty darn satisfying.

You want a decent flow of tier 1-5 games, so that if you're organising a game day, you can put on the latest stuff, but still have a low level table that newbies can jump into.

It's also a question of scheduling the authours and concepts - certain scenarios are of certain levels, certain authours feel comfortable at different levels. I'd suspect there's also developmental pressures that are balanced better by this spread of scenarios

There's also the fact that newer scenario series try to stay at the same tier, but cannot be spaced to far apart in the year.

And the fact that some concepts just wouldn't work at certain tiers, but tie into that years overarching plot.

It must be said that a lot of earlier stuff doesn't in fact tie into that particular season that much, and can easily be part of a cohesive story for a group of characters that start during this season.

The official release date for every month (except the month GenCon falls in) is the last Wednesday of the month. Usually it is two scenarios, though there have been a few cases where three were released.

In GenCon month (August this year) the scenarios are released at GenCon and NOT on the last Wednesday. So 8-01, 8-02, and 8-03 have been released already. There will be no more scenarios released in August; the next release date is September 28th.

The idea you suggest here would make a season more like an AP. The trouble is that PFS is designed to let parties mix-and-match, and you don't even necessarily play the same character from one week to the next. I would hate to have to shelf my 10th level characters from August until March just because that is when new 7-11 scenarios come out.
