Question on content for WOTR Card game vs RPG, more characters?

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

OK, these are some questions from a humble nube, so I appreciate any help, guidance out there to help me sort out a few things. I have purchased the big cool box, the Wrath of the Righteous Adventure Card Game, and I'm looking at all of the various accessories that go along with that Adventure Path. But I am unsure of what accessories are intended to work with the WOTR Card game versos WOTR Role play game. For example, "Sword of Valor". Clearly the "Sword of Valor" Card pack 2 goes with my game, but do I also need (or might find very useful) the module "Sword of Valor" #74? Or is that paperback book only really needed by role playing groups, not Adventure Card groups? I just wansnt sure what components are meant strictly (or only) for use and needed by the Card game vs the Role playing.

One other question: On Adventure Card game characters, the set comes with 7 characters, and the add-on deck provides 4 more, but that still feels limited. Is there any other available characters to use? Can character decks from other games (like Rise of Runelords) be used with Wrath of the Righteous? Would just be nice to have more options available for my group.

Thanks for any help or advice. Love the quality and ART, in Pathfinder products!!

Yes, anything on this page is for the Pathfinder RPG, not the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game (PACG). :-)

I flagged this to get moved to the card game forum, where you will likely get lots of answers. But basically...

You do not need the Wrath of the Righteous modules to play the Adventure Card Game. If you are dying to know more details about the story, they can be fun to read, but if you have no interest in the RPG, you don't need them even a little bit. You will need the Wrath of the Righteous Base set and then card packs 2-6 to complete the adventure.

As for characters, a good place to look for more is the class decks. There are class decks for each of the core classes, plus the oracle, and each contains a new version of the iconic character (so Kyra in your box is different from Kyra in the Cleric Class Deck) along with 2-3 other characters. The class decks also contain boons that are good for the characters in that deck that you may want to add to your base set.

There are also 11 different characters in each of the other sets (Rise of the Runelords and Skull & Shackles) and their character add on decks. Some of these are duplicate characters (You'll see another Kyra in RotR!), but their mechanics are completely different. Also, in some cases, you may want to add some boons from the other sets to your Wrath of the Righteous box. For example, Lirianne the gunslinger will probably want some guns from Skull & Shackles.

Hope that is helpful! Good luck!

You can review all the characters for PACG by downloading the character sheets. In fact, you can use these sheets to play any of the characters.

With the caveat that some characters benefit from card types you may not have in your base set. There's a character in Skull & Shackles that uses guns, so if your set doesn't have guns, you're missing out.

As far as story goes, all three PACG titles have Adventure Guides you can download from the Community Use Registry. There's also guides for the heroes full backstories (the game has abbreviated versions) and a guide providing info on the deities in the Blessing Deck.
