Whew! Just finished a transcription of a really long conference speech about how to do and evaluate science. Incredibly interesting! I learned about Bayesian analysis, Thomas Kuhn's philosophy of science, and all sorts of information on evaluating the validity of scientific studies. I feel like a fraud for turning in an invoice for this work, I learned so much.
But I'm sending an invoice anyway.

I like to think my own history education was pretty decent in highschool (5th through 12th grade actually), but that was a private school.
Catholic? The nuns know their bidness.
As for history ... I had good teachers. I don't want to make it seem like there was no teaching going on. It was just more aimed at American history, or Western European history. We just didn't get to Central Europe and Russia, at least pre-Napoleon era. Africa was skipped, as was a lot of Asia. We covered a lot of British history, some French, Central and South America. We covered the 20th Century quite extensively in a global fashion, especially post WWII geopolitics

Holy Roman Empire... Central Europe... Uhhh... *shakes in shock*
The primary competitor to Kingdom Of France and, under Habsburgs, surrounding France from all the sides?
Development of Reformation. Thirty Years War.
I think you meant "Central To The European History". It's quite impossible to teach anything about Western European history in X-XVII without focusing on Holy Roman Empire extensively...

Inspired by an encounter in Rift's Hammerknell Fortress instance, where quest that involved burning forbidden books was followed by fight with a fire elemental boss.

I have no work scheduled for this morning. So, I will do some billing, drop off the CDs that I transcribed, possibly pick up some new work, definitely pick up some checks. Then I will come home and work on some game publishing material. This evening, it's the nanny job.
See Patrick? You're not the only one with a hodgepodge of support endeavors. ;)

Oh one of the bands I went to see last week Bryde are popping over to America for a couple of gigs. Apparently their gigs at Sofar Sounds & the Rockwood Music Hall are free.

Oh I know everyone is busy these days. I get that.
I got released at 11am. My spot landscaping guy wanted me to help him, which I originally agreed to do. Then the bus company called with a need for me this afternoon. So, I had to tell my landscaping friend sorry. Now on to bus training.
I have my PbPs lagging. I wish I had the energy to get them moving

I should be getting a jury summons in July. I deferred the one I got in February. I am neutral on the question. I just don't want to get tied up for a long time.
That was my concern as well. Fortunately my employment as a security guard seemed to be the thing they were squiffy about. Mayhap a bit too close to law enforcement? Who knows

Not nuns. Brothers. I guess kind of the male version of nuns. They ran the school and did some teaching.

For me, they're always put off by the whole "victim of a violent crime" thing.

Oh lovely, my employer's parent company has gone into reconstruction. (And the first I hear of it is a news-notice on telly-text!!)
That doesn't sound good. Is that like debt restructuring or a bailout?

Well, my landscaping buddy isn't pleased. The bus company wants me filling in all this week. But, he did acknowledge that I was just a fillin, I never told him I was all his. I'll help him out when I can, but i need to give priority to my two actual jobs. Then, the bus company wasn't pleased when I told them I was already working Thursday and Friday. But, again, I told them from the outset I had a job. They just thought they could throw all sorts of hours at me and I'd be perfectly free.

Or being involved in possibility of use of some force in your work.
Or possible bias against certain types of crimes/infractions.
Weren't they concerned about you taking paralegal training?

Monks? Not all monks are monastic eremite orders. Lots of them organize schools.

I had both! My Latin teacher was a really soft-spoken, reverent brother with a not-so-secret love for Def Leppard and a wicked temper. He threw a desk out a second story window, so they moved his classroom to the basement. I miss that guy.

And also possibly John.
I see what you did there.
There's good tied up and bad tied up.

In my case Christian Brothers, which are not the same thing as monks.

And also possibly John.
I was on the jury for a rather vicious murder about a year or two ago. It did not go well. We figured the accused was guilty. Unfortunately, reasonable doubt existed in relation to the evidence. We could place him at the scene, but could not put the gun in his hand. Ballistic tests were inconclusive, and none of the witnesses called to show he had the weapon in his possession were trustworthy. We had to let him walk.
“Better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer.” -Sir William Blackstone.
Doesn't mean we didn't find it frustrating.

Likely, likely, and no. In fact, the judge who was presiding said that he had served on several juries himself. Legal training is no longer an automatic disqualification

Heh,
One High School teacher I knew about got called to Jury Duty.During the Jury Interview the lawyer asked her what her job was. She replied "High School Speech Teacher'.
The lawyer laughed and said, "I suppose around you I had better watch my Grammar!"
She replied, "Actually, I teach Theater. Around me you'd better watch your acting."
She was dismissed.

I feel it's incumbent upon thoughtful, intelligent people to sit on juries if they are able. It's the only thing that can make the jury system successful. Because rational people are desperately needed to balance out the jurors who believe things like, say, "If a woman cheats on her husband, she would certainly kill him. She's guilty." Not that I ever heard that said 30 seconds into deliberation or anything. *headdesk*
