I like the show, young Bruch was okay but is now getting annoying. I love Penguin and Bullock.

Oi,... Don't get me started,...

Yeah, too late, ;P

This has been 'The Year of the Breaky-Stuff'

So far, in the last 6 months or so,

-Garage door spring broke, (Almost crushing my son, who was about to do his Indiana Jones imitation under it. Thank God he didn't) Still haven't had money /time to fix that,

-Bought a new Dishwasher (Old one died)

-Bought new Clothes Washer and Dryer (Old ones died)

-Repaired my electric oven myself, (No WAY could I afford to fork out $$$ for new one of THOSE!)

-Repaired my home AC (Replaced the fan motor, RIGHT before it would have caused the Compressor to go out, which would have required an entirely new AC unit)

-And now, NOW?!? My refrigerator(freezer) is dying. I have fiddled, and cleaned and prayed,... it keeps looking like it's going to be ok, then defrosts all the ice cubes again. Then refreezes, then stops freezing,...

Call me Pharaoh, cuz I'm deep in 'Denial', I KNOW I'm going to need to buy a new one, but THIS one is only 7-1/2 years old dangnabbit! :/

So basically all of the meat I have purchased (on sale) and frozen is in danger, so on the plus side, I'm having a great time grilling for almost every meal! ;P

Supposedly I have an HVAC guy enroute. We'll see.

Times Square isn't what I'm really into. I'd rather see some off-the-beaten-path things, maybe take a stroll in Central Park, things of that nature

Good luck!

I got VERY lucky, called in a guy who showed up in time to let me know that if I turned OFF my AC he could save it, (Replaced the blower fan motor) but if I had kept running it (What? It was HOT!) without the fan blowing properly, the compressor was freezing up and would have blown, resulting in having to replace the entire AC unit.

Yeah, best service call I ever made! ;P

I've only been to NYC once, but I had a great time.

(Was with my mother and aunt, so didn't get to go to pubs/drinking or anything) I got to see a few shows, go to a few museums, walk/subway the city, etc. Was fun.

I did enjoy the brief foray I made into Central park, but was later mad at myself for not making sure I saw the castle. :(

One day I would like to go and hang out for a weekend with some of you guys, I think I would have a blast! (But as it is a VERY long drive from south Louisiana, it not happening anytime soon) ;P

New Orleans, Hereafter referred to as 'The Big Easy', (or as I prefer to pronounce it, 'The Big Sleazy') Does have some fun and interesting sites to visit, particularly if you have any interest in history. Or drinking. ;P

Yes, you got VERY lucky!

They just don't make stuff like they used to. (You know, that can be repaired instead of having to be replaced when it has problems)

Don't worry. When I go back to New Orleans, I will make sure you know in advance. After all, it will give you enough time to set the traps and claymore mines. I will be trying to head back during the summer of 2017.

edit - It would be no problem if it were just me, but with 2 dogs and 7 cats, someone has to stay here and hold down the fort. Plus the wife has the family there, so she gets first dibs on going down there.

So pro-tip.

If you live in a state that requires state taxes but work in a state that doesn't, and thus don't get your state taxes withdrawn automatically from each paycheck, make sure you set some money aside from each check so that when tax time comes you're not stuck with one huge lump sum that it's impossible to pay off all at once.

Because that's the situation I'm in. I live in Georgia but work in Tennessee, and my Georgia taxes came up to a ridiculous amount that there's no way on heaven or earth I could scrape up enough cash for by Monday. I'm going to have to call them sometime and work some kind of payment plan out.

As if it wasn't bad enough that my federal taxes skyrocketed this year....

Heheh, Sounds about right. ;)

My father-in-law still lives in Kenner. (Right in the landing path for the airport) My wife (and I, and our kids) still go visit him regularly. But after Katrina I wasn't moving back into the bowl surrounded by water. ;P

J'aime le fromage ! Je suis très stupide!

Cheese and pasta are one of Nature's great combos, DSXMachina. Never feel beholden to tradition. If we always hewed to ancient eating customs we'd still be eating half-rotten fruit and scavenged carrion.

When i come visit Rags, I'd love to visit the big cemetery there. The one with the above-ground mausoleums. Anything historical is good as well. The D-Day Museum is right up my alley.

For me, I am thinking a more autumnal entrance. One, I don't like the thought of Louisiana in the summer. Two, assuming I have a new job it will be easier to get time off in an off-season time

A pity I didn't know any of you were from New Orleans. My father works for FEMA and I could have tagged along on one of his numerous trips and met people.

It'll be great.

Come visit me, is only "a bit" further south! :D

There are several big cemeteries here (Although I know the one you and everyone else is thinking about) But some are much more impressive than others. And safer to visit, day or night. ;P

And even the 'small' ones are all technically 'above ground' mausoleums, as it is illegal to bury anyone below ground level here where the water table is frequently above street level! :)

My wife's family has a small plot, and it is open top (Looks like a plot of ground with a small wall around it) but it is actually a completely encased (sides and below) mausoleum. Just doesn't have the fancy top on it. ;)

Of course like 5 plots over is a one that looks like a small castle. ;P

The really big one your thinking of is very cool, like a miniature city.

Patrick Curtin wrote:

Yes, Lousy-anna in the summertime is simply,... Lousy!

We have 100% humidity here. And THAT's on the GOOD days! ;P

Autumn works. Early semester the shows aren't all booked solid, as no one has started rehearsals yet! ;P So August, September, I can work with that.

So;
Big Cemetery? Check.

D-Day Museum? Check.

May I suggest the Aquarium? Last I checked even after the Katrina debacle it was still considered one of the top 5 in the nation?

I shall do my research, (As I never really was a 'partyer' in my mis-spent youth) and make sure we end your trip with a proper visit to the French Quarter. LOTS of history, Hauntings, and drinking to be had!
Some places have all of the above! ;)

Example- The original Wooden structure that was both a blacksmith's shop, AND Jean Lafitte's hideout when he was in port? It somehow survived the major fire(s) that decimated the rest of the Quarter. Yep. It's a bar now. ;)

May I recommend Wisconsin.

It's the place where it's optimal to visit in the summer, plus we live in Madison, the one place that's optimal to visit any time. :-)

I have been meaning to visit Wisconsin for several years now as I originally wrote a report on there as a kid and I wanted to visit there for...ah..shall we say more carnal reasons due to internet rumors as a young man(and at least one family guy ep). I am married now so the more salacious reasons will have to be shelved for the moment, but as I like cows and cheese and milk even now, it may be a great idea to visit for those alone.

And oh yeah, that captain yesterday guy.

Belief is truly a powerful force.

I'm not talking belief in a higher being, although that is a subset of it. I am talking about the very strange way that if you believe hard enough you can seem to make reality bend.

Case in point: I am headed to NYC. I have also been having issues with finding spare cash. Even though my finances looked bleak, I believed that I would find a way to make it happen.

And Lo, I suddenly discovered there was a market for my disused PFO accounts. I just sold them for enough to finance my run to NYC. #Winning.

In other news, it's almost 80F here today and we're due for 12"-18" of snow in two days.

I was almost able to go to New York back when that mini hurricane washed out all those roads, but they sent him to someplace boring like Oklahoma or some such place to work on tornado damage. And ther is nothing for me in a place with no real cities.
