11 years. Honestly I was hoping for just another year with it, and then I’d have to figure out something new. But this came at a bad time. But when does it not?I can sympathize. My own vehicle is 12 years old, and not in the best of shape to begin. This most recent project I was on gave me a longer commute, sitting in a s%@& ton of traffic, putting even more wear and tear. Sadly, however, I am currently nowhere near in a position to think about getting a new one.
Yeah I’m hoping for another year. Living in DC is expensive, and raise aside I don’t have a lot of extra money for a car payment. It’ll take at least two years for another promotion, I’m estimating

Hello, Fortsters! I hope everyone is having a good day!
Not great, to be brutally honest. I may have mentioned this before but I forget but I went to a pain specialist who put me on Lyrica 3 weeks. ago. For the last 2 weeks I've been in excruciating pain because of the side effects of a PAIN medicine that can cause lower back pain. I'm heckin' miserable. His office won't return my calls on how to properly wean myself off it so I'm about to start doing it myself.
To be honest I haven't checked the 'net yet. I've used an FB page called "Ask Conway" (the town I live in) for other folks' experiences with Lyrica. Nearly all of them had had adverse effects. So yeah, now I'm going to the Web.
EDIT: Well, the withdrawal effects sound wonderful (can you smell the sarcasm?). But if they get rid of the debilitating back pain I'm having it will be worth it.

Also I too have an old car that looks like it's going to be heading to the great trash place in the sky...or at least it's not getting the 4-6 thousand dollars I'd have to do in body work to get it to pass inspection here in West Virginia...
They got rid of vehicle inspections here in Arkansas several years ago. I know it's been a mixed bag of results but it's helped to keep my vehicle on the road until it finally died.
And thus a new week dawns.

Oklahoma did away with vehicle inspections a few years ago.
Which causes me no end of confusion when I go through a checkpoint here in Lousy-anna, cuz my car has an OK tag. ;P
(Yes I know, I'm supposed to switch it over to the state I live in, but they CHARGE you a hefty % of your cars supposed value for that! Fergetabouttit!) ;P
So far so good with our current vehicles. (Knocks on wood) the usual multiple minor shenanigans, broken door handles, dying CD players etc.
The costs to repair all add up, but nothing that will prevent the cars from actually running so far. (Knocks on wood again)
My previous vehicle, a tiny Nissan Frontier pick up, I literally drove until it wouldnt hardly drive anymore. After replacing the transmission once, repairing it again, and doing the usual attempted upkeep on it for (I lost track, almost 10 years?) it got to the point where it was running very rough when it did run, and did NOT like it when it rained! :)
Oi, lost track of time over the weekend, got to catch up on some PbP's!
This is my last week of sanity (IE= My last chance to actually get any paperwork done) before my insane Fall season starts for reals this weekend. ;P

My ex has a tiny Nissan Frontier. He has over 350k miles on it. It finally died this summer when a hole in the engine block appeared.

I owe over $9k in debt that went to collections. I have been paying $100 a month to pay it off. Every year for the past 3 years they stop taking my automatic payment and I have to fix it. I told them several times that once I can pay more, I will. Until then, keep everything as it is so I can worry about more important things.
That sounds familiar, but not just through Capital One- autopay kinda sucks in my experience because not only do the people involved help themselves to your account whenever they feel, but they also cease autopay without warning at times because of the program they use that usually assumes things are paid off my the anniversary date- even if they are not.

FHDM im glad you have had some luck with your finances. Sorry to hear your issues Sharoth. I have a crushing debt load as well , including a $200/mo student loan my ex wife defaulted on which I was co-signatory to. Never again.
My five-year goal is to become CC free. The student loan is a ten-year issue( im in forbearance now, so it’s actually getting bigger), once my raise kicks in I can see what I will be able to restructure.
Of course I also need to start aggressively job hunting. I like my job, but to climb the ladder I need to find the next GS level position. After next year a whole new level of opportunities open with my 2nd anniversary. Once I get to the 70-90K range I should be set until retirement.
Sheesh, 70-90K a year? Go Monkey!
I dream of ever getting that. :P
Not gonna happen on salary, was within the realm of distant possibility when I was hourly and working 80-100+ hours a week at times. :P

Damn. Crazy day. Doing a lot of catching up with some friends.
So on the news I held back on because I want to see how this went:
About this time yesterday, my mom got a Facebook posting about two puppies that had been given to a local woman to foster. She had gotten them from some other woman that thought they were too noisy and stuff. She was going to give them up to the pound but the other woman intervened. The foster family (which had another dog that didn't get along with the puppies) had a work friend caring for them but realistically, they needed a forever home.
Naturally Mom was like "I want this one!" (Mostly because they were both Border collie/Australian sheep dog mixes and one of them reminded her of our dog Malcolm. To give you idea, imagine your typical border collie only about 72-75...but this guy is WAY smaller. Barely 25 pounds.) So naturally I was like "if this is what you want Mom..." (Words I tend to regret later...)
We went to see the dogs last Saturday with Galway (my border collie/German Shepard mix that is...kind of a lemon dog because he's had some very bad experiences living on a farm that didn't treat him properly....), and while he did well with them, it was clear, the mottled colored one was more interested in playing with him than his brother. So naturally we said "We'll take this one." We had to wait as a friend of my brother's wanted to see them and take her pick.
So now, after about a week and one vet visit, I can officially say Rory Seitz is our new dog and Galway's newest friend. (Though I wish Mom wasn't going on her 2 and 1/2 week cruise on the Rhine this month...) So yeah. Rory is a great dog, even for a puppy. He might have energy, but really is a calm, laid back dog. He barely makes a mess (mostly pees in the house...but that's not THAT uncommon and it's not always on the rug...), he eats well (BOY does he eat well!) and is very quiet most of the other time. He enjoys chewing and the occasional bark, but honestly, Rory is WAY friendlier than Galway, and more willing to meet new people.
So..yeah.

Right now Cal, we're just trying to make sure Galway doesn't go overboard since he kind of plays rough. So far Rory has held his own a few times...but it's still requiring human refereeing.

The kitten Arya encountered a cricket in the living room, caught it, and ate it. I’ve never been such a proud papa.
However, her bravery has its limits. She was paralyzed with fear when she beheld the agitating action of the front-loader washing machine. I had to carry her out of the basement.
