Still very interested. This profile would most likely be my submission.

Definitely interested.
I've played part of a module online before, but the game died real quickly due to GM RL commitments.

Alright folks. So, Sans definitely needs someone to keep him on track. Sad to say, but he's got the attention span of a goblin at times. Add in the fact that part of his backstory is him getting sent in with a noble (or a bastard of nobility) and it should come as no surprise that I kind of need someone to team up with. Any takers for him that I can talk to?

If there's any "needs a buddy" type characters, we can figure out the relationships after the group is decided.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Another set of teasers! “It’s Good to be the King” and “The Kings of Dust.” The first is a bit of campaign management, the second is a bit of campaign world fluff.

It's Good to be the King. Not Everyone Can be the King.
One thing for people to consider is what Leadership Role your character would be applying for in your fledgling Kingdom. While it is good to be the King (really, check out some of those bonuses!) only one person can be the Ruler (with a second potentially a Consort.) When submissions are open, I’m going to be asking people to list their 2-3 top preferences for what Leadership role they would want. It might be fun to have the Leaders develop organically, but on the other hand, deciding the Leadership Roles is difficult enough with a home game that’s been together for years! I would also try to steer the group away from just appointing the sorcerer with 20 Charisma as their Ruler. (For some reason the WIS 8, INT, 8 Sorcerer with a pretty face often makes a poor leader.)

Kings of Dust
The uncharted wilds known as the Stolen lands hold an almost irresistible allure that ignites ambitions to build and rule. Something about this stretch of wilderness drives bandits to become Barons and makes Merchants trade empires of coin to become Emperors of man. Even the most monstrous of humanoids have been known to forge alliances and band together under the rule of brutal warlords. Yet, without fail, these fledgling nations are brought to ruin by internal power struggles or external foes eager to claim the region for themselves. The landscape of the Stolen Lands is dotted with crumbling reminders of fallen kingdoms as the unforgiving land reclaims the very wood and stone that was taken from it.

So often have parcels of the Stolen Lands changed hands that a name has been created for these doomed rulers: the Kings of Dust. This mocking insult serves as a grim warning of the true price paid by those whose ambitions have betrayed them: their lives, their land, their legacy. The enormity of their failure seems to devour even written works as historical records or maps of their kingdoms crumble and fade with alarming speed.

In fact, there are some that believe that the name "The Stolen Lands" may be a haunting reference to all that the Kings of Dust have had stolen from them over the course of centuries. If so, this may be the only legacy those nameless souls can claim…

Either General or Warden for Raven.

I've got several concepts brewing...just to settle on one and run with it.

Sans would probably fit best in as a Grand Diplomat or Councilor.

Is this serving as the honest-to-God recruitment thread now?

Desired Roles :

1 : Grand Diplomat (Obviously as Kerri is a Diplomat herself).
2 : Councilor (Kerri always tries to give the people what they need and want.
3 : Ruler (While not ideal for Kerri, she wouldn't refuse it if it was thrust upon her).

Fitting leadership roles for Vasilyan are already included in his profile :)

Grand Lodge

Definitely interested in this game... I've been dying to get into a Kingmaker game that gets past the first encounter.

I'll have to rejigger his abilities drastically, but Ozak Daggertooth was built for a Kingmaker game. He is meant to be a tough and wild mercenary with a very simple outlook on life though he is actually much smarter than he looks. Chosen Kingdom Role would be General.

Would you be willing to use the Background Skills rule from Pathfinder Unchained?

I'll be applying with this character, Lucius Baradain. He's built pretty close to the rules, but I'll make whatever adjustments as more information is released.

I'm actually kind of torn. I can't edit my first post to change relevant details when it's time for the actual recruitment to start. On the other hand, I suppose I could just put the final character creation guidelines and submission requirements in the "Campaign Info" tab when the time comes. I'm not sure what the usual etiquette is for this type of recruitment.

If I do have this thread morph into the actual recruitment, I am going to ask for some kind of "sign of life" from interested parties to weed out anyone that might have posted early on that's moved on. For now, I've sporadically looked at a couple of people's profiles that they've posted, but I've been spending ~2 hours a day posting for the PbP Gameday, so it's been mostly to see if there's any gaping holes in what I've posted so far.

I've been following this thread, but haven't worked on my character(s) yet. I'd appreciate a clear 'start' of the recruitment,in whatever form. You could do it with a post in this thread and the rules in the campaign info, but that might only been clear enough for people who are already following the thread. New readers might not realize that recruitment as started, if they come upon this thread and only read your initial post. Something to consider, maybe...

I'll go ahead and dot this. Maybe nothing will come of the dot, but we'll just have to see.

I have been following from the beginning and continuing to do so. To make it fair for all new interested parties, it would probably be best to create a new thread and then put a link in this thread to the new one.

I too have been following the thread. I have decided not to post anything because as stated, this isn't a recruitment thread. I have ideas sure, but I'd rather share them only when the Gm has started recruitment.

Re: Background Skills (and other optional rules): I've been debating the Background Skills. It's an interesting system that allows even 2 skill-point-per-level classes to have some Knowledge Nobility. I'll definitely have a decision one way or another before Recruitment opens. I probably won't be exploring alternate systems after a week or so from now, so the "Can I use the <x optional rules>" will probably be a "no" if they aren't brought up soon.

Re: Recruitment thread. Sounds like there's agreement that an extra thread is the way to go, which was my initial plan. I'll be posting that up December 1st.

On the plus side, my prep is coming along well and hopefully the teasers have been interesting. The three things I can think of that I need to still cover before the Open Recruitment are aging, alignment, and Æther (alliteration is fun), but if anyone has questions about the campaign or the like, feel free to ask.

I can't believe I've missed this until now. Kingmaker has been a bit of a white whale for me (Pbp and IRL) as games die quickly.

I love the direction this game seems to be heading and you can definitly expect a submission when the time comes.

I'm glad you decided to go with a separate recruitment thread, it'll be a lot easier in the end. Honestly, I'm kind of glad this one is progressing slowly. I find my characters only improve the more time I've had to percolate.

Not to mention it'll be a good indicator of things to come if you're providing steady feedback for nearly two months before the game itself starts, though I think your record here already speaks to your commitment.

I'm excited to hear more about the setting tweaks!

I'm working on a character idea for a caster (not decided on the type), who would go to the Stolen Lands specifically for its connection to the First World (or a similar cosmologic effect). I've love to read what you're planning for the Æther, so I can use that in further building the character.

Hey GM,

Thanks for hosting a game and this one sounds really interesting.

A couple of questions:

- how do you feel about unchained classes?;
- are summoners out or are you still considering them?;
- are all occult classes OK?; and
- what is the expected/desired posting rate (weekends?)?

Thanks!

Yeah, and also craft/profession skills and things like appraise. Things you want to put points in to fill out your background but can't always afford.

Background skills are cool and definitely help flesh out a character. I know I have 1 skill already that is a background skill (although at the moment I have it as normal). Not sure what I would put the spare 1 rank in though, I am sure I could find something if you decided to use them.

Agreed; I similarly included points in Knowledge Engineering and Profession (Solider) with this character as skills that flesh out his background, Lucius having been somebody who grew up in a military family.

I think the background system works well, particularly for those classes with precious few points to begin with. That being said, they can be removed without issue if that is what is decided for character generation.

Mine is in Profession (Chef). I know it is not a skill that will get used much in a campaign, but I feel it would be nice every night after a day of exploring, to eat a properly made meal instead of a Ration pack.

  • Unchained Barbarian, Monk, Rogue and Summoner are fine. I haven't really checked out Unchained other than that. If there's anything specific to look at, I can make a case by case decision.
  • APG Summoner is out unless you can make a good case for it. I'm not 100% in the "Summoners are OP" camp, but I've seen several different iterations that made the game un-fun to balance against.
  • Occult classes are ok. You might have to give a reasoning behind a few of them.
  • Re: Frequency of posting: Good question. The goal is about a post a day, though I understand that weekends slow down. This is going to be a marathon of a game rather than a sprint, so if two or more people are out for a weekend, we'll reconvene when people return. The most important thing is communication and keeping momentum.

  • Raven is still interested, for sure.

    Kingmaker Wolfspirit wrote:

  • Thanks for taking the time to answer.

    I was thinking of a dwarf geokineticist, whose power are believed to be from the spirit of the mountains themselves (just flavor).

    I'll of course prepare a full fluff (and stats), but my initial thoughts are as follow:

    - born and raised to be a miner for a Clan in the Golushkin Mountains;
    - in charge of opening new mining tunnels and mine safety (from collapses, avalanches, etc.);
    - has close ties to Garess Noble Family (probably worked on family's fortifications and/or mines);
    - is asked by the Garess to represent them in an expedition to the Stolen Lands;
    - is told that the Garess and/or his Clan had a mining claim in those lands (and were lost to XXX), which they would like to obtain back;
    - hot-headed, practical, not patient enough to do 'fine stone work'; and
    - 'stubborn as a rock and explosive like an avalanche'.

    Please let me know if any of the above would raise a red flag in your game.

    Thanks again,

    Fabian

    Fabian Benavente wrote:

    No red flags. The expedition is going to be technically "House Neutral", but if anyone has leanings to specific houses as part of backstory, that's perfectly fine.

    I will warn people that while Brevoy politics are ongoing in the background, they probably won't play as active as a role as they might in other campaigns. There will be a lot of political struggle inside the Stolen Lands / River Kingdoms, though!

    I'm interested as well. Long-time role player, lots of DM and player experience by post, and in for the long haul. No experience with Kingmaker, and Roleplaying is my love over gaming the mechanics.

    I'll look at the players guide and start thinking of character proposals.

    I'm rather torn. I've been hoping to play a low-wisdom (i.e. <10) shapeshifter druid, relying entirely on high physical stats and the odd wand... but based on the pace of most AP games and the level range such a PC is likely to never reach the level range that large wild shape kicks into gear. (Barbarian levels or maybe an Unchained Monk dip along with the Shaping Focus feat would probably be par for the course here.)

    This seems like a fantastic game to play a druid, whether a funky off-build or otherwise, and I've never actually seen one at a table for my entire gaming career. (Yeah. Go figure.)

    So expect a PC with natural/first world ties from me once the thread crops up. The Bleaching is so damned interesting, so perhaps a gnome.

    Thanks for your prompt response.

    I was considering the idea of going with either the 'pioneer' or 'noble scion' campaign trait. I decided to go 'noble' so House Garess seemed the most logical choice, but I could go 'pioneer' and ditch the noble house altogether.

    If selected to play, I'm sure we'll come to some sort of agreement.

    Thanks again and, given that there are no red flags, I'll start to slowly work on my character then.

    Game on!

    Do we have to have a campaign trait?

    please consider this as my initial poke into interest to play this. I will be making a character for this because I have never played it and my group played it a while back while I was deployed overseas. The type of character is yet to be decided but will be posted shortly

    Silver Crusade

    dotting to register interest been following for a while

    Raven Sirkas wrote:

    My plan for traits is:

  • 2 traits. One may be a Campaign Trait from Kingmaker (no other APs)
  • No drawbacks.

  • I know this technically isn't allowed by PFS, but... for my other character, can I combine the Empiricist and Psychic Detective archetypes for the investigator?

    Seems like this will become another 30+ submissions recruitment :D

    The Doomkitten wrote:

    I would say that for initial submissions to not use illegal archetype breaking overlaps. I might investigate (no pun intended?) allowing things like that for the final team, but for now it'll save me from having to handle a bunch of one off answers.

    Also, it's not like archetypes tend to hit a lot at level 1 anyway.

    Ah, in that case I shall have to remove the Drawback and one of Kerri's Traits. I shall get on that shortly.

    This will be Thron's submission: a Reincarnated Druid. Will offer more details as I develop her, but as far as leadership roles go:

    Councilor, High Priest, or even Marshal

    Silver Crusade

    ha! I'll submit my dude that was in Throns shortlived Kingmaker game...

    I'll just fix him a bit.

    Silver Crusade

    I have interest in playing in this -

    High Priest - Marshal - or Treasurer probably fits his leadership roles best

    Raven might even go for Royal Enforcer.

    Contributor

    Dot for interest.

    Still here, been loving the teasers so far. Waiting until actual character creation rules are put down until I make a character through.

    Ker-DOT!

    I'm in the same boat. Still very much interested and checking in daily. Just want to wait till the proper recruitment to really sink my teeth into my submission.
