Seems there's next to zero chance of ever getting a Laori Vaus mini :(

What about a Laori Vaus mini?

Almost certainly not.

Art is subjective, and all, and I don't mean any offense to the folks involved, but the illustrations of this character we have published have been among my absolute least favorite renditions of any character in a Pathfinder book.

So unless we had some reason to re-illustrate her, and unless that illustration took a decidedly different approach than "cute girl in a razor-blade catsuit," there is a precisely 0% chance that I would want to make a mini of her.

Sorry!

Link.

This is rather unfortunate. I know Laori has been a huge fan favorite NPC for this AP and it's rather sad she'll never get made into an official mini.

I was disappointed too, although I might make a different case to him at some point. One of the things I want to see in the Battles line is more minis with odd weapons - starknives, spiked chains, bladed scarves, etc. The other thing is AP-specific minis. So, obviously it's something I want to see as well. ^_^

(I agree with him that the art of Laori is terrible, though. The best one is the piece from Escape From Old Korvosa, which says a lot about the other two.)

Having just done a Google Image search for Laori Vaus, I've gotta agree on that art...

Perhaps the best way to get a mini, then, would be to campaign for Laori to make a return in a module, or comic, or something to that effect. Basically, get them to use her again in a way that would force them to order new art for her.

I'd support that.

Or get them to do an an anniversary edition of Curse of crimson throne (Since they did update some of the art for the runelords one if I recall.)

James Jacobs has been asked about this on multiple times and he's said they'd probably never do another anniversary edition. Runelords was a special case because it was "the first". However, he said if they were to do one, he'd want to do Second Darkness because there were a lot of problems with that one, especially with the depiction of the elves.

Yeah I know just putting it out as a solution (however unlikely) Other option which I suggested in the in that thread is make a model that just so happens could be used to represent Laori

Yeah, I've been debating with myself on whether or not I want to use Hero Forge to order a custom model for Laori. I haven't really looked into it at all though, not even sure if it's possible with them yet.

...

Aw hell, gonna go look into it now.

[Edit] Hmm... I dunno. (not sure if this link will work for you guys)

You can make a smiling female elf in a chain shirt (but no chain pants or anything like that) wielding spiked chain, but not as it's been commonly depicted. Seems more like a chain whip with a blade attach, than anything else.

I guess it would work as one, though. It's not entirely satisfying however.

I've used one of these for her in the past. Still not ideal, though...

Yeah, I agree, I want a mini too. She was one of our favorite characters in that AP (we certainly hated and dismissed the rest of what we referred to as the Boner Squad that got sent along with us).

It's exactly because she is anime-cute and no one else in the world is that it's notable! She was so perky we just couldn't help but befriend her. Most NPCs tend to be considered as tools or meat for the beast, it's unfortunate for them to kick against one who was actually interesting, there's whole APs where not anyone is interesting. (Finishing up Wrath of the Righteous now...)

On the other hand, she is an elf (or was it half-elf?) and there was mention of more elves being needed in the mini's line. ;)

She is an elf, a forlorn as far as I remember. The necromantic harlequin was iirc a forlorn elf as well.

The Shaman is correct.

In other news... even if there's no chance of a Laori mini (sad face), I can still lobby for the Shadowcount and Asyra to get theirs. ^_^

I've always liked the picture of her with the Brotherhood of Bones which was depicted in Faiths of Corruption, which I found an image of here. Wonderfully enough, Faiths of Corruption also features one of my favorite pictures of Nualia on the cover too.

I never liked that art of her, personally, although it's probably the most accurate. The closest to acceptable I ever found was the Escape From Old Korvosa art - which doesn't even look like proper Pathfinder art.

By contrast, it's probably the best art of the other two. I suggested it for the minis over in Mr. Mona's Ask Thread.

(As for Laori herself... my plan for my campaigns is for her to use glamered armor to do more of a gothy bard thing.)

Someone should start a "let Lauri Vaus solve all your problems here" thread.

Actually, you could probably do an approximation with some 40k miniatures, but it is likely to be quite costly. Dark eldar kabalites have the sort of armor I can see Laori using as a pseudo-breastplate or field plate - honestly, in the fluff it is even described as having hooks on the inside so it can induce pain and hasten their reflexes - while their wyches have something called razorflail that is pretty close to a spiked chain. Sadly, the wyches themselves are usually using little or nor armor (as in, actual armor, not something more suited for a wrestling entrance or bedroom roleplaying) so you may need to do some kitbashing. I would probably use one of the miniatures here as a start or at least for the weapons(the third pic) and the heads are... not ideal unless you want to make Laori quite savage in her outlook. This works best if you happen to have a friend in the hobby who might be willing to buy a box of models anyway, especially if s/he has some experience mixing and matching details.

The Shaman, I was in fact thinking of kitbashing her out of Dark Eldar (partly because I have a few lying around from building a Dark Elf Blood Bowl team).

Kabalite armor is too heavy, Laori is in razor chain mail. I think that could work with the Wyches armor, just paint the skin bits as a tight chainmail color and add spikes. If anything, the Wyches are too heavily armored (they basically have half plate on one side and cloth on the other). I can also warn you that the life support backpacks (and some grenades and stuff) are attached to the torso segment - it's a lot of work and a non trivial amount of putty to get rid of that. Worse, the Kabalites (and some of the Wyches) have a detachable "butt" section between the torso and legs, with more grenades and a hand weapon attached. It doesn't really look "fantasy" at all.

Just in case anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about, Wyches look like this:
http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammer40k/images/4/47/Wych_Squad.jpg

The Razorflail could work as a spiked chain, with some work. It looks like this:
http://megabitzshop.com/bilder/produkte/gross/Warhammer-40k-Bitz-Dark-Eldar -Hagashin-Waffe-G-Klingenpeitsche_b2.jpg

there are two in the box, and you'd want to use both to turn it into a two handed weapon.

"Someone should start a "let Lauri Vaus solve all your problems here" thread."

I am somewhat dreading this, my party is about to start Escape from Old Korvosa soon, and I have no idea how they will react to her. Probably not kill her, but they might try to arrest her and/or refuse to work with her. Or make her solve all problems. Who knows?
