Can swashbucklers use swordmaster's flair items and slashing grace

Rules Questions

Silver Crusade

The Swordmaster's Flare magic items were specifically designed with the swashbuckler in mind as they require panache and were in the Advanced classes manual. However with the changes to the feat slashing grace that requires that off hand be free it look like they are no longer usable by a typical swashbuckler who will have slashing grace(or fencing grace).

There was some discussion of this in the errata thread. I think there was a ruling that they "didn't count".

The Concordance

The FAQ for the Advanced Class Guide explicitly allows the Swordmaster's Flair items with Slashing Grace. You are good to go!

ACG FAQ wrote:
Slashing Grace does not allow most shields, but bucklers work because they don’t occupy the hand. Flurry of blows, brawler’s flurry, two-weapon fighting, and spell combat all don’t work with Slashing Grace. Attacking with natural weapons beyond the weapon you chose for Slashing Grace also does not work. Slashing Grace only works with melee attacks, not thrown attacks with a melee weapon. Swordmaster’s flair should have a sentence added to it that says “Carrying a swordmaster’s flair counts as having that hand free for the purpose of abilities that require a free hand, though you still can’t hold another object in that hand.”

There we are! I knew they fixed it shortly after. ^_^

(I'm of the opinion that a lot of the changes made in the Errata were unnecessary, but at least they cleaned up some of that stuff in short order.)

Thank for the clarification.
