The brothel to dance hall thing

Are there still "explicit" materials released by Paizo that cover the subjects of "dance halls" and Calistra, or ways to "opt out" of the sanitizing James?

Great now i will always think about the special kind of "dancing" if somenone says he will go to the dance hall.

And it is always funny that you can show someone get ripped apart but any sign of nudity will cause a scandal.

I think inherently violence is "meant" to be shared. You go to war with thousands of other warriors. Lay waste to your enemies in broad daylight and leave the corpses for the survivors to clean up.

Sex/nudity is inherently an intimate act, and short of orgies meant to be shared with just one other person.

I think this mainly explains why people have no issue with violence but sexuality puts them up at arms.

There are. For example, the final Hell's Rebels adventure, which I'm working on right now, has some pretty R-rated content in it, particularly at the end.

I'm not sure what you mean by "opting out" though.

I would think "opting out" could simply be replacing dance hall with brothel when you see it...

I mean like the difference between buying "clean" versions of CD's(PDFs/books in this case) versus "explicit/unrated", perhaps gating any unrated material behind age filters.

That seems fair enough.

Interesting theory, except if this were about inherent traits of violence and sexuality then you would expect to see very similar reactions across cultures. As this thread demonstrates, that's not the case.

Oh.

That's not really an option. The books are complex enough as it stands to produce without us producing multiple different versions like that.

I'd be lying if changes like that didn't irk me. If it was that way all along I never would've cared, but the fact that it was altered in what appears to be a sanitation effort doesn't sit well.

I really want to argue with you, but this is not the place.

I meant on books/PDF's specific about said content, like Calistra or brothels.

Great...the 1st AP I consider getting a complete set of and now this. Rather disappointing. Not demanding any changes, just expressing disappointment. I will have to get a look at it before I decide whether to complete the set.

Biggest brothel? Are you talking about Pascha? One of my co-workers had her birthday party there at the strip club portion and was SUPER pissed they wouldn't let her upstairs.

Yup, that one!

And here we have a good example of why GMs are so important, because while we CAN NOT make an adventure that will please everyone, each GM can make one to please his/her group.

That said, the final part of this adventure path...

Spoiler:
...does take place in Hell, and I'm not gonna "satanize" that.

That helps...and makes sense.

Just something I have noticed that is starting to crop up, the favorite hang out of adventurers everywhere, the brothel is changing into the dancehall. Ultimate Campaign and Hell's Rebels(three legged devil) feature places where PCs can have a nice relaxing square dance after a delve. So are the Prophets of Kalistrade infiltrating areas and having people to the Polka instead of the Horizontal Mambo?

I must be weird or something.

I've been doing the D&D (and now Pathfinder) thing since 1978.

I've never played in a group where a brothel was the "favorite hangout" for the characters. Honestly, I can only recall one or two times where a player ever even mentioned his character wanting to go to one.

Yeah, taverns are the traditional hangouts. Though there are brothels that crop up now and again. There was one run by the Calistrian Church in a PFS module.

:(

Just kiddin' around! :D I do that enough that I know how easily it happens, plus your actual joke was based off of a slight misspelling...

Slick!

To ba fair , this is quite true , i never had any PC that went to one out of the blue and neither did i see others doing it also. Usually the GM must say it is there and then people might take an interest , nobody really seeks it out.

Still i usually assume they are around at most cities in the games i play.

At least, that seems more in line with the company's recent actions, such as changing Erastil from "good-aligned god of traditional values" to "good-aligned god of families, regardless of their makeup," and Asmodeus from "God of Hell" to "God of Hell and The Patriarchy."

Wut

Glad it's not just me. From the tenor of the original post, I started to wonder if I had been doing this wrong all these years.
