In 1-1D: Crusaders Assemble, do the players actually gain the cards in the boon pile at the end of the scenario?
When you acquire a boon from a location deck, put it facedownin a boon pile next to the scenario. When you defeat a Corrupted Soldier henchman, draw a random armor or weapon from the box and put it in the boon pile. When you fail to permanently close a location or defeat a henchman, banish a random card from the boon pile; if the boon pile is empty, instead banish the top card of the blessings deck.
Each character may choose one of the boons in the boon pile and use it as a bonus deck upgrade.
As written, it seems that the only cards available for characters' regular deck upgrade are the armour(s) and item you draw on closing the Guardpost(s) and Labratory. And you can only pick one of the boon pile cards as your "bonus deck upgrade."
Is this as intended? Or should the scenario reward include gaining the cards in the boon pile?
Thanks!

Apparently all the cards are available for both your regular upgrade and your bonus upgrade. We played this incorrectly at a recent outing, and I should have known better.

Seems clear, thanks. There's no reason to doubt zeroth's report on the matter, and it doesn't get much more official than the dev showing you what's what. Though I'm surprised there's been no written confirmation from Tanis or a revision to the scenario.

It is also worth noting that if you acquire insufficient cards for everyone to get an upgrade, you roll on the plunder table (with 6 as a blessing) to determine what the other possible upgrades are.
Indeed. But I don't think that can actually happen during this particular scenario:
- You set up a Guardpost for each character.- You draw an armour every time you close a Guardpost.
- You have to close all the Guardposts to summon the Laboratory.
- You draw an item when you close the Lab, which happens when you beat the villain.
So even if the party did not gain the boon pile, there would always be (characters+1) cards to choose from at the end of this scenario. Which is great, unless the party happens to be full of armour-eschewing spellcasters...

When we played this scenario, we didn't play it incorrectly so I'm not sure it needs a revision and hearing Tanis's answer relayed should be enough. If we interpreted what she said incorrectly, then I'd hope for a reply.

If you clicked on the favorite link you'll notice that my post got favorited by Tanis, which is pretty good confirmation.
We'll probably see an official revision at some point although there is a huge backlog of stuff... Updating the S0 scenarios, getting new SotR scenarios out, testing the class decks...

There are ways to get boons that don't come from location decks as well - Temptation cards, for example. But yeah, generally you're getting a whole stack of armors.
Edit: Temptation cards in general seem to be a lot more tempting in OP than in a home game - "None of these cards work for me" "Yeah but one of them is a 2! Take it!" (This happened to me at Gen Con)

Sounds like a feature to me :)
I have Charm Animal on my Lini that I use for OP because it's great for another shot at a boon. OP does present some interesting wrinkles in the system.

Well we won the scenario, and got the 2 boon(a weapon I think?) so it worked out pretty well.
Yeah, all the "bury this card to draw a random X from the box" cards are much nicer in OP.
