Which AP is ideal for introducing Occult Adventures

Pathfinder Adventure Path General Discussion

Partially a curiosity question, but with the release of Occult Adventures, it seems like a good time to ask which one others feel would work best :-)

I guess personally, Reign of Winter, Curse of the Crimson Throne and Rise of the Runelords.

I'm curious how Wrath of the Righteous would work out and if using it in conjunction with Mythic Adventures would cause a crossing the streams type situation:-D

Mummy's Mask works really well. The cross of ancient Egpytian exploration with the themes of the 19th century occult ... the two go together wonderfully.

Mummy's Mask would work great, I think it'd go really well in Serpent's Skull as well.

I plan to have plenty of Occult stuff in Iron Gods, and switch up the rules for Dreamworld battles to be Virtual Reality based instead.

I like that, I will do that also :-)

I would try to throw some more Occult Adventures, but I'm not great at redesigning NPCs and our PCs are well established in their current classes, although I wonder if the Android Diviner would retrain as a Psychic, we're only 3rd level (snails are faster:-D) so it wouldn't be too hard :-)

Carrion Crown seems like the go to for Occult Adventures.

I feel like Carrion Crown couldn't be a better choice for Occult adventurers.

Edit: CURSE YOU LIZARD MAGE!

I would recommend it to a player of mine if they were playing a Diviner or Enchanter to see if they were interested in switching to Psychic.

Fun idea: An Android Medium who channels his or her past lives.

Shattered Star is another one that would be fun :-)

Would you allow psychic magic to count as arcane for Technomancer purposes, I'm inclined to say yes:-)

I would, I think an Occultist who awakens the ghosts of the long dead crew of the crashed starships in his items would be a rad Technomancer.

Sczarni RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

My top 3 choices would be (in order): Carrion Crown, Mummy's Mask, and Skull and Shackles.

The Exchange

Carrion Crown would be my first choice, the many ghosts and haunts and other strange things could fit quite well with the occult mechanics and expansions on those critters. After that I feel it can work pretty well with most Varisian AP's as a lot of things like the medium and occult skills seem like they would fit perfectly in that region.

Skull and Shackles.

...

...

...

What?

Liberty's Edge

I haven't read Skull and Shackles but are there any cults and cabals in it? Maybe for the cult leader archetype? Yeah, I'm not sure about that one.

For me, it's got to be Carrion Crown. In fact the only thing that's currently stopping me running another pbp of that is the announcement of the Horror themed book next year - that will surely have more goodies (and baddies) to play with in CC

I'll introduce Occult Adventures in mine Kingmaker AP once the Main Party PCs will discover and investigated some particular Occult themed hex in the map...
(Mine players in this AP are used to create some secondary Parties of PCs at some points of the campaign, to run some one-shot adventures or something else it doesn't matter. This is to enforce the sensation that their kingdom is alive and full of people...)

Are you proposing a Ghost in the Machine?

I'd say the upcoming Strange Aeons adventure path would be the perfect fit. Paizo have kindly given us a book full of strange mystical classes. After Hell's Rebels is out of the way we'll have a mysterious madness inducing AP, hopefully with a dose of investigation too.

So we get a book full of new classes. We get about six months to try them out, get used to them. And then we get an Adventure Path to play them in after an initial adjustment period.

Well actually it's Hell's Rebels, then Hell's Vengeance, then Strange Aeons, which all well and good, but doesn't help me with a slot opening up now with a TPK in Skull and Shackles :-)

Wait, you need a Path now? This wasn't just a thought exercise?

Give me a minute...

Well in a couple weeks, only murdered them all this week:-) (oops!)

I personally think that Jade Regent would be a good fit (what with the haunted castle in the first book, and the kami elements in later ones)

My first choice would be Carrion Crown. If you need NPCs redone, I can PM you some.

Mummy's Mask is spot-on thematically

When I run Crimson Throne, I'm planning to add a lot of Occult content to Korvosa. If you want to run that, I can take care of re-statting for you - all I ask is that you tell me how it goes. ^_^

Wrath of the Righteous would be hard. There's no mythic path for psychic characters... plus, it's Wrath of the Righteous. I can try and help you work past the issues with the Path itself, though.

Could double down with Iron Gods, but it's for the play with uncles and cousins that always flake slot :-)

Think I might re-train my Oracle into an Occultist, dwarves don't make the best Oracles anyway:-D

I'm playing in a Mummy's Mask campaign. I have an elven Arcanist. We also have an halfling thief erm rogue, a cleric, a ranger and a spiritualist. The spiritualist has yet to shift from the play test to the occult rules. We are having fun.

Yeah my party is resistant to changing PCs mid campaign, and I gotta admit I don't want to change my Dwarven Oracle, 14 charisma and all:-)

I think we'll go with Mummy's Mask, Carrion Crown or Curse of the Crimson Throne (since conversion is needed any way:-D) also turns out one of the uncles is a big Occult nerd, so he was receptive to joining in, time will tell, he's actually quite busy so can't fault him too much :-)

Involving the Esoteric Order of the Palatine Eye in Mummy's Mask might help "occultify" the Path. One of my PCs is planning to go down that road...

...as well as working for the Aspis Consortium. It'll be interesting. ^_^

That's a good one :-)

It does sound interesting :-)

It's even more so if you have access to Classic Horrors Revisited. There's someone very interesting in the Mummies chapter...

That was one of the first pathfinder books I bought actually, love that book :-)

Ha! I never caught that :-)

Good eye!:-)

He's also mentioned in Occult Mysteries, as the one who authorized Conference Z.

It's not my favorite Easter egg, though. That honor goes to the little-known connection between AP #29: Mother of Flies and AP #46: Wake of the Watcher.

That one I caught :-)

Also a big fan of the Vancaskerkins, the s*** luck family tying all the Varisian APs together :-)

Also the link between Rise of the Runelords and Curse of the Crimson Throne :-)

Not to mention the Worldwound hints dropped in People of the River and the Numeria book :-)
