Nope! It's a "musical" campaign loosely based on the Murder! Murder! song in the Jekyll and Hyde musical. The details have changed, however, to protect the mystery...

At the Zoo, oldest graduated into middle school, she worked her ass off this year so I'm comfortable with that statement, she made huge strides in focus and work ethic :-)

Just finished my three-year-old's first "Story Game"!
(Hint: "Story Game" is code for "RPG"!)
He was a race car driver who entered into a teamwork challenge with his Mommy's character (I ran it) for a race in the famed racing city "Radiator Springs" in Japan (made in homage of Radiator Springs in the Cars movies). Of the five tracks, they both chose the Central track which, randomly, turned out to be the hardest.
My wife was a charisma-focused character (), while my son was an intelligence focused character ().
They were ranked in terms of speed (based on their agility/dexterity) and flashiness for points earned (based on their charisma). Obstacles were overcome with skill (based on their intelligence).
{[d6+modifier game v. various challenges ranging from 2-6 (1d5+1)]}
My son (barely!) managed to come in first thanks to his intelligence and dexterity, and made a few points. My wife came in third due to moderate dexterity roll and excellent intelligence roll... but she more than made up for any lack with her charisma roll. Since the track was very hard, only ([1d5-1]/4) other cars made it. With their scores added together, they did the best of all the teams by a large margin!
They went back to help those who were crashed so no one was hurt, and then did a victory lap around a different track (the Eastern one) just for fun!
Not only did they receive the adulation of the crowd and trophies as the winning team (and individual winners), but they received more than one sponsorship!
(They settled on a milk sponsorship and developed revolutionary new milk storing-and-dispensing technology in cars (complete with optional flavor additions). Big doin's!)
Woo!

I would not be the happy jolly person I am today without my kids, I can honestly say they make me a much better person than I otherwise would've been, it's not for everyone but it suits me perfectly :-)

Being a parent can make you happier because it makes you care a lot less about stupid crap and more about important things. But it can also make you stress about things non-parents would never think of. Non-parents never look at something, and think, "How much is this going to hurt, when I step on it at 3 in the morning when checking on my sick son/daughter?" Or, "How annoying will this ray gun be when my son/daughter inevitably holds the trigger button down for 7 hours straight until the battery dies?", and things like that.

I honestly never think of that stuff anyway, I have 7 brothers, a Ray gun blasting for 7 hours is just white noise to me, waves crashing ashore :-)

I enjoy my nephews and nieces when I feel like it (mom and dad are always ready to get a couple hours of downtime at the drop of a hat) and when they get on my nerves, they go home. It's just that simple. Any aspect I don't feel like dealing with, I don't. Any aspect I do, with mom and dad's permission, I do. I skip talking about sex with my niece and leave that to her parents, but tell her about picking a college or whatnot. I avoided diapers with the nephew, but later take him to play videogames at Dave and Busters. You cannot tell me this is anything less than perfection.
Also, because they don't always see me, I can let them do stuff that would get on my nerves if it was 24/7, or would be bad for them if they experienced it all the time. It's always a treat for them to see me as a result.
Since I don't buy their necessities, everything I give them is luxury, so in their eyes I look WAY more generous than mom and dad, even though I spend maybe 5% a year in comparison...Because kids don't care about food, shelter, clothes, utilities, and even everyday luxuries like cable or air conditioning, because they've never gone without, and to them it's all just expected.
Because of all this, they're a heck of a lot more psyched when I pick them up from school or pop by the house to visit, and they have no idea that as much as I love them it pales in comparison to their parents.

One of the things is that I've always heard my whole life, "Marriage changes everything." and "Kids change everything." and all those kinds of things.
And it's true.
It's just that these things can be very misleading, as they are very different for different people.
When I got married I was so incredibly excited. Early marriage stuff happened. But something weird and magical also occurred... a strange revelation... I was still the same daggum person. I didn't undergo some sort of weird, "And now I'm a husband!" transformation like I'd always thought. My emotions didn't suddenly become deeper or stronger than they were the day before we were married. We just now had permission to get to all the exciting stuff, and went on a nice trip together to start learning how to do so properly.
Similarly, when my first child was born, I kind of expected this crashing wash of emotion, this moment where, clearly, "Everything is different now." Instead, I almost slept through my first's birth (after a day of labor, I was pretty exhausted - my wife just didn't have that luxury - but fortunately I was able to wake up in time), and when he was born, while I loved the strange, hideous, alien-looking thing that was pulled (quite painfully) from my wife (he had to be cleaned, as he was covered in the meconium) and rushed away to ensure that he wasn't deathly ill (he thankfully wasn't), taking me from my wife in the hour of her need, instead of "Changed forever" I felt... tired, a little worried, and kind of ill. Also totally like myself and unchanged from the previous day other than that.
The marvelous thing is that I am absolutely a completely, thoroughly, and gloriously different person than I was before either of those events happened, and the changes are absolutely, 100% because of them.
But not because of an instantaneous moment in time that I spontaneously transformed.
Rather, I'm a different person because of the continued presence and impact of those people over the course of years.
Many of my hard corners have been rounded and my rough spots smoothed. Some by my wife, some by my kids. I've become both more active/responsible/hard-working and more lazy at the same time in different ways.
This phenomenal song* is absolutely true (though I can, looking both at who I was before and who I am now, say "It was for the better.")... but it wasn't obvious at the time that it happened.

All true of being an uncle... even expected and needed by the parents to some extent (though I always cleared things I'd let the kids "get away with" first, 'cause... well... lawful...).
One of my favorite memories was when my wife and I got to take our oldest nieces to Kung Fu Panda back when it was in the theaters (and it's still an awesome film, by the way). We all watched in rapt silence (save some snacking) and all came out of the theater doing "kung fu" moves like hand-chops and punches and kicks (there was no one else anywhere around).
They talked about how amazing that was for years afterwords.
But..but....sex and diapers!
These two things are not mutually exclusive and both definitely exist after children.
Ha! Both my kids are done with diapers, so it's all down hill from here, I'm sure the teenage years will go smoothly....
They're already three! What could go wrong?
