My biggest mark against the movie trailer is it doesn't feel like the Ostrander Suicide Squad from that fat stack of back issue comics I got as a kid. Since the nu52 relaunch, the previews of the new SS comics just felt like the writers (and DiDio/Lee's inescapable shackles) were trying to retread the same ideas haphazardly/half-assed without understanding the why of how Ostrander's stories & characterizations worked.
Yeah, I have to agree to that. New 52 SS has not impressed me so far. There are good ideas and scenes there, but nothing really impressive. And I have not yet got to the New Suicide Squad books, which I have heard are a bit better. But you speak of the truth. It actually reminds me more of Assault on Arkham-animated movie. Which is not a bad thing, at least to me since I liked that movie. Ostrander-influences are certainly lacking-at least on the surface.
Beyond Joker/Leto and Harley/Robbie: I am looking forward to seeing Viola Davis knock it out of the park as Waller. I'm not sure Smith can actually bring the detached dissociated Deadshot to life onscreen beyond just coasting along on his starpower while channeling "generic grim anti-hero". The only time I enjoyed Jai Courtney's acting was in Spartacus, so I have little hope his Boomerang won't be a yet another dull uncharismatic vacuum. Joel Kinnaman will probably do better as Flagg, but the Robocop reboot sucked and he lacked the acting chops to rise above the movie's faults in any memorable way. Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has had plenty of crappy thankless roles, so I'm hoping they'll let him bring Croc to life, but that is some extensive prosthetic makeup to act through. I don't enough about the other cast members to have an opinion on them, but why the heck is Katana even on the Squad?
I have not seen Jay on...anything, now that I think about it so I have open mind for his performance. Or the new Robocop for that matter. Adewale has some experience working with heavy prosthetic as seen in Thor: The Dark World, and I believe he does a killer job. In one scene where they walk towards the camera you can see him tossing his head in very animalistic manner.
Katana might be locked up to prison because she killed somebody, and is the "hero" forced to work with the group of criminals. Or maybe she is Batman's mole on the squad, getting information about the squad and their missions.
My 'complete lack of faith in DC' is all used up lamenting their animated division, specifically Cartoon Network. Who I am convinced is run by the real Lex Luthor.......Your faith in humanity and DC's movie division is adorable.Katana (especially under nu52) leans much more towards 'vigilante' than 'hero'. It's not unfeasible that she got picked up.why the heck is Katanna even on the Squad?Considering DC's recent track record?

DC used to have the AWESOMEST cartoons...and now...
I keep asking myself...why, oh why...did they do that to the Teen Titans?!

Will Smith is a decent actor but he has a very narrow range.I'm not really sure it counts as being a good actor if his range is "Will Smith but with a different name".
He's not a great actor - but he's a great entertainer. Has screen presence and is fun to watch.
But - you never really forget that it's Will Smith on screen.
