Hey folks--
Can't find a firm mention of this so I've been playing more conservative. When one wants to craft an item, they must spend 1/2 the base price. Presumably, this is the cost of the various parts that go into the finished item. Is it the case that one must be in a settlement with a base price allowance large enough for that 1/2 of the base price? In other words, is it seen as one costly investment or multiple small purchases totaling the value. As mentioned I've been requiring that they be in a settlement with a base equal or higher than 1/2 the items cost. Thanks for your help!

I don't believe the two are connected in the rules. If you have enough moola to craft an item, you craft it.
You can, as you seem to have done, require that they obtain the actual materials for crafting. In your case, you assume they can find the materials in a sufficiently large settlement. I personally wouldn't bother, but what you're doing is legitimate in terms of being a GM. It will make it more difficult to craft certain items even if they have the ability and cash to do so. You might want to change your rule slightly to say they can acquire the materials they need in any sufficiently large community, but they don't actually have to be in the community to craft. You may also want to expand your rules to allow hermits and others in the wilderness to craft, especially potions and the like. It can get complicated (which is why I wouldn't bother going this route).
Every GM's world is a little different. Be sure characters who might craft know the rules going into the game. There's nothing more frustrating than making a character who crafts, then having the GM shut them down.
In any case, so long as everyone's having fun I don't see a problem.
