Actually I'm really liking Emissary at low levels. I ran a fight last night with a kobold adept helping 2 kobold snipers. Every round he and his familiar were handing out +1's from Guidance. Couple that with the bless spell they had going and that's +2 on every attack roll, every round.
Finally when the barbarian began swimming up to where the kobolds were the familiar flew out. If it'd had 10' more of movement it would've touch attacked with the Evil domain ability that would've given the barbarian Sickened for 1 round. Not huge, but maybe enough to make her start drowning.
Flipping that around you could have a witch doing the same thing. You could give it some other buff/debuff domain ability or a nice parting shot ranged attack like a 30' fire bolt dealing 1d6+1/2 witch levels. Kind of nice right?

Yup! And not just for low levels; the domain you want just changes. At high levels, Madness is pretty crazy good, for instance.
