life goal affect alignment?

Advice

Hello everyone,
I'm fairly new to the forums so bare with me.

I'm starting a new campaign soon and i plan as playing as a Tiefling witch.
Due to her backstory she is trying to get an invite to get back to Promise in Hermea.
The thing is as Mengkare (the dragon ruler of Promise) is Lawful good.

Does this mean I have to make my character lawful good to have a chance at getting an invite?

thanks for any advice

Well there are two different questions here I think. Regarding the chance of getting an invite back, yes lawful good seems almost necessary. But for that to be the goal of the character does not in any way restrict alignment. Those who get to stay in Hermea are observed for years, pass rigorous tests that they might not even know are tests, and if you fail as a child who was born there, you are given supplies, expelled, and left to make it on your own.

To such a child, the appeal of making it back, of being able to go home and live in what your nostalgia remembers as paradise, that could be something that appeals to absolutely any alignment. And it could lead to a life of questing in order to earn that re-entry.

It could be a gorgeous story of a chaotic creature showing Mengkare that there is a different way, it could be the slow evolution of an evil character into a lawful good one as she unconsciously strives to the paragon virtues of her homeland.

In short, you've got a lot of story opportunity here however you play it.

thank you for the quick answer.

My character was born in Promice and as she grew older her tiefling heritage starts to emerge. This causes her to get banished from the utopia. Hence her dream is to return and be accepted.

Ive been trying to do as much research as I can on Hermia but I haven't been able to find much information.

There's really not much out there, I think just the Inner Sea World Guide's couple of pages. There's a thread here where some details are talked about though: messageboards.

Since you've got an interesting concept and a dearth of published info, that means you have the opportunity to flesh out the details however it works for the story in your game, so that's exciting!

thanks very much!
Its my second character so wanted to do something very different.

Im starting to think i might of gone overboard on the planning of this character but I wanted to make sure I hadn't screwed myself over alignment wise.

Consider talking with your GM to help fill out the gaps in Hermea's information, or point them in the direction of information on Hermea. Most GMs like it when players offer fodder for use in quests and storylines that come close to home with one or more characters for a session or two.

Yeah, the life goal does not necessarily affect your alignment, but since this is about being accepted by a highly exclusive ideology based organization... having that ideology helps your chances.

It is like trying to be an eagle knight and being a heavy supporter of slavery. Just not going to work.

As a general exploration on alignment and character development though, an example on the other end of the spectrum would be a half-orc in a full orc village that is bothered by the fact that he is not as cruel and vicious as the others. These traits are taken as examples of a 'strong' orc warrior, which embodies a CE ideal.

The half orc, however, is far too kind to be that way, and ends up being CG. He might be pressured into doing something terrible, but h would be wracked with guilt and may try to make up for the wrong.

Anyway, advice for your character specifically...yeah, do not expect to have kids in that place. Given that it is a Eugenics program... yeah.. You could possibly try to slip in on some ideological basis though. If make your mind and skill set a valuable resource, you might be able to do something. Offer to be a guide and teacher for the next generation (or a few, given the fact that tieflings tend to have long lives). That overall sounds like the best solution.
