Help choosing a character / party creation for Wrath of the Rightous

Advice

Dark Archive

Hi all,

I would like to ask for help figuring out some fun character builds/concepts that meet certain conditions and are fun to play at level 1-10 as opposed to optimized for 15-20.

3-5 friends and myself are in the planning stages for the first book of the wrath of the rightous campaign. I don't know what other people are playing yet so I want to have a few options to fill the party holes.

I have a little meta-game knowledge of the campaign that I am allowed to use for character creation and would like the character to fit most of the following conditions.

*High CHA/social skills/Mass Combat leadership ability: I know there is alot of npc interaction and some chances to shine as a mass combat leader. Profession(soldier) skills etc (easy to do with a headband of int)

*Strong Mythic Synergy: I would like the character to be something that is made around the interaction of mythic tiers that become available at the end of book 1 ~ level 6 I believe. Mythic eldritch heritage is boss, and I like eldritch heritage in general so inclusions of that in builds is preferred. Feel free to point out other focuses that get much stronger with their mythic feats/abilities.

*Downtime System/Crafting options: our group tends to have some extra focus on these types of options during campaigns so I would really like to have some ability in these.

*Combat ability vs demons/evil: This is probably the #1 focus of whatever the build is. Our Dm likes to optimize monsters and boost CR's. Max hp demons with better feat selections, class levels, and choice magic gear will be aplenty I imagine.

Classes I am considering:
***Note if no one else is playing a paladin I will be playing a Paladin. If someone plays a ranged paladin I might still play a melee paladin. So a melee Paladin build is appreciated.

****Note if there is a paladin in the group and I am allowed to play a summoner I will most likely be playing a summoner. If synthesist is allowed.. I will be playing that. If its not and master summoner is allowed I will most likely be playing that. I don't need/want help with a summoner build, I have several of those already.

Paladin: melee w/ Orc bloodline using eldritch heritage maybe? I'm very familiar with anti-paladin builds but not very much with paladins. Any build would be highly appreciated.

Sorcerer: not sure what would be best against demons. Blasters run into the immune electricity/poison and resists vs cold/fire/acid issues. Maybe a crossblooded Fey/Arcane enchanter type? Or a sonic/force damage focused type. (not alot of sonic spells i can think of so help with that would be appreciated, and I believe many of those are Bard only spells). spell focus, elemental focus can stack up nicely.

Oracle: buffing/disable focused, maybe with Aasimar Oracle boost for an animal companion or other key revelation. eldritch for arcane heritage.

Bloodrager: w/ Orc bloodline using eldritch heritage. crossblooded w/ primal and some choice barbarian rage powers.

Cleric: using channel / selective channel maybe? glory/etc domains. Haven't really looked much at clerics to be honest but I think they would be strong and fun if built correctly.

I'm open to Zen archer, alchemist builds (vivisectionist or thrower w/ force damage bombs), inquisitor builds (ranged or melee w/ teamwork) but those don't really really fit the cha/social/mass combat. That being said if someone else takes the Cha roles then I will need to fill in with something else.

And if anyone can think of anything I've missed/ not thought about I would appreciate a 'bonk' on the head and a comment / question / concern / criticism / or critique. :)

Thank you all in advance

Inevitable variant channel cleric suggestion:

This is a super-highly combat-optimized suggestion with munchkinish overtones. Please, before choosing this option, run it past your GM. While it's rules-legal (and even PFS legal) your GM has final say. This suggestion may majorly alter nearly every encounter in your favor. Possibly too much in your favor. Ask your GM. It's a Rulership-powered Hangover Cleric demon hunter. The big redeeming quality of this build's Overpowered nature is that your allies actually kill the foes, not you.

Given that you are interested in Mythic Tiers, perhaps Variant Channeling is within a reasonable power range. Mythic does not help this variant channeling, but several associated options have good mythic options.

In Way of the Wicked the PCs are encouraged to work with or for the ruling devil. He happens to have a loyal number two archdevil and right-hand-fiend named Dispater. Clerics of Dispater can use that Evil One's variant channeling power (Rulership), which is a one-round-Daze-and-damage effect in a 30' radius. The feat Alignment Channel(Chaotic Evil) can make this effect specifically targeted at Demons. This is not actually required, as standard negative Variant Channeling (Rulership) already applies to demons.

One subtle benefit of using Alignment Channel is that you can possibly use it to detect demons. Channel negative rulership, via Alignment Channel, and any [possibly disguised] demons within 30' are harmed and dazed. Check with your GM whether a disguised demon visibly jumps, smokes, spews bile, etc when it takes HP damage from this effect. Non-demons won't notice a thing. With your high CHA you will eventually have about 10 uses per day.

This build gives you and your GM fine-grained control over how powerful the PC is. Make sure your GM understands how this power works in-game, how many times per day you can do it, and the tactical effect it has.

Ordinarily cleric channeling is a weak option. When a hangover cleric Quickens a negative Rulership-variant Selective Improved Alignment Channel, possible at 5th level, one could argue this is roughly comparable to a Selective Heightened Quickened Widened Dazing Fireball. That would be a 15th level spell, were it possible to apply so much metamagic to a Fireball. Maybe play a couple dream-fights and see what happens. Mostly the foes will stand still and contemplate their Ruler, Dispater, while the PCs mercilessly cut them down. This build is not strong solo, but provides an enormous force multiplier to allies.

If the GM balks at the power of a full Hangover Cleric, perhaps suggest Alignment Channel such that the Rulership effect only works on demons. This balances the effect by negating it against all non-demons, while still making you an utterly awesome demon hunter. Perhaps make the variant effect only applicable to Alignment Channel targeted demons, for game balance. This is not how the rules actually do it, but might be enough of a power downgrade to avoid unbalancing the entire campaign. A full hangover cleric is an enormously powerful force-multiplier and battlefield controller in combat. If the hangover cleric's team is halfway competent they will make a mockery of standard APs. You specifically asked for high powered options, so I grudgingly make this suggestion.

The hangover cleric also is a full divine caster, able to support and even heal the party with the best. You can even squeeze in very good martial combat ability, simultaneously with the hangover effect and spell casting. The most extreme version sees you selectively channel to harm and daze (with very high DC!) shuts down most nearby foes as a Move Action , then cast a spell (or Versatile Channel Positive to heal your allies!) as a Standard Action , your mount takes a 5' step and Full Attacks, then you and your mount/animal companion both clobber and trip foes via +4 reach paired AoOs during enemy movement. This build is a veritable Whirlwind of Win, especially against demons. Consult with you GM for how far it is appropriate to go down this path.

A two handed fighting Demon Blooded Tiefling Paladin of Iomedea buy the start of book 4 is doing 200+hp damage per round without making a lot of effort at optimization. (4d6 +49 damage and regularly gets 5 attacks with mythic and haste. That includes smite and he almost never misses, using some other mythic stuff that can go up astronomically if he went all out I would expect about 600hp damage in one round).

The Fire Oracle is proving an effective blaster, a Fire Sorceror could do just as well. (can easily do 350 pts of fireball damage ignoring fire resistance)

Really any Mythic caster has incredible power and flexibility , however to fully utilize it you will need to be able to choose rapidly from the option of any spell allowed in your campaign, if you are not very familiar with the spell list a caster will slow down the game.

Anything involving summoning/animal companions is slightly less than optimal as the summoned creatures lack mythic power and fall behind the power cure badly. Having said that the Rangers animal companions has been useful but is dead if any significant opponent pays attention to it.

Alchemist looks to have poor synergy with mythic powers.

Really designing a weak character for this campaign is hard

Correction to above:

Versatile Channel is not an option for clerics of an Evil deity. No channel-healing your allies (ways around this, but takes more investment).

Ok. So far the party has a ranged paladin and a melee inquisitor. Another player is deciding between a melee paladin or a ranged inquisitor. 4th player undecided. So I'll take any melee / ranged builds / anything with divine magic off my choices.

Debating between:

NG female kitsune sorceror with fey bloodline reporting in to cause problems. ENCHANT(COMPULSION) focused and will also be utility and buffing. Arcane eldritch heritage and grab cacophonous call.open to other bloodlines for crossblooded. Think Arcane is better for heritage if I take mythic heritage.

CN male human crossblooded sorceror of orc/Draconic bloodline lobbing an as yet to be chosen element in all directions.
Spell focus evocation and spell specialization burning hands For 3d4+6 damage at level 1. Arcane eldritch heritage at ~7th level. Think Arcane is better for heritage.

CG male half elf Synthesist who despises summoned creatures and who will be a tanky caster who buffs party and SOS/SOD on enemies. Orc or more likely Arcane heritage.

Grand Lodge

You want a Mythic Vital strike Paladin tank

An Archer Paladin

A evangelist Cleric

and a Conjuration wizard.
