If you want to proceed to T2 for pretty much anything on Wizard, Arcane Expert 7 is your gate. If I'm going after Influence, that is certainly another topic altogether, though, and not specifically related to Wizards.
The speed of killing goblins is most certainly not the same as our more populous indigenous race, ogres. And ironically, I've found that killing ogres provides less reward in the form of drops than goblins generally speaking (probably due to he higher volume). But of course that is a separate issue.

I guess i just chalk that up to a meaningful choice, to use an phrase I see a lot on these boards.
The problem Erian is alluding to is that it's not meaningful. There is currently no downside to getting your achievements by killing starter goblins. They don't count for less, and they respawn so quickly that it is faster than the time it takes to run around killing something else.

Yes, thanks Cal. I guess I'm not being as direct as I think--I want to have a reason to fight ogres around Keeper's Pass more than goblins. Right now, I can't get that reason from treasure, nor from building my arcane powers. I stated elsewhere that ogres seem like a sucker's game at present but that is again drifting from the point. I suppose influence may indeed by that reason in the future, but until we can see the mechanic such is just speculation.

I see this as the primary reason wiz was seen as op. This is bad logic. Wiz was never OP starter goblins were/are a problem and the benefit to killing them was OP. Now go fight ogers and alpha wolves in a robe.

The advantage of wands and staffs all being the one achieve is its relatively easy to get a high achieve level for advancing in staff and wand weapon feats compared to say long bow or greatsword. At higher levels a lot of feats require achieve points in the specific weapon you are advancing rather than just generic arcane/martial/etc .
The disadvantage of wands and staffs all being the one achieve is its harder to get a high total of generic arcane achieves. Once you hit arcane 10 (which is pretty easy to do) you do not have many other places to go for more arcane points. There is not a lot of call for stupidly high generic role achievements though.

Yep, to which the flip side is, I'll go fight ogres and alpha wolves when there's any reason to actually do so...and I do wear a robe for those that haven't met Erian. Actually quite the sub-optimal wizard since I'm focused on becoming a Bard and so level only the Enchantment and Sonic spells.
cool yeah ill play mine each release for a few days to lvl and see what they are like but if it's the status quo I won't be using my wiz more than that because it's not fun. Wich is unfortunate as I was really looking forward to playing an evil wiz type character so it's the first one I made and the first account i bought.
