Persona 5

Video Games

They are finally making this game, here is a preview for it.

I can dig it. Just so long Catherine or Katherine don't show up ;)

Although I wouldn't mind another entry in the series with a predominately adult cast ala Persona 2 Eternal Punishment.

I hope that...

they have gotten rid of social links.
the dungeons are no longer random and have more interesting and varied designs and locations.
there is more freedom of where you can go and more to explore.
you can talk to the enemies like the first 2 games.
that monsters have spell cards for fusion to create personas.
that the main character is not the only one who can change his persona.
that some of the "dungeons" in games include, but not limited too, a school, the mall, the sewers, a theme park, a museum(art or history), a circus, a park/forest/garden, a toy store/factory, a spooky mansion, a hospital, a gym, and a graveyard/catacombs.

Excellent.

It looks like they are finally using the classic monsters(Pyro Jack and Sandman) instead of the shadows from the first two games.

I thought there would be more Persona fans on this site.

I've thought of the Shin Megami series, almost got one recently, but a lot of the concept that uses the real religion stuff of this world kind of puts me off of it.

If it didn't utilize real religion concepts (at least I understand that it does, I haven't actually ever played a game of it, but the appearances are that it has some rather deeply ingrained concepts from religion in the real world incorporated into it) I might be far more gung ho in trying it.

I guess I'm just not wanting that type of religion tossed at me when trying to play a fantasy game.

Or, I may be wrong about how much of a religion is actually used in it, but what I've read of some of the summaries sound like it can get pretty darn deep into religious conceptualization.

I'm not completely anti-religious concepts in games, I LOVE the Diablo series, but it's pretty much your standard fantasy fare. All the series from the Shin Megami Tensei series of games seem to incorporate Christianity as a status quo type thing from what I understand.

They use stuff from all religions really not just Christianity. The whole game series focuses on many modern and old occult related ideals/stuff.

I hope they bring back talking to the enemy monsters like in the first two games.

Can't wait for this game.

Looks like there will be something like social links I hope it is set up were it is easy to master all of them in the first time.

Didn't see a big reason to post here as the things you like about the games and parts I do clash pretty heavily with the social links being the most obvious example. I personally really liked them and hope to see them in every game to come. The mix of dungeon crawl and socializing/story was what made it 'Persona' for me and also one of my favourite series.

Has anyone played the Persona game for DS, Strange Journey?

I truly loved it...Became one of my favorite games practically overnight.

Strange Journey is not a Persona game though both are Shin Megami Tensei games. I really wish they would do more SMT games for PS3. Well at least they are finally doing one.

It has the talking to enemies thing you wanted.

Well most SMT games have that element, the first two Persona games did, but the Digital Devil saga didn't.

Have you ever played the Digital Devil Saga games?

Well it looks like Persona 5 will be pushed back to next year though I am not surprise since they haven't released much info about it until now.

Also a new trailer

Well at least we finally have a Japanese release date of September

New trailer here.

So this game comes out in a week in the states, and tomorrow if I remember right in Europe... I think I'm going to explode with the can'twaits right now.

Arise!

Been playing through and I enjoy the game but have issues with things the characters have done

Having a meeting right in a public access way. I mean the game even points out how they get spied on by two other characters and they talk openly about missions. The school roof was at least somewhat private and it seems to be that the characters vanish into thin air when they go to the Metaverse.

Mishima. The fellow who gives you missions for the Mementos was ok at first and I played along since hey, exp and money. But then I hit a scene where he is going on about 'Famous because of me.' as well as wanting the Phantoms to go after someone based on a rumor. I've cut this fellow out completely and just Rp it as dumping him into the Metaverse

Yeah, Mishima gets pretty nuts for awhile there. XD And the team could definitely have picked a better place to have meetings. Say, a Karaoke booth - specifically designed to be as private as possible.

The game is certainly geared for a NG+ run since getting your stats up to the right level for certain characters gets pretty hard. I still have the airsoft gun and my Guts isn't high enough to start things(Just finished the Mafia dungeon)

Yeah, to do it effectively the first time through, you need to follow a guide.

Another annoyance is the "Hey! Go to sleep!" from Morgana even if I don't go into a Palace/Memento. I had a chat about Futaba and get kicked to my bed room and can't do any bed room activities.

Ryoji is also wearing thin due to his loud mouth.

Went to Akibarhara(the electronics town) and poked my nose into the Maid Cafe.

Wow. Never going back in there, that was embarrassing.

If only they weren't really in Japan...

Mishima gets better, eventually.

I am rather uncomfortable with changing the hearts of people who are only guilty of cheating on video games. Plus this whole thing veers into Conversion Therapy

The main character doesn't blindly follow Mishima, he does have some say in what the Thieves are going to do despite being a silent protagonist. Mishima gets dark (well, for him) before things get better. Usually confidant rank 7-8 is where things are darkest for the side stories before things get better.

As for the conversion therapy, one video helped put things into perspective for some people that I know. I use the video because my brain is too dumb to put feels into words. Video. Don't watch it until you've finished the game cause spoilers abound. But as a deconstruction vid its worth watching.

So I'm in December

Ship to Ship Combats:

Shido. Gorram multi stage fight. I'm level 60 with everyone else at level 59 there about. Due to lots of faffing about and exploring the game, none of my combat party has max social links(I love fishing and baseball) 12-13 days left on the clock before election and I am just wondering if I should dive into Mementos and kick everyone up to 60

Well, there is an exploit you can do on flu days to grind like mad... which is an option. XD Otherwise, do whatever.

Heard about that. Any flu days before the critical day?

Yeah, you could defeat the grim reaper but that takes some prep work.

Buy the DLC from Persona 1, you get a set of accessories that make you immune to light/dark death effects. Equip those to your party members that you will use against him. My group consisted of Ann, Mona, and Ryuji.

12/8 and 12/9 are the last flu days, I think. After that, the window to use the grinding trick is gone.

Beat him. I had spell cards that let the MC use the Medium powered party heal and that kept me ahead of the damage curve so others could beat hum down.

Hooray~

It definitely helps if you have the SP-restoring accessories from the doctor's place. XD I practically never switch away from those.

Yea, I had a level 2 Sp bandage and a few of Haru's MP carrots.

Awesome music in that fight
