For us: yes! It went well. Mostly, this is a Kingmaker thing, but we've celebrated birthdays in a few of our games. Festivals and celebrations are definite things we do.

One of the first long term GMs I had kept a running calendar, and would check it before each game session. We played that campaign for 4 years real time, so we had plenty of birthday celebrations. Not to mention holidays and such as well.
Worked really well for immersion.

Related to that-have your players ever celebrated a birthday of an in-game character? If yes, how did it go? If no, what about other celebrations-new year, solstice, first day of summer?

I don't know the Golarion calendar well enough to know what day, month, or year it usually is in game. Back in 3.x I actually saw a birthday celebrated using Eberron's calendar. I had it pinned up on the wall, along with a poster map of Khorvaire, by the gaming table.

Said character was being kicked out of his House for being a troublemaker when he turned 18. The birthday bash turned into a 'we got you this adventuring gear so get out there and use it before we do something drastic' event that the player wanted as his reason for leaving his cozy life as a Dragonmarked heir. Unfortunately the campaign fell apart over scheduling conflicts so I didn't get a chance to have him or another character's next birthday come up in game. I can't think of another time someone has even mentioned a birthday for their character.

Not really. Height and Weight are descriptive (and in some ways even mechanical), while date of birth isn't particularly descriptive or indicative of anything about the character, likely best kept in the general notes section of most character sheets.

If you need to know what year the character was born, most have an "Age" section cell, and you can just subtract that number from whatever the date is in the campaign setting (if your GM knows, because seriously, a lot of GMs don't; even with my own setting, I don't always take the time to decide on a specific year to start the events, but I might if the PCs were interested in that).

I think we've had birthdays come up before, and I know it's been a situation that popped up for some NPCs. Celebrations and such are also fairly commonplace. In fact, in a mostly free-form Pathfinder game I've been playing some NPCs in, the characters were throwing a party for their brother and his betrothed fiance unexpectedly showed up at the party.

They currently can't seem to decide if they want her to join them, or if they want to drown her. She seems somewhat sympathetic or like-minded in some of their goals, but she's also come off to some of the players as at least a little psychopathic (score, they noticed) and she refused to doff her tannuki skin clothes at the request of one of the PCs who is a child tannuki.

What is your favourite food to cook? To eat?

Favorite food to cook is probably a gentle honey pepper stir fry, with some green bell pepers, carrots, green beans (meat optional but I like little strips of beef in it myself, but I'm also happy going vegetarian), sprinkled over (plain) ramen noodles (the cheap kind) that have been cooked enough to be soft yet still have some spring to them.

EDIT: It's pretty easy to make. You use honey (as in the bee kind) to give it a bit of sweetness, mix with some garlic, and your choice of spices (I like mixing red cayenne peppers into it but some might like something milder). Pour your sauce mix into the mixture with the veggies and cook it in the pan with it, possibly with a little bit of water in the pan to keep the heat even. As the veggies cook in it, the moisture will create the sauce. If you use beef, drop the raw strips into the pan and cook it with the veggies, and the stock that naturally cooks out of the meat does some pretty great stuff to the sauce as well.

I also like cooking cheap steaks in a garlic and sweet tea mix with a bit of pepper.

Not technically "cooking" so much as preparing but if you take a box of mac & cheese (like the craft kind with the powdered cheese packets, though other brands can work), it serves as a great base for doctoring up. Add in some chili seasoning for a chili-cheese macaroni, or some Italian herbs for a bit of a pop. A hint of garlic goes a long way with the cheese as well, and if you mix a little sour cream into it instead of milk you'll get a delightfully creamy mixture instead. You can also add other things to the cheese & mac (veggies or bacon bits work well).

Favorite to eat? As a fat kid, this is hard to decide. Probably generic chinese food like lo mein, fried rice, and meat dumplings, with a side of general tso's chicken.

I guess put simply, if I was going to ask you over for dinner, you'd probably get treated to an exotic dinner of simple to make cheap food, consisting of freshly cooked vegetables, ramen noodles, a side of doctored up mac & cheese, and an oven baked sandwhich with a mixture of lettuce, tomato, and beef salami, topped with honey mustard and thousand island dressing.

So... when are you coming to my house to cook for me forever?
(Though you'd have to make a second, non-spicy version. I'd eat a third of the normal, a third of the non-spicy, and leave you and my wife to their respective preferences. :D)

That all sounds wonderful to eat.

Letting you know: I've never worked harder than I am without a job. Holy carp, it never ends. Never. There are no real breaks. It's awesome, though.

You can cook for me anytime you likem except no peppers, I'm not a fan of hot, but boy do I love garlic (which is proof that I am not a vampire despite my aversion to daylight).

Ehhhh...I guess the worst that could happen is a mod removes the post. Then again, I guess it's not as bad as some of the artwork for Paizo monsters (bad as in provocative, not bad as in poorly drawn. Paizo choice in artists tends to be pretty great). (>_>);

Suggestive pose. Icehawk asked about the "male" symbol in the upper left. That's actually a note for me to remember the point of light to practice my shading from. It's a practice piece, like most of my pieces are (because I need it). (^~^);

Elven Aid-Another. The background is me being damn lazy (it's a photographed library that's just been modified in GIMP to serve as background filler) but it fits where the characters are supposed to be (a fancy mansion).

I'm not super happy with Cassandra's face (I feel like it needs more detail, and my aunt told me I needed to get his arm out of the forground so we could see the good stuff), but with this I was practicing drawing multiple characters interacting, shading, etc. I still have a long way to go on faces. (Q_Q)

Anyway, uh, enjoy!? D:

I would suggest looking at Drowtales to see how they handle various skin tones.

Also, I think it'd help if you blended the shades together for smoother transitions of the colors.

Bookmarking some more tutorials before work. I've only ever done pencil sketches seriously until a few months ago. Painting/shading is something I'm trying to get down and I'm really not there yet. I still struggle with things like color values though I think I'm finally understanding the concept.

I'll see if I can throw something better together when I get home from work today. (o_o);

Well it is better than anything I have ever drawn, so I can't really comment much. On the first picture waist seems a bit thin, I suppose?

Second one is great, but if that lady wants to stitch up the hole in that armchair's seat, she should probably ask the man to move, he is clearly in her way.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'm n artist, but what jumps out at me is proportions. In the suggestive pose, the lady's posterior is a little too bubbly. It doesn't 'fit' her frame well. This is, of course, my opinion, as I recall you saying you enjoyed drawing well endowed females.

In Aid-Another, the man's arm seems to be a little too long. Purely speculation and envisioning him standing up, but when I compare the length of his arm to the length of his torso and the how shallow he seems to be sitting on the chair (based on the position of her head and the design of his stomach muscles) it seems like his arms would hang down to his multi-touch. Very gorilla armed. But, as one of the people I play with actually has arms like this (he's 5'5 but his arms are long than any other player's, including the guy who is 6'7), it's not unheard of.

[Edit] yeah, I didn't want to submit yet, but thanks Paizo...

I like the implied feeling in the Suggestive Pose. When I look at it, I get the feeling like she's in a shower, and she's either been taken recently (and it was either good or hard enough to leave her with wobbly knees, hence the pigeon toe), or she's in the process of getting a good thorough shagging, giving her the pigeon toe. Other than the bubbly butt, everything seems to be well proportioned too.

What I liked most about Aid-Another is the expressions. The girl looks almost demure, or subservient, while the man seems to flip between adoration of the girl, and smug pleasure at the power he wields over her. Possibly both. Depends on how I tilt my head while looking at it.

Yeah, the bubble butt was something I wasn't super happy with (squishy bits are difficult sometimes XD).

Pretty psyched about that since that's kind of what I was going for as well. Trying to get skilled enough to draw pr0n, so I can use that to make cash using Patreon so I could quit my day job and focus more on art & developing my RPG. :o

Super psyched about this 'cause the characters in question are from a roleplay my friend Raital invited me to, to run some guest NPCs. The setting includes a region, which they are in, which has a society that is excessively human supremacist (when I say excessively, I mean it's not even mild racism, it's literally everyone else is a slave or worse). Cassandra is a half-elf whose elven features are very prominent and is owned by her mistress, Nalise Ivoryclade. In this hypothetical illustration, Nalise is having Cassandra help a nobleman out of a bit of a hard spot.

So at least I captured some of that concept. :D

I think you're close on the pose, but need to soften some shapes. They seem exaggerated a bit.
The Elven one I thought was good. They seemed in proportion, the curvature of the gal(?)'s back was good, only thing I didn't "like" was the look on the guy's face.

Funny that you asked about Cassandra with a "(?)". Cassandra's a half-elf slave, but she was originally male. Her owner, Nalise, with the assistance of alchemy and surgical castration, made Cassandra (formerly Cassander) more feminine because she thought he'd look better as a woman due to his elven features. Cassandra later tried to enact her revenge by attempting to kill Nalise, but couldn't go through with it when Nalise (for a variety of reasons) opted to not defend herself (which caused Cassandra to hesitate). Nalise didn't report the attempt on her life to her father or anyone else (as Cassandra would have been killed for the crime).

Years later, the two are...actually friends. Lovers in fact. Secretly. It's a very strange relationship but one they've come to terms with after the many years together.

Truly, the world they are from is a horrid place.

What was the first adventure you have played in DnD-like games about? What about the first one played specifically in Pathfinder?

Similarily, what was the plot of the first adventure you have ever been a GM of?

Erik Mona, Jason Bulmahn, Wes Schneider, and Crystal Frasier must survive a TPK at Gen Con.

My first thought when I saw this was, "Man, I bet Ashiel could make them die and love every moment of it."

Also, you could then take mechanically inferior characters and probably run them through it and roflstomp the TPK.

I don't even think there was an "about". My cousin was running it and it was essentially just a dungeon crawl. 3.0 was brand new. I was playing a half-orc barbarian named Godar. My backstory was basically that he was picked on a lot by the other kids until one day he got mad, hulked out, and ripped a tree out of the ground (and then the other gets were like, "Ok, f*** that, I ain't teasing him no' more".

I think I still have his sheet somewhere...

I don't recall the plot. It was a homebrew sandbox that didn't have a specified direction but lots of little hooks and choose your own adventure stuff.

It would be fun to GM for them all. I think Crystal wouldn't want me to be her GM though. She really doesn't like me, to the point of not evening responding to me in her AMA thread.

So like I said, I'd throw together a thing after checking a few more tutorials but I got delayed/distracted so I didn't get to do something that night. So I drew this to practice painting tonight (sketched the picture explicitly to paint it).

Into the flame.

Contrast to previous pictures to see change in technique. IMHO, comparing this to Elven Aid Another, I think it doesn't even look like the same artist.

Added a simple background that hopefully makes it pop a little more than the white purgatory she was in. Accidentally painted over here eye-colors (oops, creepy), so I had to repaint the interior of her eyes. Hopefully it came out at least roughly as well.

Into the Flame 2.

Nah, using GIMP. I'll try the spray tool rather than the brush instead though.

I think that's something that John and his wife need to discuss. For some people, yes, for some no. Some might think it's a great loophole, or a great way to have some wild tantalizing sex (like John and John taking turns, or letting her have a go with them on both sides at once, or if she's ever wanted to try a spit-roast position, or maybe she's really just wanted to have an all you can take buffet of man and hey, yet still have the intimacy of a 1:1 relationship).

All in all, I think this stems back to having a conversation to know where a couple's boundaries and borders lie, and to understand what they are and are not comfortable with. I've known couples who think looking at porn is cheating, and I've also known couples who don't care if their significant other is sharing naughty pics with female friends of his as long as he doesn't actually "do" anything, and then I've known couples who don't consider it cheating if they get to be involved or know about it beforehand.

Seriously, communication and understanding everyone's feelings is the real issue here. Once that issue has been resolved, well, bring on the simulacra and all the wild craziness that can entail. Heck, toss in sculpt simulacra, magic jar, and a few other choice spells (maybe even polymorph any object if you're feeling exceptionally adventurous) and in one night you'll discover that martials will always have a little less fun than casters, no matter how balanced. :)

Actually yeah, since my brother had a PC who sort of ended up the boss of this kyton after the dude who grabbed her off her plane was dealt with. Not being the sort to just stab something 'cause it's evil, he picked up the pieces (she had kind of been burger-meated during their fight earlier) and when she regenerated she ended up working with him for a while since his team proved strongest. Since Kytons used to be devils in 3.x, I think that counts.

Far more likely to end up with demons being invited though, oddly enough. Mostly due to succubi. Raital is a big fan (and has played succubi-things as PCs) and I've always loved succubi and since I tend to play them as less manic-violent and more manipulative and capricious, they're one of the few demons that are relatively "safe" to interact with on a regular basis in my campaigns (as long as you don't get on their bad side).

Going to bed (night shift tonight) but here's a sketch I started this morning when I got home from work. Two phases and it's not done yet, but the first is a mostly-colored sketch bit, the 2nd is closer to being done with the beginnings of clothing. I'm thinking of dropping the leg wraps and going with shorts or maybe a skirt. One of the superior qualities of digital painting is I can try/draw different outfits on different layers without having to start the whole picture over.

Shoot! (Sketchy Nude)

Shoot! (Less sketchy, phantom clothing)

Later I'm gonna finish out the clothes and add colors and such to 'em too. Maybe try layering some armor, and of course, that bow's going to need some work.

Still working on a lot of things from faces to dynamic poses to lighting. My quest for skill continues! *fistshakes*
