No, no it isn't!
Lets be honest. We are all itching to kill each other. So why not do it in a cordial manner with a nice, big, team PvP tournament?
Date: Saturday, January 31st
Time: TBD (Whatever is best for all timezones)
What: Team PvP Tournament - Teams of 4 to 6 players representing any level of organization, from none to Settlement.
Style: Round-robin, most points wins
Where: Iron Guantlet
Fee: Any one of the items below. Must be raw- not salvaged- materials of the highest quality. Payment at time of registration on Tournament day.
Prize: 1st - 2/3 of Entry Fees; 2nd - 23% of Entry Fees; 3rd - 10% of Entry Fees (plus additional prize support provided by GW and Sponsors, if any)
Entry Fee Options
Iron 500
Silver 300
Coal 300
Copper 100
Bloodstone 30
Greenweed 50
Weak Adhesive 100
Pelts 75
Other Gems 75
Weak Sanguine 100
Pine 200
Settlements and Companies that would like to sponsor the event by providing additional prize support or support for volunteers, PM me.
If you are interested in helping organize the event, PM me.
If you would like to volunteer to stream and record fights, PM me.
10% of the entry fee plus whatever Sponsors provide will go towards compensating volunteers for their time - that includes me!
If GW would like to sanction the event by providing additional prize support, that is also welcome ;)
Rules:
1) Teams must be between 4 and 6 members.
2) No holds barred save one: No combining staffs/wands with heavy or medium armor.
Other:
- Points system TBD - open to suggestions.
- Round-Robin style PvP since we will none of us had too much practice with organize group PvP. A Round-Robin will give everyone equal opportunity to learn and adapt through out the tournament.
- Rules 1 and 2 are set in stone. Feel free to share any other rules that should go with this event.
- Any other comments or important points you feel need to be made, post below!
- Finally, yes, the combat system is not finished and has lots of issues with it, especially where team PvP is concerned. But these issues are universal and things we will have to deal with anytime we engage in PvP, be it fighting over a tower, a trade route, resources or a young maiden/boy-maiden. Best get used to them, now!
- Entry fees are based on a combination of rarity on the game map, scarcity in the market, and time spent to harvest.

Some more ideas:
4 battle locations:
Tower
Field or Forest
Hillside
Road
Teams battle each other twice, 4 minute timer per battle, 2 minutes between battle to reequip and switch sides, leaving 10 minutes between matches (20 minutes total per match)
Teams can register up to 8 characters, allowing for 2 substitutes, but only 6 can take the field at a time
If a team does not have 4 people to take the field, they automatically forfeit that battle
Players/Characters can only register with one team

Ah, a tournament idea...some folks may have had run ins with me (or as my DT Throrin Axehammer) talking up the idea of a Grand Tournament in-game. Several companies pitched this prior to alpha starting and I'm sure we could get them reengaged.
My goal, however, is not to just prove PvP strength but rather to bring the community together for a diverse set of experiences. Battle is certainly a part, but we can also establish a "Merchant's Square" for any interested parties to set up shop and sell their wares. There could be race challenges over some difficult terrain. Their could be debates, both planned and impromptu, for those of us that prefer words to smacking our opponents. It will be an opportunity for RP as well--the religious zealots among us could set up a soapbox, etc. Those that have encountered Erian and Throrin know that I (generally) try to play in character most of the time. Battles might be "all archers" or "all spells" to give some diversity to combat, in addition to a "Grand Melee". I'm sure folks can think of other fun options. This could be a 12 or 24 hour event, so folks across time zones have an opportunity both to contribute and to participate.
If the idea catches on, we could hold these monthly, and have the host settlement change each month (perhaps hosts bid to host the event, or maybe the biggest "winner" overall from the previous tournament gets the honor).
Now, I certainly don't intend to hijack your thing here, sspitfire1, if this doesn't sound like something you'd want to add. If that is the case, I can start a separate thread to cover the idea and facilitate planning.

I figured the GoT quote would give it some weight, but the sad truth is I'll probably be embarrassingly bad at PvP for a while. Silver Lining? I'm practically right next door to Golgotha :)

Sounds like you would like to volunteer to be an event organizer :)
Although I would prefer this be on the simpler side than a big extravaganza. It can get bigger with time.
@ "So many rules...": And there are more to come! :) Seriously though, its less about rules and more about setting fair and interesting parameters for the event.
@ "I don't fight in tournaments...": Ok, well, then don't participate :) Tournaments (and all sports) are a long standing tradition for both displaying might as well as sizing it up. They are also an excellent opportunity for promotion, recruitment and trade. And the more successful the tournament, the more costly it is *not* to participate ;) With that, when I see Cal and Nihimon on the field of battle (preferably standing at Nihimon's side, hint hint), then I will call this event a success.
EDIT: I missed the quote reference.

Yes indeed on the even organizer piece. Perhaps what we might do is coordinate your efforts for this specific effort and a larger overall event. I wouldn't be looking for anything more from you than what you'd already be doing here (unless you wanted to do more of course). We'd just line up the timing and location.

By my counts, you have 110% of the entry fee being paid out.
66% to 1st, 23% to 2nd, 10% to 3rd, 10% to organizers.
Hehe, I know. It goes like this:
10% of what is paid in goes out, then the prizes are paid out of the remainder at the rates listed above.
Savage, if no body signs up, there will be no tears because there will be no event! And god knows I am not going to waste my time on a non-event! In the mean time, it is entertainment to try and organize this.

I am thinking about the following points system since it is easy and can be arbitrated even if the judge is one of the contestants.
Each team starts the battle with 6 points.
For each character downed, that team looses 1 point.
The team with the most characters still standing at the end gains an additional 3 points.
In the even of a tie, both teams are awarded 1 point.
Teams that run with 4 players start with 6 points and can only loose a maximum of 4 points.
