Unique Class Cards - (Druid, Monk, etc.) in Campaign Additions?

Pathfinder Adventure Card Game General Discussion

Our family is new to the base game and love it! We're considering the Character Add-On Deck, however I'm wondering if there are unique class-specific cards included in the campaigns are you progress (for druid, monk, etc.)?

Follow-up question - can and do character classes from the different campaign settings ever play together? Example, would we be able to eventually have Runelords characters join and play with Shackles character deck classes in common adventures?

Thanks!

There are some but it could be argued that anyone could use them. Amulet of Fists (monk) and (good) attack spells for divine casters (Holy Light will probably be in your deck a long time). So if you want a divine character that uses attack spells, I might consider the RoR add-on essential.

For me, mostly the add-on decks give me enough cards to build basic characters for everyone without making too many compromises.

You can theoretically use any character in any campaign. By the rules, the characters have to start over at the beginning of the campaign...you're not supposed to take a whole character that has completed half of Skull & Shackles, with that character's card inventory and feats, and "import it" into the halfway point of Rise of the Runelords. But you can use any character from one box or deck in any campaign (right now, there are only two - a third one is coming soon).

The problem you may find is that some characters - for example, the Gunslinger - will have powers that won't be useful with the card-mix from Rise of the Runelords (e.g., character powers regarding firearms - there are no guns in Rise of the Runelords). There are also a lot of characters that have powers having to do with "barriers with the task trait," and there aren't any of those in Runelords. Things like that.

Which base set did you recently get? Glad you're enjoying it! I wholeheartedly recommend getting the character add-on deck for any base set you might happen to have. The characters are usually cooler and the unique boons found in those decks (IIRC, cards like the Deathbane Light Crossbow) are likewise very choice.

Actually there are two conflicting but both fully valid answers to that :

a) The game isn't really designed to mix match the base sets and their specific characters, you gonna lose some thematic doing so and may get to some strange interactions of powers or some unbalance between characters.
and...
b) This is YOUR GAME, whatever is fun for you and your family is a good idea. If you feel like it, mix and match. The base sets are - if not fully - at least largely sufficiently compatible to let you play for fun anyway. Just enjoy.

The campaigns (RotR / S&S) are designed to support the Add-On Deck's classes all throughout the adventure path. No cards are class-specific per se, since almost all cards are useful to more than one class.

For example, Cure or Holy Light might seem like cleric-specific spells, but any class with a Divine skill will find those spells equally beneficial as a Cleric would.

Even the Amulet of Mighty/Fiery Fists may seem monk-specific but even the druid will find it equally useful if she doesn't have any attack spells/weapons

There will be a lot of potions/bows/amulets/blessings to support the monk role in throughout the RotR campaign. Same goes for animal allies/divine spells for druids, weapons/divine spells for paladin, and basically anything can be useful for the berserker.

All characters, regardless if they're from base set/add-on deck/class deck, are designed so that it is possible for them to be played on any campaign.

The Add-On deck characters are designed to be played for the campaign its made for. The name "Rise of the Runelords Character Add-On Deck" can probably tell you what adventure path they were made for.

But that doesn't restrict those characters to only that adventure path(campaign). You can play the monk/druid/paladin/berserker on Skull & Shackles (or Wrath of the Righteous) and have no issues whatsoever.

Some characters however, have powers that are specific to that adventure path and may not be as useful to a different adventure path.

For example: Lirianne the Gunslinger has powers regarding firearms. S&S obviously has enough firearms, but there aren't any on RotR so she wouldn't be as viable. But technically you can still play her in RotR. Most players that do, decide to add the firearms from S&S and mix it with the RotR cards and voila.

All Class Deck characters come with the cards that support them, so they are designed to be compatible with any adventure path as long as you bring all the cards in the deck with you.

I am playing a 4-player game. One of the players only wants to play the gunslinger Lirianne despite being warned that she might have issues in ROTR. He is allowed to draw cards from the S&S base set, but other than that we haven't had too many problems and he's been as useful as a normal ranger class so far.

I am designing an adventure series that incorporates both boxes, as part of the selling point of the game was that you could mix anything together if you wanted to. That's proving to be much more difficult.
