Campaign Updates

Pathfinder Society

As the war against Cheliax kicks up, new Pathfinder agents find themselves called to join! As of May 23, 2025, the following updates have gone into effect:

  • The strix ancestry (Lost Omens Ancestry Guide 132) is now available to all Pathfinder Society characters. Players who have previously purchased a strix ancestry boon from the boon store can re-download the file to gain access to a free resurrection for their strix character(s).
  • The boon for the automaton ancestry (Guns & Gears 36) has been reduced in cost from 160 Achievement Points to 80 AcP.

Additionally, at or before Gen Con we hope to add new boons to the Achievement Points store which will allow wizards to expand the spells accessible through their schools. Stay tuned for more information as we have it!

Starfinder Society

Starfinder Society (second edition) launches at Gen Con 2025! In the next few weeks, we should get the Guide to Organized Play out to everyone, along with updates to our landing pages and Character Options pages. In the unlikely event that any of this misses that date, however, I wanted to compile everything you’ll need to know to get started.

  • All Starfinder Society (second edition) adventures are repeatable. Players may play them as many times as they like with a different character each time. A character may never have more than one Chronicle from the same adventure, as this breaks the timestream and the hounds of Tindalos start showing up.
  • Starfinder characters may begin their adventuring career at 1st, 3rd or 5th level. Regardless of level, a new character begins with 0 XP. Characters may be freely rebuilt until they reach 12 XP and are played at their next session.
  • Players have access to all options in any Starfinder rules source they own, regardless of rarity. Exceptions include any Unique items, and any options specifically restricted on the Starfinder Society Character Options page.
  • The Starfinder Player Core is the only “core source” for the campaign. Players are not required to own the Player Core to use the options contained within it. Players must own other books, such as the Starfinder Galaxy Guide, to make use of their options.
  • Starfinder Society character numbers start at -2701.

Please read our series of launch reveal blogs for more information on what’s to come!

Sanctioning Updates

Since our last blog, the following rulebooks and adventures have been sanctioned for Pathfinder Society play & use!

You can find out more on the Pathfinder Society Character Options page.

Free RPG Day

This year’s Free RPG Day adventures have also been sanctioned for play! Please note that per our agreement with Free RPG Day, these are not permitted for play until July 22, 2025; as such, I have disabled reporting for these adventures until that date.

GM Recognition

Campaign Service Coins

In the past few months, several new Campaign Coins have been awarded! We award these coins to members of the community who have gone above and beyond to provide an exceptional program to the community at large. Campaign Coins are awarded based on nominations; if you believe someone in your community is deserving of this award (whether or not they are a Venture Officer), send an email to organizedplay@paizo.com with their name and reasons.

Congratulations to:

Bret Indrlee, who now holds a campaign coin and OP ID #873

and Randy Cronin, who now holds a campaign coin and OP ID #910.

GM Ranks

Whether stars, novas, or glyphs, achieving a 5 ranking in any program involves a substantial amount of time. To achieve the 5th milestone, a GM must run 150 games, of which at least 50 must be unique scenarios and 10 special scenarios as well as run between one and three games for venture-captains (program dependent). A conservative estimate of the time needed to reach the 5th milestone is 650 hours!

This month we had three GMs reach their fifth rank!

5th Star (PFS1): Redelia

5th Nova (SFS1): Ed Emmer, Kishmo

If you believe you’ve completed your 5th rank but haven’t been announced yet, please email me at organizedplay@paizo.com.

Conventions

Gen Con is just on the horizon, but it’s also time to start planning your fall schedule! Check out the Conventions calendarfor upcoming events in your area and be one of the first to experience Starfinder Society for second edition.

Until next time adventurers - Explore! Report! Cooperate! It’s off to the stars with us!

I had the pleasure of evaluating Kishmo, absolutely one of the best SFS1 GMS out there, if you ever have the option of playing at his tables, I can very much recommend the experience.

Wow. I never have to suffer through a L1-L3 evergreen rinse and repeat again? People can just start a L5 PC so you can basically almost always run a prepped scenario? Everything is just auto repeatable so we don't have to constantly track what PC did what (just what that specific PC did).

Good changes.

Will there be a Foundry VTT module to the new season of Starfinder Society?

Huh, did they change the possible starting levels? I thought previously we could start at higher levels. That's a bit of a shame. But love everything else!

Can't start at higher levels cause there won't be higher level scenarios this year. That we already knew.

Congrats Kishmo!

And remember everyone, don't play around with the time, watch your angles, and the nice time minder doggos won't bother you. We're watching you, witch-warpers.

Thank you, everyone, for your congratulations - and thanks to all those who've played in my games! I couldn't've done it without you, and the Online Region (because I live in the city from Footloose that hates dancing, but also TTRPGs, strangely? Some day, our Kevin Bacon prince will come.)
Congrats to our new coin-holders, and my fellow Five Thingy-Havers!

Excellent! Time for Showtime Joro to start planning their galactic tour...

Exo-Guardians

Did the levels we could start at for SFS2 change? I was thinking it was 1 or 2. I guess we should all be level 1 to begin with at Gen Con if we're running through all the new SFS scenarios in order?

There is a part of me that wants to create like 690 new PFS2e characters and see what happens when I try to register my -2701 PFS2e character. I'm not going to do it, but I'm still curious about it.

Will Mechanic and Technomancer be allowed as Society characters, or do we have to wait until those are officially released?

Mechanics and technomancers are permitted in Starfinder Society using the playtest rules; upon release, we will have further information on converting your characters to the final rules.

Thank you for this by the way. I am very grateful you all are allowing those two classes at SF2 release.

I played at Galaxy Con. Will the DM who hosted that game please contact me?

CONGRATS Kishmo!

Well deserved. I have had a great time at your high level tables over the last year especially as Keskodai dealing with the order of the crucible.

Thanks for all the handy hint on my operative that now has...other things to look forward to.

See you in SF2 hopefully!

I hope this is the right place to ask.

Is there a chance that Pathfinder Society adventurers can also start at level 3 or 5? I run a small PFS and I have the problem that I have too few players if I want to run adventures of level 5+, because I don't have enough regular players to get at least 3 players.

This option would help enormously.

It would also help if all adventures were generally repeatable for Pathfinder Society Agents.

Bret Indrelee has been a tireless organizer in Minnesota, and helped rebuild the region post-covid. I was so delighted when he got his campaign coin!

Randy Cronin, congratulations to you as well for all your hard work - campaign coins are not handed out lightly.

Kishmo, Ed and Redelia -- Congratulations! I love to see the Stars and Novas continue flying about, especially with devoted and wonderful volunteers like yourselves!

No, but there are level 3 and level 5 pregens, so you can always play a session of up to level 5-8 even if you don't have a character in-tier.
