kitsune mystic theurge build

Advice

so sad, the aasimars and tieflings have all gone home. How now to early-access the mystic theurge? Magical Tail!

race: kitsune
class: ecclesitheurge cleric 2 (of Picoperi), wildblooded sorcerer 3, mystic theurge 7
domains: Trickery (primary), Chaos (secondary)
bloodline: Celestial (Empyreal)
stats: Str 7, Dex 14, Con 14, Int 13, Wis 16, Cha 13
feats:
1: Magical Tail
3: Magical Tail
5: Magical Tail (this gives you misdirection, which fulfils the arcane prestige class requirements)
7: (off the rails here) Point-Blank Shot
9: Precise Shot
11: Weapon Focus (blowgun)

Pros
1. Access at 3/2. Not the best by planetouched standards, but good nonetheless.
2. A mix of prepared and spontaneous casting.
3. 5th level arcane and divine spells.
4. SAD casting (Wisdom)
5. Sorta kinda on-theme (holy trickster foxman of heaven!)

Cons
1. 3 feats
2. All the other weird cons that you get with a mystic theurge
3. Race does not come with a +Wis bonus.

Some questions

1. Any improvements to the general concept? I hadn't seen Magical Tail mentioned in a mystic theurge guide, is that good to go?
2. What to do with the feats at 7, 9, and 11?
3. Picoperi's favored weapon is the blowgun. Okay, so how to make that great? The only poison that seemed on-message was bloodroot, and that still deals Con damage. What kind of poisons, tricks, blowgun powers, whatever, would be good for the demigod of jokes?

bumpily bump?

Wait... did I miss something? Do Aasimars and Tieflings no longer qualify for Mystic Theurge from their SLAs? Or is that not what you were saying?

I think he means for PFS.

Ah. Whew! ;)

Wait, were they never allowed in PFS? Or was there some change? ...I don't keep up on PFS stuff.

Lune --

Aasimars and Tieflings were allowed as non-boon character choices in Season 5 of PFS. Any character started then is grandfathered. However, no new Aasimar or Tiefling PCs can be created in PFS without a boon.

They vary out what exotic races are legal season by season.

Hmm

That seems rather arbitrary.

The biggest penalty I'm seeing is that you're not going to get access to second level spells until level 6 for either class. My recommendation would be to take your sorcerer levels first, but go ahead and take all four of them for your second level arcane requirement, before taking a single level of cleric with the trickery domain to qualify for mystic theurge. You enter mystic theurge at the same time, but you have had second level spells for a full two levels earlier with sorcerer and you have freed up three feats from magical tail. What sort of spells or theme did you intend to focus on in this build, I can help more knowing that, but given the idea of Picoperi, I'm going to assume something to the tune of illusion or enchantment. You may want to use the magical tail feats on spell focus and greater spell focus feats to increase the DCs on the schools that you will be using most, perhaps investing in improved initiative as well so that you can shut down your opponents before they can properly react.

Based on your comments about the aasimar and tiefling and the 12 level build, I'm assuming you're playing PFS, in which case, I regret to inform you that most poisons are not legal for play. Even when they are, you will generally get more benefit from investing in your spells. I have seen a warpriest do fairly well with a blowgun, though. I am fond of using the poisoned sand tube, however. Even when it's not full of poison, it makes a decent way to reveal invisible enemies in a 15 foot cone by covering them in sand and powder.

As far as other fun spells and tricks, don't be afraid to fall on old classics. Pilfering hand, grease, illusions of fake pits and illusions over real pits, mad monkeys, glitterdust, ill omen, hideous laughter, etc. There are a wealth of opportunities for spells that you can use to simply ruin your opponents while laughing madly at the jokes you've pulled on them.

Ohaku, sorry that we've derailed your thread.

A tangential aside about PFS race choices:
Maybe, but I think that there are enough options. The core races are always available. In Season 6, you also have the option to make Kitsune (my personal favorite), Tengus, Wayangs and Nagajis. I think that offers enough variety that people can have some good choices to choose from.

Other races are available as GM boons -- one of the ways that Paizo encourages people to step up as GMs.

Frankly, I think that one of the reasons that aasimars and tieflings were retired is that the variable stat array caused an overpopulation of these characters. I never got a chance to build one because I started in season 6, but I sure play with a lot of the ones that were grandfathered! It seems like every PFS group that I play in has at least one aasimar or tiefling.

For the most part, I can create most of the concepts that I want to try with the available races. One of the major exceptions of course is early entry mystic theurge.

I think that your concept should work. I like the idea of a kitsune built around a trickster god. The main thing that I am missing here is the feat realistic likeness. The great thing about Realistic likeness (especially when combined with sleeves of many garments) is that you can literally become any human you've met.

Aside involving Realistic Likeness, Sleeves and a Sandwich:

After we took out a bandit guard, my maestro kitsune sorceress walked into the main group of bandits looking exactly like him, while pretending to eat a sandwich.

(Why a sandwich? Because I never heard him say anything other than the scream when he died. I had to give myself some reason for not talking.) I got into the middle of the group, started up a my Fascinate bardic performance, and ensnared the lot of them while my team took them out one by one. It was great.

My favorite thing about kitsune is the shapechanging. While I suppose you can get a bit of that same effect with the "disguise self" spell from your tail, I don't want you to miss out on this awesome feature.

Hmm
