Lord Inventor Reldic Emerson |
so this is just an interest check for the upcoming December month. The idea behind this game is simple-
Its medieval Europe and magic is fading away. It is becoming scarcer and scarcer in the world, why? no one knows, but recently those arcane magic users left, and even those divine users that refuse to join the "church" of the true god, and to shun the old deities (pathfinder deities)are being persecuted and slain. Magic is something now more feared than anything. Magic Items are also weakening, blades that once hummed with power are now rusty, cracked, useless paper weights. While the ebb of magic is also reducing the beasts and creatures that roamed the lands some still remain, the dead still rise, and dragons are still seen in the mountains. The land is war torn, as factions vie for power, chaos rules. The elves retreat across the seas, the dwarves delve ever deeper into the Alps, gnomes rarely leave the forests, or there towers of creation. This is a land in need of heros, A land hoping for hero's. will you be the one to save Europe? or will you lead it to its destruction... only time will tell.
so, as you can see its a bit of a strange idea, but one I want to try out. Basically, take all that is Golarian, and smash it into medieval Europe. There are SEVERAL end out comes to this depending on what you the players will do. there are several groups and conspiracies you can either ignore, take part in, or attempt to stop. It is almost entirely open sandbox. with certian things happening all the time. (think of it like this, if you could A) go to a tourney, or B) save a village, if you chose to go the the tourney then that village is most likely gone.) of course relative time will be kept.
each race will have several sub factions within it, including the elves.
still interested? good! lets get to what you have kept reading to see!
we will be using a stat rolling system I greatly enjoy for low magic games, as, if your gear isn't heroic, you have to be. Also I would like to make sure everyone keeps loose tabs on there encumbrance.
please make a chart 6x6 on a sheet of paper, roll 6 4d6s for each row, and fill them in descending (in order rolled). after you fill all of them in, you may choose any row, vertically or horizontally, or you may chose a diagonal row, but they must always retain a total of 6 stats. (diagonals would be from top left (1,1) to bottom right (6,6) and vice versa)
here is a diagram.
123456= row

2 traits, 1 drawback for another.
1 free feat of which you must meet prerequisites.
if you would like I can provide you with an image to base your build off of. (all are equally epic, I assure you).
max hp,
3rd pp on case by base basis
races- only humans, elves, dwarves, gnomes, halfings, and half-orcs, please (if you have a particular idea for something else, PM me and we will discuss it, I am highly flexible.)
if you wish to play a wizard, or the like, you may, but be prepared for prejudice and worse. (while not everyone is of the new mindset, it has become the norm of the peasants and lowly folk of late) so no, PCs are not required to have this closed mindedness.
deities- may follow any PF deities, or choose to follow a "faith"; catholic, Islam, orthodox, or for any eastern characters Buddhism/Shinto
hmmm let me know if I left anything out.

Also curious, how much does the low magic affect wizards and the like? Do they still get everything as normal?

sorry, yes do drop the lowest d6. sorry about that,
at the dragon, roll on here is a spoiler, (but not d63s! lol) but it would be easier for others to simple write the rolls out on a sheet of paper at home. It seems a bit complicated at first but its really easy.
also, there is no rush as I wont be starting until late November (due to school)
also I noticed I forgot to say one thing, we are starting a level 2.
all special materials from golarian are present in this campaign as well.

Let's try this again. I was trying to get the dice-roller to accept "4d6b3" as code. Apparently it ignores standard text and just reads it as "4d63".
Anyway.
4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 4, 3) = 144d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 3, 4) = 124d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 3, 3) = 84d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 3, 1) = 134d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 1, 1) = 114d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 4, 4) = 17
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 6, 1) = 104d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 5, 5) = 144d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 6, 2) = 114d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 5, 1) = 124d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 3, 6) = 184d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 4, 4) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 6, 4) = 164d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 4, 5) = 184d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 1, 6) = 164d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 1, 1) = 114d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 2, 5) = 134d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 5, 4) = 13
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 2, 2) = 74d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 4, 1) = 94d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 1, 4) = 144d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 4, 6) = 174d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 5, 1) = 154d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 4) = 18
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 1, 4) = 124d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 4, 6) = 164d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 3, 4) = 174d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 4, 6) = 184d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 3, 2) = 154d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 5, 1) = 13
I wonder what the likelihood of rolling no stat above 15 or below 6 is, over the course of 36 instances of 4d6b3. Anyway.
Can we arrange our statlines as we like, or should we take them in order of apparance, strength through charisma?

Interested! I've been looking for a low magic type game for a while.
Looking at something in the paladin, cavalier, or ranger for the initial class (Human in any case).
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 2, 6) = 124d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 5, 6) = 204d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 1, 3) = 94d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 3, 4) = 134d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 6, 6) = 184d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 2, 1) = 9

4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 6, 6) = 194d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 5, 5) = 214d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 2, 3) = 124d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 5, 6) = 214d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 2, 2) = 114d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 4, 1) = 12
4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 6, 3) = 164d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 6, 4) = 144d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 3, 2) = 114d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 6, 3) = 144d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 4, 2) = 114d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 5, 2) = 13

After dropping the lowest from each that leaves:
11 16 08 11 16 08
14 10 16 14 11 07
17 16 10 17 10 11
15 13 11 13 09 12
12 12 13 10 12 12
12 16 10 12 14 16
Hmmm which row to take...thinking it will be the second from the left, vertical. (16, 10, 16, 13, 12, 16)
Now to give that character some more thought.
I assume divine magic is similarly restricted to the way arcane is?

@ashe, level 2.
@dragon, put them down in order rolled please. seems you have the hang of it.
BACKSTORY NOTE: you may choose to be part of an order if you so wish. There are several.
The order of the cloth: Basically the catholic priesthood of the time, any remaining divine casters that are not branded as heretics would remain here.
The fighting Chance (Mercenary guild): Sprang up in france not long ago. Draws many men, both great warriors and fodder, with the chance of earning gold as great as the nobility.
Army: whether your a deserter, lone survivor, or just on holiday, most of the populace would be from this group. (positions include, archer, footsoldier, knight, fodder, royal guard,)
Cloister: Latin monks, while most were never training in combat, some might have wanted to learn in order to defend against the encroaching chaos.
Dragons Last: one of the larger remaining groups of arcane magic users. these members communicate through magical messages and biannual gatherings. there number one goal for now is simple. Survive, number 2, restore magic to the world. whether this is a good thing or a bad thing... noone is sure.
peasant: you are just a lowly commoner, working the fields or smithies in a town owned by a noble. However fate smiled on you perhaps, and gave you a chance.
Inquisition: Order started in spain, seeks out all heretics and, painfully (if possible) puts them to death. Works along side the Order of the cloth most of the time, however the latter's morals conflict with the Inquisition groups work from time to time.
note that all core races are represented in all of these, the only race that receives true prejudice are the half orcs. However elves are looked upon with slight distrust for there long lives and "triksy" ways.
--- if you come up with something not covered here, by all means ask about it and could quite possibly fill it.
I will eventually post more detailed info in the campaign info.

Sorry about this, I just have to be absolutely sure I'm understanding you correctly.
If I were to take the spread Horizontal 4(15,15,15,10,11,12 in that order), my stats would be

Is this correct?

4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 6, 6) = 18
Column 6
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 1, 1) = 12
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 3, 5) = 16
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 5, 4) = 21

15 14 9 15 7 11
15 15 13 9 13 13
11 5 13 6 14 17
17 12 14 18 12 13
10 11 12 8 7 15
8 13 12 16 16 13
Edit: Woops I did colums not rows not sure if it changes things it should be
15-15-11-17-10-08
14-15-05-12-11-13
09-13-13-14-12-12
15-09-06-18-08-16
07-13-14-12-07-16
11-13-17-13-15-13
Nope not much change: using Column 4
looks like: Row 4: 18,17,14,13,12,12
Thinking Cavalier maybe.

@dragon, put them down in order rolled please. seems you have the hang of it.Sorry about this, I just have to be absolutely sure I'm understanding you correctly.
If I were to take the spread Horizontal 4(15,15,15,10,11,12 in that order), my stats would be
str15, dex15, con15, int10, wis11, cha12, and I would not be able to move those around.
Is this correct?
no, my bad I misunderstood your question, once you select a spread you may place them in any order you so desire.

Talomyr wrote:Just to be clear, is the setting a more fantastical medieval Europe or a magic shattered Golarion?good question. I never thought about it like that. Off the top of my head I would say a fantastical medieval Europe.
Ok, so we are looking at the countries and kingdoms of medieval Europe. Got it. Do you have a particular location in mind for the start of the game?

Sorry for excessive questions:
Starting at 2nd level, does that mean that we are starting with 1,000 for equipment?
A previous low magic game I was in had a modified version of masterwork equipment to compensate for the lack of magic (six levels total, instead of just normal and masterwork). Is this something you might look into for this game?
As you said, arcane magic is looked at with disfavor, is divine magic looked at in a similar fashion?

ever watched full metal alchemist? in Europe the catholic church has all but taken over public opinion, unless you are a member of there order, or on rare occasion, gifted a "permit" to practice it, yes. (it would be a medallion wrought of silver) however permits won't be available at character creation. otherwise you are a heretic and pagan. to most, not everyone, (elves have the most... tolerant society) but the fantasy races are extremely a minority. so. eh.
as for that, magic weapons WILL be around, just, a +1 blade would be, well, not even the all kings have magical equipment.

here you go Aegis
Its a full BAB class, it doesn't get psionic powers it can call on armor or if you go aberrant archtype it phyiscaly modifies its body.
some of the "customizations seem a bit gamey, but for now I will allow it.

Hrm, would a sacred fist warpriest from the Cloister be allowed with the divine powers and all?

Note that you can get vertical rows(columns) too. In your case it's a moot point, as the horizontal bottom one is clearly miles ahead of everything else.

Starting location is something I haven't decided upon, several thoughts come to mind.
Paris, France
Rome, Italy
London, England
Toledo, Spain
or even Moskovia Muscovy. (russia)
each starting point will effect the first "quest line" so to speak, however this certainly can be ignored.
also another note,
Latin is the common language of most aristocrats however peasantry are less likely to know it. (though they may understand some of it)
each country will follow its IRL language. with each race keeping its "own" language as well. However, the following languages will not be used
Celestial, gnoll, orc, giant, goblin.

So work is a little busy for full character at the moment so basic idea.
Sir Gregory Alistair of Ashton. English Knight that left on Crusade with King Richard in 1189 to retake the Holy Land. He made a pivital move in the battle of Acre to help take the city, but was wounded and left there to mend. He was taught a mystice art from a Saracen that gave him the ability to armor himself with mystic ability. He uses this to make himself seem wealthy possessing differnt forms of armor. He now travels and helps those in need when he can, and makes money through Tournament.
Basic idea. Let me know what you think. I don't want to pin down this date on everyone and could make a later date work as well. Tourney Fighting wasn't the big to do with all the pagentry and stuff untill the 1300's anyways up to the start of the hundred years war. So if we want to do that period I would be just go English knight Templar that traveld the path of the First Crusade and while in Jerusalem he saved a young Saracen that was thrown from his horse and stranded in the desert. He gave the boy food and water and escorted him home. There he lived for a year learning of their culture. The boys grandfather trained him and the boy in the mystic art. He now has returned home and doest the tourney stuff. I will do a full backstory once we nail down a date.
