Synthesis Summoner size question

Rules Questions

One of my players wants to be a synthesis summoner, but how does the size increase evolution work? If he takes the evolution that makes his eidolon Large, does he become large too?

On one hand, it seems that if he's "wearing" his eidolon, he would grow along with it. However, being a synthesist, it says your *eidolon* conforms to *you*. I mean, the thing basically becomes your armor, and you can't wear armor that's too big for you...

How would anyone else DM this?

(We're getting ready to do Emerald Spire, so being Large would be a pretty big inconvenience, hence why we need to know.)

Yes, the fused synthesist/eidolon creature would be large.

Agreed. I always pictured it like a translucent large creature with the Summoner "floating" in the center of it. Or a Kind of pilot like the Space Bot from Archer (or the loader mechs from Aliens)

There are things the synth can do to mitigate the size challenges. Reduce person is on the spell list as is alter self. Both will shrink him down to pass through tight spaces.

The only restriction is that the eidolon cannot be of a smaller size than the Synthesist. It can certainly be larger. There are actually some pictures floating around that show what the Large or Huge eidolon of a Synthesist Summoner might look like.

Yeah, do a Google image search for Jonah, or Gundam. That will give you a decent idea. ;)

Thanks, everyone! Maybe we'll just carry around a wand of Alter Self or something...

Now he wants to play a Celestial Commander Summoner, which still isn't helping their lack of space... le sigh.
