Xeen and I have been having the same issue in TK. Don't know yet if it is just isolated to those 3 hexes, but there is a higher density of players there than usual right now.
Basically, we get in just fine, get a few minutes (maybe?) of the general chat working and the NPC trainers being around. Then suddenly general chat stops working and all the NPC trainers disappear. I can still see other players, but they aren't moving. Thornguards are still there.
Re-logging fixes it. But then it comes back again. I'm leaving TK for the hills as soon as I finish up my TK business and hopefully that will be the end of my problems tonight.

Another update: The issue always seems to happen when I run through the heart of TK, where PC's are the densest.
Also, now that I have run well outside TK, all of the NPC and PC markers and Pins are still bunched together at the edge of the minimap. AT this point, they should have already faded off the edge.

Been having these issues from the start of Alpha 8/new servers.
Repeating the facts as I know them.
- I have access to fast fiber broadband at 3 locations from 3 different ISPs.
- the desynch issue as you describe is rare on two but common on the third
- the issue did not exist till Alpha 8/new servers (this may be coincidence but than again I was told this when commenting about parties breaking recipes in Alpha 7)
- it seems to come and go but is rare after midnight for me, this fits with suggestions made elswhee that the problem may be ISP throttling of goblinworks servers

I suspect this may be something different; but it could be related. I'm not that savvy on servers.
I confirmed that when I was out in the country side I had no issues. When I ran back through the heart of TK, I lost general chat. Approximate Coords were 0.27 S, 0.13 E.
If you have had this issue tonight and it was NOT while meandering through the heart of TK, please share!

I have had the same problems for all of alpha 8 as well. The problem is really bad an my crafter who is constantly changing between the 3 Thornkeep hexes - the hex transition seems to be what causes it for me. It usually manifests as a half second hitch crossing a hex boundary, then no interaction ability.

Interesting, because this is the first time I have had the issue. Granted, I also haven't spent that much time in TK until last night and tonight. The only difference, btw, between last night and tonight is the character density at the intersection of the 3 hexes.

Its an odd phenomena.
One interesting thing is PROVIDING I am not currently being hit or shot at when it first de-synch's, I seem to be able to run across a batch of hexes and then logout and will appear safe and sound at the new location when I log in.
Something of an exploit and handy fast travel. Partly makes up for the nuisance.

I have had the issue since day 1 of alpha 8
I blamed it on
Bad WiFi in my house (tried out an Apple Airport Extreme and a 20m cable - the latter reduces problems but doesn't eliminate them)
Bad ISP - throttling my bandwidth (thanks to PFO I noticed that my provider throttles my bandwidth. This increases chances of drop-off. Using my neighbours ISP did work better at certain times - but I noticed sometimes it doesn't help either or is even worse)
Being in Europe (Just assume it can't be that good as tracert tends to be 100-150 ms extra)
All these - and a slow computer - seem to increase the chances but are not the reason for a desync.
Other reasons that seem to increase the chance:
Interaction with other people - especially embarrassing when you have to go out of a trade offered some free stuff or trying to help someone.
Crossing hex borders
Dense number of people around you
I think it has to do with data send back and forth. Certain loss of data is tolerated, certain loss of data is fatal. Maybe instead of data being lost it also can be new data overtaking older data and causing this.
Bad connections or situations with bursts of data exchange will then increase the chances that you have a problem. This truly is a problem for PvP situations. You can't do PvP if you can't rely on your connection and come back dead whenever a group with better connection attacks you and throws you out of the server before you are even dead.

Some further observations on desynchronisation:
I've had this happen outside TK as well, and sometimes while standing round in the inn. One particularly bad time was up in the hills with the ogres, where it seemed that every time I logged back in I was in fact dead, and found myself back at Pharasma's shrine. The next day, when things were a little better behaved, I saw that there were a bunch of wolves just near the shrine - maybe they'd been killing me each time I desynched?
Thanks to some other helpful folks, I found that chat commands issued while desynched ARE heard by other players, but were not acknowledged to me (but when I logged back in people said they'd been able to hear my complaints). Similarly movement seems to work as it's going from my computer to the server, but nothing comes back.
I only got into the Alpha at 8, so I can't comment on this being a new thing.

My experience:
-PC stop moving
-NPC still there but not interactable
-crafting stations not interactable
-trade does not work
-chat seems disrupted, not sure though
I experienced this while multiboxing to trade with myself: Hogar wanted to pass some stuff to Dergard. Dergard seemed to log in properly, but PC on his minimap weren't moving while they were on Hogars minimap. When Hogar initiated /trade, there was no trade popup on Dergards UI. Tried this several times, relogged Dergard several times, gave up.
Maybe connected to this:
-Playing with Hogar yesterday, shortly before i wanted to log off, i went to TK.
-Had the issues in TK described above, relogged, felt through a wonderful blue sky. ;)
-Relogged again, client tells me something of my map couldn't be loaded.
-Tried again and was this time standing in the sky (no land to be seen) with strangely blurred arms.
-Relogged, still sky. Killed myself, respawn in TK. Couldn't move, relog.
-Everything fine. ;)
