If'n it'll be ready already in October, I might try and snag it in time for my gamer daughter's B-day at the beginning of November. That would mean no pics with the Yule Tree, but I could snap some shots of the look on her face when she opens her presents...

I wish I could say with certainty at this point, but Lightning Source kicked it back twice saying it wasn't the right format. I've been doing layout for over a year with them now, and this is the first time we've gotten an error like that.

Once I sort that out, I'll update again and possibly PM you as well in case this thread has fallen to the wayside by then.

Looking forward to the physical release of this book, I've been having a lot of fun reading through the .pdf and playing around with character and adventure ideas.

We did an "anything goes" one off a few nights back with a group that included a luchador, a monster trainer with a water dog, and a few other non-traditional characters and had a lot of fun. It was nice to see how well the monster trainer clicked in with a group of non-trainers and how easy it was to pick up the mechanics and playstyle of the class.

Awesome. This is the kind of thing that I love seeing. I'm incredibly happy to hear about this, and I hope your post encourages more anecdotal replies.

BTW, I'm going to share this post over on Facebook so others can enjoy it too.

Please do!

A specific moment we had that everyone got a kick out of was when the party was confronted by a rust monster. Normally, those things are enough to send a party running for the hills, but in this game the elven luchador and the dwarven sumo wrestler (both from Little Red Goblin Games) look at each other and shrug, the vizier and and vitalist (Dreamscarred Press) stick their be-ringed hands in their pockets, and the Monster Trainer rushes out ahead of the group yelling "Dibs!!!!".

It was just hilarious to see most of the group not really care about a monster that's traditionally such a huge nuisance, and for my fiancee (the Monster Trainer) to be dashing forward while demanding I pull up the .pdf because she's positive she can catch this thing, and throwing out a "by the way, is it big enough for me to ride around on?".

In preparation for halloween and my upcoming first addition to Kingdom of Monsters, I will be posting previews throughout this month to a variety of places (Primarily facebook). Today's is the moncroak zombie. I'll add more each day.

The new book is Haunted Eve - Guide to the Scribe's Marsh, and it details the swampy region of the Kingdom, where trainers can find a few new and special monsters during the week-long celebration.

Enjoy; see you tomorrow!

wow, that would go nicely with the (recently finished) KS of Fen of the Five-fold Maw. Things look better and better :)

Now, about that HC...

Changing Man wrote:

Tell me about it. Lightning Source kicked it back twice saying the spine was out of alignment, and even the people at Drivethru RPG are scratching their heads about it. As soon as I know anything, you will :)

I think I want a print copy just to get a clear read on the abilities… ;)

@Ssalarn - sounds like an awesome game!!!

We've got some friends we've been playing with for a long time who no longer live near us, so when they get the chance to visit we usually try to do something memorable. A group that included a high-flying elven luchador, a dwarven E. Honda (complete with hundred hand slap), and the badass version of Ash Ketchum pretty much locked "memorable" down tight.

For today’s preview, the art request I'm putting in for Haunted Eve - A Guide to the Scribe's Marsh. I'm also posting this on Facebook for anybody who'd care to join us and get more frequent updates.

In the meantime, as we're now on the second page, I want to keep visibility to the Paizo store for Kingdom of Monsters, so here's a handy link. Enjoy!

NOTE: Anything that was already drawn for KoM but redone here will be in a different position. Usually more menacing, reaching out, or generally creepy.

1) Jinx Cat Companion (Binx) – Black cat with a witch’s hat on its head, similar to the Researcher in Kingdom of Monsters. The cat’s ears are sticking through the hat, like they’re a part of it. Its eyes glow blue. It’s sitting up, attentively, like something just got its attention. Its tail could be twitching.
2) Jinx Cat Hero (Ghanima) – Larger than the binx. Tiger-like, but the fangs are long. Its face is wide with glowing, blue eyes both alert and intelligent. The paws are enlarged to give support on uneven terrain and its claws can extend almost ten centimeters, sharpened at the ends into razor tips by abrasive compression of the sheath. Its coat shimmers between the black of the previous form and a flat, even tan color. It’s trying to stalk out of the page.
3) Jinx Cat Champion (Circemera) – Half-n-half (left/right) pure black and pure tan. One eye glows green, the other blue. Wisps of magic come off of it like steam, and its eyes feel like they’re following you as you move. The hat’s back, though it flops to the side with the black fur. Only the black ear pokes through it.
4) Skeletons: Crurotar, Scoundrite (the one with the hoop earrings), and owlbear.
5) Zombies: Gray Render, Hydra, and Moncroak.
6) Undead Treant: Leaves are gone, one or more crystals are broken. Compare to an old, dead tree for colors and any other things (like missing bark in places, etc).
7) Greater Bone Devil: Has wings like a pixie and is more dangerous looking
8) Crawling Claw: A severed hand with sharpened fingernails skittering about like a deranged spider.
9) Scarecrow: A scarecrow with flame spitting out of its eyes and mouth. It looks to be dancing.
10) Scarecrow skeleton lord. The farmer’s attire from the scarecrow is gone. The creature’s in a nice suit. It’s impossibly thin, made of bone. Its head is more like a skull, and the fire’s gone from it now. It stands menacingly.
11) Zoog: A stitched up combination of rodent parts, complete with wormlike tentacles around the snout.
12) Mogweird: white moggish with brown patches of fur. It has large, bat-like ears. It could be happily eating a candied apple. This pic is pretty much the only one not meant to be immediately creepy.
13) Fang Critter: A little ball of sharp quills. It has a mouth full of razor-sharp teeth and creepy, lizard-like eyes.
14) Gremlin monster: This thing’s head looks like it could have been a mogweird, but instead of fur it has reptile scales and coloration. It’s lanky instead of fat and its claws are sharp on thin, bony hands.
15) Gremlin Spider: Part gremlin, part spider
16) Gremlin Bat: Part Gremlin, part bat
17) Lightning Gremlin: A gremlin-shaped creature made of electricity.
18) Gremlin Farspawn: A gremlin with 4 arms and colored like the maimspawn (gray with swirls of green)
19) Grindylow: tentacle goblin creature
20) Festrog companion: A weaker version of the Festrog
21) Festrog Champion: A beefier, more powerful version of the Festrog
22) Fourclaw youth: A smaller, weaker version of the Fourclaw for trainers that want to raise one sooner.
23) Timeslayer Youth: A smaller, weaker version of the Timeslayer for trainers that want to raise one sooner.

Question 1: Is this a general call for artists to submit work for possible publication and/or use?

Question 2: Is there any 'Eeevee' creature/monster/option in M:KoM?

Changing Man wrote:

Sorry, not a general call. I have Raynaldo Perez doing the internal art and Jeff Porter handling the cover to help keep everything consistent with the first book. This was just a preview for those interested in knowing what monsters to look forward to in Haunted Eve. Time permitting, I may add more, but this is what I'm working with at the moment.

Changing Man wrote:

The Lagomorphs in Kingdom of Monsters are eevee-esque. Also, the Gremlins are going to fill a similar role in this book, though not quite to the same extreme.

Lagomo, Kena, Kylva, Isa, Daga, Laga, Lauka

Ooh, actually, thank you for the inspiration! I did some digging and will now be adding Ihwa to that list. Ihwa will be the lagomorph representation of poison and death.

No worries :) I wasn't sure how to interpret your use of the phrase 'art request'. I just have several people in my circle of friends who are (starving) artists, who also happen to be RPGer's and fans of Pokèmon.

Glad I was able to stoke the fires of creativity and imagination a tad :)
I know my daughter would go NUTSO about the chance to be an eevee-trainer in PF :)

She may like this pic, then, which will count as one-half of today's preview.

Lagomorphs

Note to self: When pretending to be a mature adult, do not look at a picture and go "Hee hee, bunnies!" where other adults can see you. This will completely destroy your ruse and reveal you as the 10 year old who never grew up that you really are.

Man, you've got every type of bunny under the sun! Fire, electric, ice, earth... Now the real question is, where are my fighting and psychic type? ;)

Woo-hoo! I'm excited to get a hard copy in my hands at last. Once I've got it I think I can finally convince our Saturday night GM to allow me to play Ash Ketchum Goes to Hell (or at least the Abyss for Wrath of the Righteous).

...

Not really, but my Soulknife/Dread/Dark Tempest has been taking some pretty big risks lately and I'd love to have a Monster Trainer as my backup character. Our GM for that game isn't really against 3pp, but he tends to go from "I'll think about it" to "seems legit" if I've got a physical copy I can hand him at the table. Paper makes the words more real I guess.

I can understand that notion. Whether in the 21st century or not, I still like a solid book in my hand when I'm at the table. Most of my group prefers the same.

All digital here, but best of luck to you =)

I posted today's preview, the introduction to chapter 2, over on facebook.

In addition to Facebook, I am also now posting previews to DeviantArt. You can take a look at this one (a story blurb like those found in Kingdom of Monsters) meant for yesterday there. I'll be posting today's preview a little later.

I've added the cover sketch for Haunted Eve - A guidebook to the Scribe's Marsh over on Facebook. Art credit goes to the excellent Jeff Porter.

So... print proof status? ;)

I received the proof, but there were color errors between the file and the printer that I was not made aware of until I had it in hand. Drivethru RPG helped me find the errors, and as soon as they get pushed through again, I'll reorder the proof. Sorry, this process doesn't usually take quite this long, but it does take a while.

In the meantime, Jeff Porter has been kind enough to finish the cover art for Haunted Eve - Guide to the Scribe's Marsh. I've added it on Facebook, and I wanted to share in the fun here, but unfortunately, it looks like pictures aren't an option from what I can tell.

Final call for monster ideas for Haunted Eve! I'm wrapping up the writing and art is coming in any day now, so if we want to peg down Ray for a couple more ghoulish monsters, now is the time. Comment here or PM me.

Next month, I'm starting on another short book like this one, dedicated to everybody's favorite, good-cheer, Wintry holidays in case you want to get to thinking on something for it now. Thank you!

Need an idea of what I'm looking for? Check out the first book on the Paizo store, now.

So, DriveThru says that the HC is available. Is this for pre-order, or is it really good-to-go?

Mark me as very interested in the answer to this question.

Also, there was some indication that those who had bought the .pdf could get a discounted copy of the print version...? Any hints as to whether that's going to be handled through the site where we purchased it, or a coupon, or...?

Ah, my bad. It looks like the available HC version is 4e D&D.

I have sent yours via PM (as we've been in communication). For anybody who purchased on Drivethrurpg, I sent an email, and I'm still researching how to check here or at least send notice to those who've purchased the PDF. Any help in that regard would be appreciated since I don't want to short anybody.

Excellent! It has been purchased :)

Also, SSSSHHHHhhhhhhhhhh!!! Don't let people know we've been in communication. They might get it in their heads that some enterprising designer at Dreamscarred Press noticed the distinct lack of Psychic-type monsters and approached you about a joint project mining the Psionic Bestiary and other DSP materials to expand your already awesome product line. And that would be... unfortunate.

*Looks around innocently* I just meant in regards to your request for a hard cover copy, but good point. I do have to argue, though, that there are at least 16 monsters with psychic-type potential (to use your phrasing). For example, these come to mind from Kingdom of Monsters, alone.

Castor (line), Celedeen, Carbuncle, Farrealmer (particularly thoughtspawn) Formite (line), Lagomorphs, Piskel, Proginor, Scamethyst, Tesoroo, Urbanel, and Viriga

Anyway, I have to agree that I wouldn't want to lead anybody on about such a potentially awesome thing.

Okay, I wanted to give the head's up, as it wouldn't be fair to spring this on anybody. I'm not going to be able to get everything done in time with Haunted Eve that I wanted. Family issues and surgery were involved in the delay.

With that in mind, I am still going to finish the monsters section and have it out as a "Halloween Monsters" expansion for now and include with it a discount (in some form) for the completed book when I can finish it. For the moment, you'll still be able to enjoy all of the awesome creatures that Haunted Eve brings with it, and once there's a chance for me to finish the rest of the guide to the Scribe's Marsh, I will make sure it's totally worth the wait.

Sorry for the inconvenience on my end, but I hope you still enjoy the Halloween Monsters pack when it's finished. I think I'll do the same thing with Christmas so as not to promise too much with too little time going forward.

Thank you. - Malcolm

The other thing I'd like to see is a healing monster who's better at condition removal. My cleribelle was great for fixing up team mates who'd had holes poked in them, but I couldn't find any monsters who gave more than maybe one condition removal spell. It would be nice if there was one monster who gave remove blindness/deafness, neutralize poison, cure disease, and the restoration spells.
