How was the escalation party?

I wasn't able to watch it. How was it? Did enough show up? Any recorded videos I can watch on it?

I've not yet heard about recordings, but it was a lot of fun, and Bonny said she'd be hosting more, at other hours of the clock. A few notes:

- Bonny set up several raffles for various Paizo- and Goblinworks-related items...including TWO ALPHA ACCOUNTS
- Those accounts were won by our very own board-posters Kemedo and Wyspr
- The winners, wonderfully, were each international players: one in Brazil, one in Australia
- We discovered that--with the current settings of Zog, at least--it's more time-consuming to knock down escalations than it might appear, but with only 12 players working together, it can certainly be done, with plenty of time around the edges for fun
- We peaked at over 100 folks watching Goblinworks' Twitch feed
- Kitsune discovered that the hospital aiding with his wife's pregnancy had pretty good Internet; he was able to play a good portion of the time, and give us updates on Mrs Fox and the Kit...best of luck!
- There was significant chatter about the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game; it sounds a lot of fun, so check it out
- Ryan Dancey was with us for most of the event; he told us he's addicted to watching the Alphas on Twitch, not least because he can see what they're learning and experiencing without affecting their play directly
- You'll be seeing many references today to waffles; it's an in-joke derived from last night's raffles (the command to enter was !raffle, and when you have a lot of sleep-deprived and slap-happy people, not a few of whom had been talking about Waffle House before play began...)
- Last, but not least: the Paizo boards went almost two hours without a single post...a possible record :-)

It was "fantastic"!

We had a dozen folks. I was hoping for more, but two solid groups was good. Escalations are serious business; you'll need a good number of folks, perhaps on the scale of a large-sized (50-ish) Company, to deal with them in a matter of hours.

I expect Bonny will be posting a video soon.

Pretty darned good summary Jazzlvraz.

I gave a good summary in my User Guide in the Escalations Section.

Have we ever heard how many Alpha invites have gone out, or how many Alpha players there are?

Thanks. We Veilures try to spread knowledge, of course.

If you want some video, I've got a little over 2 hours of the event on my twitch channel. I had to kill it toward the end because my internet was starting to choke. *shakes fist at Comcast and its inability to deliver purchased service*

It was freaking amazing!

But I think this felling isn't unrelated with my personal experience that night... I almost couldm't sleep! :D

I hear that, it's 3:50 am here atm, this is me trying to sleep.

Our tank was invaluable, but we learned that in order to beat down a remote escalation the tanks should be ferried there with something like Tensor's Disk (heavy armor is slowww). Fortunately we aren't yet having to deal with the full effects of fatigue/stamina drain so by sprinting all the time we were able to keep up (kinda sorta) with the looting prowess of Nihimon. Yes, his wife regaled us with anecdotes about it... be fast or be poor...

There's an answer to that, but I don't have $1000 lying around.

The melees even got to hit things a few times when the giant mob of wizards was distracted by a shiny thing.

Well, when Bonny does this again, we'll obviously be able to see whether more than 6% of them are available at other times of day or week.

Glad everyone had fun :). I wish I could have been there but Huran and I were teaching three people how to play Pathfinder.

It was great! Especially, getting to see a whole horde of people killing random stuff (or other party members with aoe's).

Heavy potted steel armor make Akak run slow.
Akak use bullrush and charge to get to monster before tricky magic users.
Akak want to run naked, but see no naked Barbarian to teach him the ways of the loin cloth.

I can guide you in the way of naked fighting, my child.

Maybe we should have an Ideascale entry for an "armour" option that hides the underwear and makes it look like a loincloth.

Awesome, sounds like it was a blast ! Thanks for the summary.

Many of the best things that happened at the escalation party were not in any video.

But did Cole get his dice? =P

If you were on Bonny' feed, you may not have seen AkAk. I think Nihimon was also blue team. This still new to me, but that is expected.

I'll get them to him next Paizocon. You know I'm good for it.

It was pretty good. A little slow at times, but fun all around. I just wanted to point out that views went up when Bonny took her hoodie off :P

Moobot is full of Lies~!

The worst part is that moobot is completely immune to bribes.

Goblin Squad Member

Or moobot running it's own raffles totally independent of the stream or any actual prizes.

Goblin Squad Member

Immune, hmm, I guess so.

I am not sure if there where any other clerics there, but hitting people with Minor Cure was difficult. Method was to select them (not an easy task if not in party), cast Minor Cure, attempt to run them over. The melee range meant that it looked like I needed to hug them to get the spell to go off.

I would like an addition to the Focus Achievement or another Achievement for getting a counter when you heal a downed PC.

Just curious, when casting a cure which requires touch like that(is what it sounds like), is the spell held after casting until you are able to smack your target with it? The idea that you have to target someone first and also get within melee after casting seems overly difficult. If it's going to be a melee range thing then no target should be required until you are trying to smack them with some healing love.

If you have to target like traditional MMO's then cast your heal but within melee, that could be too difficult. There's far too much moving around to try chasing after someone to heal them at melee range.

Goblin Squad Member

After reading all of the spells for Divine casters, there will be touch based healing and ranged based.

I think the way Clerics will work, with the current system, is to stick to probably the Fighter and concentrate on healing them, or whomever is stationary the most. Then, at later levels, can throw ranged healing to the whole party. Within the first month Clerics should have a ranged heal through Spells.

Right now, you have to double click on someone's name on your party UI to target them effectively, which is better than just having to click on their names. I do agree it is hard to heal, you have to follow them really close, but this is all apart of meaningful choices and strategy.

Once formation are in, Clerics will probably get better.

Scarab Sages

Tried a Cleric last night and healed to much monsters while fighting with them. Bad strategy, I will need a better one.

I found that F1 select me for heal, so F2 F3 F4 could be shortcuts to select the party.

Goblin Squad Member

Arumvorax said it was hard to select people who were not in his party for healing. It seems reasonable to think he was able to select his party members ok.

The formation interface should make multi-party raids much better.

Actions appear to have several steps in getting them to activate. The first appears to be <Target> since actions are greyed out without one. The second appears to be to queue the action (Minor Heal in this case). With the action activating once casting time and range conditions are met. Don't know if there are any screen shots / stream recordings of queued action that has not activated, but I tend to do it a lot and noticed a purple tinge when in that condition.

Casting Defending Weapon followed by Holy Lance and then walking towards the Bandit Archer is my standard opening sequence.

Yes, selecting people in my party was easy, not sure if I tried the F2 to F6 keys, but clicking the party window names was easy.

Awesome Live stream video of the Escalation Party!

Future parties would be great opportunities to highlight new feats and other additions to the game. ("Let's go attack the orc camps that first showed up yesterday!", or "Everybody equip a crossbow for a group picture!", or "Beach Party! Check out the swimming animations!")

And more raffles, of course!
