Incidentally, I've come to believe the only thing Iger ever actually did was buy other IP. And not all of those decisions have proven as beneficial as many would have you believe. I still don't think the company has recouped the cost of buying either Lucasfilm or Fox. And I doubt it ever will, at the rate it's going.

Belated Happy 95th Birthday to Clint Eastwood. One of the greatest (if not perhaps the greatest) living filmmakers.

The dog has been bathed and her kennel cleaned out. Hopefully, that puts and end to her funk smell, which has been plaguing us for the past few days.

Scarab Sages

I have showered, started the chicken marinating, and eaten lunch. Now I’m enjoying a well-earned beer. Though not a full one. I used 1/4 cup of it in the marinade, and didn’t want the rest to go to waste.

I was speaking with the old woman who claims to be my mother. She told me my older brother and his family lost one of their dogs to a seizure the other day. Apparently, the dog had them regularly and was on medication. Sad, but that’s how things go sometimes.

Hmmm…..I keep wondering when my son is going to realize he hasn’t eaten anything since sometime this morning. He missed lunch, and so far snack time as well. Maybe this means we’ll save money on food this summer….

Tired zombie is tired. And sore. I told the wife I wasn’t going for a walk tonight.

Scarab Sages

So I’m going to read for a bit. Then watch more of The Gentlemen.

Happy Monday?!?

Scarab Sages

We'll see. There have been omens of potential unpleasantness. However, that could just be my (entirely justified) mistrust of managers showing through. And perhaps a slight bit of paranoia.

Scarab Sages

Although, I did have a somewhat pleasant drive to the office. We're in "school's out" time, so I get to leave a bit earlier than usual. And despite having to stop for gas (which I forgot to do yesterday), I still made good time.

There was one gent who got a bit angry with me. Although more like angry with himself. I took advantage of his inattentiveness when the light turned green to get over in front of him and accelerate. He made a big show of also accelerating, to catch up and cut me off by getting over before I could. The joke was on him, however, in that I tend to stick to the far right on the interstate, since I'm only on for a very short distance.

I'm hoping to have a check from Accounts Payable today to send my PE License Application to Florida. I didn't hear from anyone on Friday that my check was ready. That could mean one of two things: (a) the young lady who handles the licensing forgot to tell AP the check was needed, or (b) someone in management told them not to cut the check (and that's where my mistrust and/or slight paranoia comes into play).

Scarab Sages

I finished watching The Gentlemen last night. Season One of the series, anyway. I may have to watch the movie that preceded it one night. Anyway, good show, with an interesting ending. It said there would be another season. Not sure when, but I look forward to it.

Scarab Sages

Ugh! The office is always a bit uncomfortable on Monday mornings. The AC shuts down over the weekend, and it's still in the process of catching up when I get here. So it's a bit warm inside.

Scarab Sages

My supervisor gave me a gift - a ramen themed sticky note pad. I told him I will treasure it always.

Scarab Sages

And the HR people sent out an updated dress code. I know I’m not the target of that. If they ever come out with a policy on cubicle decorations though…..

Scarab Sages

I’ve got to get my TWIC card. Again. Ugh.

Scarab Sages

Happy Tuesday!

Scarab Sages

So far, anyway. Didn't have too much trouble getting up and about. Had another good drive in to work. Where the day goes from here is anyone's guess.

Scarab Sages

We are going on a shop tour this morning. It's one of the companies we regularly get certain items and services from for projects - valves and automation. The company's facility is only about 16 or so miles away, and the tour is only an hour, so I don't expect to be out of the office for too long.

The wife was making pork chops for dinner last night. My daughter doesn't like them. Since my jaw is still bothering me, I didn't want to eat anything that chew. So I took my daughter to McDonalds. She got a happy meal. I got a vanilla milk shake. Not the best dinner, but it did taste good.

Scarab Sages

And brought back some happy memories. When I was a wee lad (before the dark times), my parents bought a house in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. We spent at least one summer fixing it up, then many years using it as a little place to get away from the cesspool that is New Orleans. Good times.

Anyway, during that first year or two, whenever we would leave my parents would swing through McDonalds and I'd get a vanilla milk shake.

That's one thing I truly miss. Spending so much time with my family. Family was a big thing when I was younger. These days, the only family I interact with 98% of the time is the wife and kids. Everyone else is either too far away or doesn't really care about interacting much anymore.

Scarab Sages

That's how it goes, though. You take the cards you're dealt and make the best hand you can with them. Sometimes you get lucky, and some new cards get dealt, often unexpectedly. That's how my wife and I came to be. The Universe isn't always fair or nice, but it is interesting.

I'm not one that tends to boohoo or get hysterical when things don't go my way. Maybe a bit of grumpiness, but I usually bounce back pretty quick. I just kind of try to roll with the punches as best I can.

Would that more people could do the same.

Scarab Sages

Look at me, getting all philosophical and reminiscing.

Anyway, since I finished The Gentlemen, I needed something else to watch. Since it's the beginning of the month, I checked HBO to see what was new. Found Split, the second movie in Shamalama's superhuman trilogy. Great movie, with an incredible performance by James McAvoy.

Scarab Sages

Obligatory "I can't post only 13 times in one day because it's bad juju".

Scarab Sages

Happy Wednesday?!?

Scarab Sages

To be honest, when I got up this morning, I wasn't quite sure whether it was Wednesday or Thursday. Turns out, it was the former.

Scarab Sages

Had a mostly good drive to the office this morning. A few idiots along the way, but nothing too bad. A few of the more annoying traffic lights as well.

Scarab Sages

Yesterday morning we went for the shop tour at one of the supply companies we do business with. Pretty much all they do is valves (including automated ones), along with certain modifications to those valves (pup pieces, stem extensions, boring). It was a cool, but brief visit.

Scarab Sages

We got some swag out of it, of course. I picked up a little notebook (with pen), a second pen, two notepads, a small towel to help keep cool when you've been working out, and a rubber cup.

Scarab Sages

We're also going to arrange for them to come out and do a lunch and learn with us. They've got two items of interest for that.

One is a pigging valve, which is a valve with a door on the side so you can put a pipeline pig into the line. You don't see a lot of those, mostly because it limits the size of the pig. It can be dead useful in certain scenarios, though. Especially when you're working with limited space.

The other item was a zero-emissions control system that can run up to eight different valves or serve as an emergency shut down. It's got a solar panel and battery backup.

Scarab Sages

After that, the day was kind of boring. Until I left for home. Along the way, I was slowed down by an accident where a vehicle got t-boned and knocked into a ditch (flipping it on its side).

Hoping today will be exciting, but in a good way (for me and everyone else).

Scarab Sages

We do have a lunch and learn later. This is with an outfit that does a lot of pipelines stuff: hot taps, in-service welding, pig launcher/receiver systems, etc.

Scarab Sages

Huh?!?

Apparently, June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month. I don't think I'd ever heard of that before. Personally, I think it's kind of a stupid thing to focus on. My own mental health falls somewhere between "huh" and "Go F#%& yourself".

Scarab Sages

Although I do think mental health is something that should get a lot more focus in the world. At the same time, I tend to think it's made more of a big deal than it actually is, mostly to support pharmaceuticals.

Scarab Sages

Ugh. This lack of projects to work on is really starting to make the work day boring as hell. I had a bunch of self-training stuff lined up, but I've worked through most of it. What little I have left is just reading through old specs or waiting on other people to give me the up to date specs to read through.

Like I said, boring.

Scarab Sages

Happy Thursday?!?

Scarab Sages

It's a mixed bag, to be honest. My stomach is bothering me more than usual, so I decided to work from home today. On the one hand, that means I don't have to drive to the office. On the other hand, my stomach is bothering me more than usual.

Scarab Sages

It's been bothering me ever since the lunch and learn we had yesterday. Usually, fajitas are pretty safe for me to eat, as long as I just stick with a bit of grilled chicken and the fajitas thing. In this case, that has proven to not be the case.

Scarab Sages

On top of that, the lunch and learn was kind of boring and pointless. Nothing I couldn't have learned from perusing the company's website for 10 minutes or so.

Scarab Sages

Ah well, they can't all be awesome or informative.

Scarab Sages

And at least I have a reason to not waste gas going to the office today.

Scarab Sages

Anyway, time for another thrilling day of reading through API 520 Part 1.

Scarab Sages

Ouch. Muh poor tummy. It's still upset and taking it out on the rest of me. I just feel blah.

Scarab Sages

The wife is trying to get the boy to accompany her to kickboxing. I wouldn't mind if he goes. It'd get him out of the house, and maybe he'd like it.

Scarab Sages

And remember:

You don't need a parachute to skydive. You need a parachute to skydive twice.

Scarab Sages

Hehehe...

There's been some interesting stuff in the news today. If my stomach weren't giving me some trouble, and my jaw wasn't bothering me so much, I'd be chowing down on popcorn while watching the fireworks.

I just hope it doesn't negatively affect some of the projects my company has potentially coming down the line.

Scarab Sages

Ye gods! I'm listening to a show on Youtube and they're discussing the next Alien movie. Apparently, it's a prequel to the original movie, with a Xenomorph ending up on Earth?!?

I say again, YE GODS!!! What idiot craps this nonsense out? Damn you Iger. This is all your fault.
