The scout troop's last school year camping trip was supposed to be this weekend. Unfortunately, the park we were going to has been closed due to flooding.
Luckily, one of the local districts is running a canoeing and kayaking event at a local park/preserve they oversee. And they've graciously offered to have canoes brought in just for the troop to use.
So the boy and I will do that Saturday morning.
Saturday afternoon, the family is going to some special showing of a Harry Potter movie, where they have an orchestra to play the score. While I enjoy the Harry Potter movies and books (and recent video game), this was my wife's idea.
I love when the project manager waits until the last minute mention we need to do demo drawings for the project.
For no particular reason, other than it's not Friday.
And that my TMJ has been acting up again. Very annoying. Bordering on downright unpleasant.
I think this time, however, I'll avoid going to my original TMJ specialist. My dentist's office treats it as well, and they're much closer to the house.
It's possible it could be time for a new mouthguard.
Which could be expensive.
Hey, though! We have another new Eagle Scout in our troop. He passed his Board of Review last night. I know, because I was on it.
It was fun. Other than the district representative, two of the chicks on our committee sat the board with me. They're both super cool.
When I got to the church where the BOR took place, I also got a notification the other Eagle Scout's credentials had come in.
So now I've got to get one Eagle's paperwork down to the SHAC office so he can get his credentials, while picking up the other Eagle's credentials. Luckily, another adult in our troop works at the SHAC office, so I might be able to get him to do it.
Also, it's my nephew's birthday today. I believe he's turning 18.
I don't want to be in the office today.
For all of maybe an hour or two, most likely.
Perhaps something bad will happen. I have at least learned to always expect it.
What I truly mean, however, is that I shall get no rest whatsoever this weekend, will be busier than usual, and will have to do some of my regular things out of sequence.
First, it's a full day of work. Then my current plan is to leave work and go to the comic book store. After that, I'll go home for a bit of dinner. Then I'll go off to the grocery store.
On Saturday, I'll get up early to go to the cleaners. After that, the boy and I have to be at a scouting event from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Then we go home, grab a bit of lunch, and clean ourselves up.
By 2:30 Saturday afternoon, the family will be downtown at Jones Hall for this Harry Potter thing my wife got tickets for way back. That'll last a few hours.
Then it's back home for dinner.
And Sunday is, of course, Mother's Day.
And that's probably when I'll have to catch up on stuff like laundry, and other household chores.
All because the stoopid rain we had meant the scout camping trip got cancelled and they changed to the current Saturday plans. And being the kind adult leader and father I am, I offered to attend so they would have enough adult leaders on hand.
At least I'm not expecting too bad a day here at work. Mostly just some tedious crap.
Which, come to think of it, describes about 90% of my engineering career.
Work was fairly uneventful yesterday.
After work I went straight to the comic book store. Had to fight a bit of traffic, but it was worth it. They were having a big back issue sail. I managed to pick up 28 back issues. Woot!
Then I came home to eat dinner.
After dinner I sat for a bit, then the boy and I went to the grocery store. I figured since (a) we were going to be busy later this morning (during our normal grocery store time), and (b) today is going to be a lot of people prepping for Mother's Day, it might be best to get it out of the way on Friday.
At the grocery store, we saw one of my co-workers. He's not one that I particularly like, but he's not a total douche nugget. I knew he lived nearby, and I seem to recall him saying he shopped at that HEB, but I never expected to see him.
So now I'll have to crack some jokes at work on Monday about stalking him.
Anyway, I finally got to sit and relax a little after 8 pm last night.
Then while the wife and I were watching Black Sails, my daughter came downstairs to tell us about being attacked by a mosquito. That led to a 20 minute ordeal where I moved her into the guest room so the skeeter couldn't find her.
I heard that HBO Max and Disney Plus might be merging. So I guess I won't be watching HBO Max anymore. Not sure why HBO would do that to itself. MAX was, from what I heard, actually somewhat profitable.
I'm slowly learning my new wireless earbuds don't fit properly. At least not the left one. My left ear is a little weird though, going all the way back to surgery I had on both ears a VERY long time ago.
Probably longer ago than some people on these message boards have been alive.
Anyway, the left ear bud threatens to fall out all the time. The right one can sometimes work itself out as well. Usually when I'm eating.
Been a long day, but a fun one.
Then while eating dinner, I lost a crown. Surprised the hell out of me. So much so that I swallowed the damn thing.
Anyway, I called my dentist and he said as long as it’s not hurting, and I remember to chew on the other side, we can wait until Monday and they should be able to fit me in.
Weird thing is, there was no warning on the tooth. It wasn’t bothering me. It hadn’t been loose. Just….popped off.
I dropped my phone again this morning. Since then, it's been even wonkier and uncontrollable than usual. So it looks like it's finally time for a new phone.
I decided to watch Rise of the Planet of the Apes last night, and discovered my blu ray of the film is going bad. Luckily, the boy and I were able to finish watching it on DVD.
So that's another new something I need to buy.
However, that might be a blessing in disguise, as it will probably encourage me to finally get the original five movies on hardcopy.
And there's another wasp nest being built in my grill. I must find a way to safely remove it.
I do, of course, have a plan.
It just might not be a very good plan.
Before I forget....
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to any mothers on these message boards!
And HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to she who hasn't smothered me with a pillow...yet. My beautiful wife!
Yes, I'm sure there are some around here who are upset she hasn't.
